I have written a book about that time period. The title is Inside the Danger Zone and it was published this month by Naval Institute Press. After Stark, the situation evolved into a naval quasi-war with Iran.

Weren’t the French & the US on the same side during that war????IIRC,Reagan accepted the Iraqi apology ordered the USN to take out Iran’s navy.Making Saddam’s life far more easy.
