I think this is in the book of proverbs, but not sure, however, it goes something likes this, “ Beware of dainty flattereries of a king while eating at his table “

As Reagan would say " Trust, but verify " .... being MR. Nice Guy does not get it in Washington and Bipartisan politics...... and I still would not trust the Democrats.
Just like Fred did with Micky mouse Moore, showed him the door when he deserved it, and if the Dems are willing to co-operate, then, they have to show that they are willing to be someone to be able to work with.... and until then, here's the door, don't let it hit you on the way out.

May be used in the vernacular of the southern way of life. For those weaker sorts flattery could entrap them.

The biggest plus is that Fred has worked with these same folks and knows how they operate.

So hes going to set a new tone in Washington? Where have I heard that before? It appears Sen. Thompson has not sufficiently reflected on the lessons of the GW Bush administration.

I remember a movie that came out a few years ago( either in the late 90s or 2000+ ) with a major actor in it, it was a battle in Vietnam.
Near the end of the movie the North Vietnamese General said something to this effect :
" One way to see how great your honor is" or " the measure of your honor is the courage of your enemy "
that North Vietnamese general was impressed and amazed at the US troops and leaders courage who he fight in that battle..... ( I wish I knew the name of that movie and actor. ).
A woman will not respect her man if he is weak, shows no backbone, or does not have his own opinion..... likewise, your opponent, or enemy will not respect you if they see any kind of weakness in you.. even if your enemy hates you, if they see how courageous you are, they will have respect for you.
Being MR. Nice Guy in Washington, your opponents will walk all over you.

Yeah, he is. I wonder if he's a FReeper, too? Prolly is. He would be smart to "come out" here on FReerepublic. We have more discussion here than on either of PJM or Redstate. Not to mention, PJM has a netrank of 27827, Redstate 32595, and FR 905. FReerepublic, clearly, is the 800 lb gorilla of the Conservative online presence. Are ya' listenin' FRed??? I'll even go out on a limb and suggest that FReepers were first to sound the call for a FRedhead Presidency. This year. With all due respect, papasmurf, as someone who is very interested in Fred Thompson as a potential candidate, I hope that he would not choose to be a FReeper and would not choose to have his name connected in any way with Free Republic. Also, in my opinion, he would not "be smart to come out here on FR". If Mr. Thompson, and/or his aides, have been reading online forums he is already well aware of what has gone on here in the past few months. FR may be an 800 pound gorilla, but that gorilla's reputation has taken a serious hit yet again, and sadly, it was self-inflicted.
Mr. Thompson appears to be a man who is willing to debate the issues with intelligence, honesty, and integrity. I cannot picture this fine man resorting to name-calling, personal attacks, and threats if folks don't agree with him, so it would seem highly unlikely that he would choose to closely associate himself with those who do.
I would also like to believe that he would not approve of nor associate with those who would choose to blatantly lie and show an utter lack of integrity even if those persons believe they're doing it for a good cause.
There are many ways people can support Fred Thompson when he announces his candidacy without inviting him to an internet site that could harm his reputation and his candidacy.
"If a ruler honors liars, all his advisers will be wicked." - Proverbs 29:12
"Cursed be he that doeth the work of the LORD deceitfully
" - Jeremiah 48:10

If you have such a low opinion of FR, why do you continue to associate yourself with it?

Well, now that most of the lying and deceiving Rudybots got cleared out of here, things have calmed down and we can back to the business of supporting conservatives. We don't have to deal with their lies and distortions anymore.
