RALEIGH, N.C. — North Carolina would enter a compact that could eliminate the power of the Electoral College system to choose a president in a bill that passed the Senate on Monday night.

If agreed to by enough states representing a majority of the nation's 538 electoral votes, the measure would require North Carolina to give its electoral votes to whichever candidate wins the popular vote nationwide.....

Exactly right.

Thanks for pinging other interested people.

They might be interested in this further information on John Koza who is co founder of the group pushing this "movement" - as in "Move On. Org" led movement - NOT a movement of the people, by the people, and for the people.

This "VICTORY CAMPAIGN 2004" to which Mr. Koza donated $5000 in 2004 - has this information posted about it:

Chief fund-raising entity for the Shadow Party

Founded by George Soros and Harold Ickes

Executive Director is New Left activist and Clinton aide, Harold Ickes

Other key players: Janice Ann Enright, George Soros

Yes it is indeed and the people pushing this KNOW it is unconstitutional.

More from this source listed in post 21: "Run jointly by America Coming Together and The Media Fund, JVC (Joint Victory Committe) collectsed contributions for these two groups.

In 2004 alone, JVC channeled $21.8 million to The Media Fund and $13.2 million to American Coming Together.

Since it was little more than a money conduit, JVC attracted less press attention than other organizations it funded. However, JVC did surface briefly in a February 5, 2004 Washington Post editorial questioning the shadowy nature of its financial transactons. (even the Washington POST questioned the "shadowy nature" of the funding of this "Joint Victory Fund".

"The editorial noted that a mysterious 527 committee calling itself the Sustainable World Corporation had suddenly sprung into existence in Houston, Texas on December 10, 2003. Seven days later, it donated $3.1 million to Joint Victory Campaign 2004, which then divided the money between ACT and The Media Fund.

The Washington Post attempted to discover the source of the $3.1 million donation. Said the editorial: "Sustainable World Corp. lists only a post office box in Houston as its address. Directory assistance has no number for it. Searches of ordinary business databases come up empty.

We tracked down Lewis Linn, the Houston accountant who is listed as its registered agent, and asked him about Sustainable World; he said he was bound by professional constraints to keep information about it confidential.

Asked if he would check to see whether those behind Sustainable World would let him reveal their identity, Mr. Linn called back to say, 'I've talked to my clients, and they wish to remain private.'" (I BET THEY DID)

"Janice Ann Enright was the Treasurer of Joint Victory Campaign 2004. She is a long-time aide to Harold Ickes. Enright, who is not an attorney, joined Harold Ickes' firm Meyer, Suozzi, English & Klein at the same time Ickes himself returned to the firm in June 1998 (after he had served a 1994-97 stint as Assistant to President Bill Clinton and as Deputy White House Chief of Staff for Political Affairs and Policy). Today Enright works for Ickes in the firm's Washington office, where she is Senior Advisor for Government Affairs.

Ickes and Enright advised Hillary Clinton during her successful New York Senate campaign in 1999 and 2000 - a victory widely attributed to Ickes' ruthless style of backroom politics.

Among the chief individual donors to JVC were Dan Lewis, Jonathan D. Lewis, S. Daniel Abraham, Peter B. Lewis, Richard Rosenthal, Herb Sandler, Marion Sandler, George Soros, Stewart A. Resnick, Lewis B. Cullman, Frank Brunckhorst, Louise Gund, Susie Buell, Stephen Bing, Agnes Varis, Anne Getty Earhart, Marcy Carsey, Nancy Burnett, Linda Pritzker, and Susan P. Orr. "

One more bit of information about John Koza, co-sponsor of the group pushing the "movement" to overturn the electoral college - state by state - North Carolina's State Senate being the latest to capitulate to the desires of these people: Hillary Clinton / Harold Ickes / George Soros.

From: PublicIntegrity.org - http://www.publicintegrity.org/527/search.aspx?act=main&type=ind&donrec=don&name=Koza

John Koza Los Altos, CA Third Millenium Vc
$5,000 Pre-gengengen New Democrat Network - Non-Federal

John Koza Los Altos, CA Third Millenium $5,000 M07 Sierra Club Voter Education Fund

John Koza Los Altos, CA Third Millenium Venture Capital $5,000 Q3 New Democrat Network - Non-Federal

John Koza Los Altos, CA Genetic Programming Inc. $20,000 POST America Coming Together - Nonfederal Account

John Koza Los Altos, CA Genetic Programming Inc. $4,000 POST America Coming Together - Nonfederal Account

John R. Koza Los Altos, CA President $1,000 Q2 MoveOn.org Voter Fund

My comments: Mr. Koza, was (is?) a steady large contributor to America Coming Together and MoveOn.org - and is the CO-FOUNDER OF NATIONAL POPULAR VOTE.COM - organization pushing the removal of the electoral college system of voting for President - by getting around the requirement for a constitutioinal amendment to make such a fundamental change in our Nation's election process.

Has the John Locke foundation weighed in on all of this stuff?

NC is rapidly becomming a liberal bastion at the state level, the Hosue and Senate are run as personal Fiefdoms of the Gov and Dan Blue.

When decker rooled over for that 50,000 he literally handed the state to the Dhims for the decade.

I wish you well up there, as I still have blood kin, inlaws, friends, and many acquaintances of whom I am very fond, that still live there.

In the coming “troubles”, you will likely meet at least one of them.
As good and as descent a people they all are, individually, I wouldn’t trust them as a group to watch my, or anyone else's, back.

What’s happened to NC politics? Are too many Yankee lefties moving there, and is this effort to subvert the Electoral College unconstitutional? With only one state, Maryland IIRC, having passed it, it doesn’t seem likely to effect 2008, IMHO.

Are people finally waking up

That is the question.

I don't think so. I've been awake. It is simply difficult to break the power of the Criminal Democratic Power Machine that is constantly pressing in as you say to take away more and more of our money, our livelihood, and our freedom. And, the end game is, of course, to take away our country as we have known it. They are very close to success but the battle still rages on in parts of the country.

We who love freedom must never stop fighting.

Please pass the word to any who are concerned about Soros, Ickes, and their connection to the "movement" to eliminate the electoral college - state by state.

One way to fight is to publicize the facts to as many sources as possible including media sources.

Perhaps Mark Levin would be interested in talking about this on his radio program which has just recently started broadcasting into the Raleigh-Durham area???

More later tonight.

The only possibility is that states cannot enter into contracts or compacts with other states without consent of Congress. This Congress, however, would probably approve, but I don’t know if the Presidents approval would be neededas well.

Democrats took over here in Iowa, too and they introduced this exact same legislation. I don’t know what has happened to it.

The NC Senate just voted to completely ignore the vote and will of its own people... the people of NC should be storming the Senate chambers and dragging the people who voted for this through the streets.

So all the blue states and a few red states pass the law until 25 states do so. As long as the red states don’t pass the law, this is good for Republican candidates because their states are safe and they can, for example, swing New York by winning votes from Texas, but Dems cannot swing Texas by winning votes form New York.
