Three construction workers on Monday rescued a baby trapped beneath a 20- to 30-foot tree branch on the city's South Side.
"We heard a crack, and it fell down on top of the people," said William Pladis of King Koncrete. "We ran right across the street."
The construction workers, who were working nearby on new condominiums, removed the branch within seconds, Pladis said.
Rihanna Washington, 9 months old, was in fair condition Monday afternoon at the University of Chicago Comer Children's Hospital, said spokeswoman Theresa Carson.

Lucky they were construction workers and not Kerry & Edwards standing there. Kerry would be afraid to break a fingernail picking up the branch, and Edwards would let the kid die so he could sue somebody over it.
