Clinton aide forfeits law license in Justice probe

By Jerry Seper THE WASHINGTON TIMES May 17, 2007

Samuel R. Berger, the Clinton White House national security adviser who was caught taking highly classified documents from the National Archives, has agreed to forfeit his license to practice law.

In a written statement issued by Larry Breuer, Mr. Berger's attorney, the former national security adviser said he pleaded guilty in the Justice Department investigation, accepted the penalties sought by the department and recognized that his law license would be affected.

"I have decided to voluntarily relinquish my license," he said. "While I derived great satisfaction from years of practicing law, I have not done so for 15 years and do not envision returning to the profession. I am very sorry for what I did, and I deeply apologize."

In giving up his license, Mr. Berger avoids being cross-examined by the Board on Bar Counsel, where he risked further disclosure of specific details of his theft. The agreement is expected to be formalized today.

Mr. Berger, national security adviser from 1997 to 2001, was convicted of removing documents from the Archives in 2005 while preparing to testify before the September 11 commission.

Fined $50,000, sentenced to 100 hours of community service and barred from access to classified material for three years, he also was ordered to undergo a polygraph test if asked -- although the Justice Department has declined to administer the test despite urging by Rep. Thomas M. Davis III of Virginia, ranking Republican on the House Committee on Oversight and Governmental Reform.

Was this also of Bill Clinton before independent counsel? Hmmm...

Huh. Look for the corrupt-to-the-core Bush Justice Department to step in and plead Sandy’s case to the bar while asking that Sandy be spared the need to testify.

Aren’t criminals who accept plea bargains obligated to tell why they did the crimes? Nothing this moron knows could possibly hurt George Bush. If it could, Berger would have said it years ago.

Like he’s gonna starve to death or end up on the streets without it.

This whole story stinks and is one of the biggest reasons for my discontent with the Bush administration. Why in the name of Ned wasn’t he hammered?

Opps, yeah... those 500 FBI files the Clintons stole.

This stinks to high heaven. Berger and Clinton are traitors and should be held responsible for 9-11, especially in light of these charges.

The American people should be demanding justice and a thorough investigation, no matter what democrats it exposes.

I'm pretty pissed off right now.

he said the department was "unacceptably incurious" about Mr. Berger's visits to the Archives in May 2002 and July 2003 and never told the September 11 commission he removed original, uninventoried documents.

Now there's a statement that I can get behind.

If it was a Republican it would be headline news 24/7 and they would be calling for the death penalty. They HAVE to have something on the administration , why else would they let him slide so so easily?

Oh, give me a break! Such a sacrifice. That’s like throwing away your ‘favorite’ pair of pants that you haven’t worn in 15 years because they no longer fit.

This sucks so hard, I can’t stand it.

Did he ask Berger , ok what did you learn during your review of the papers Sandy ? did Berger call clinton after his visit to the archives ? What does the former Liar in Chief think of his former SECURITY adviser or should we say Chief cover up artist

Some believe that Sandy also introduced files to make Bubba look better.

And let's think this through a bit further: is the any doubt that Berger wouldn't have been on the horn with Bubba once he'd made off with the documents and had them safely at home?

And even more: (Clinton Operative to DoJ executive) "Look, if you can keep Sandy off of that poly, there won't be any need for us to talk about your [teenage pot bust, wife's two abortions, daughter's shoplifting charge, son's homosexuality]. OK? Sound fair?"

Gorelick ( and the 9/11 Commission Report Dietrich L. Snell was a Senior Counsel & Team Leader ) were put in charge of disseminate what information got seen by the full Commission.

So the woman who created the Wall which blocked the flow of information, was again put in charge of blocking information to the Commission which was charged with finding out why information got blocked.
