I’m still waiting for Fred Thompson to officially announce his run for the ‘08 Presidency and then also become a regular visitor to Free Republic.com. There are plenty of people here who are more than willing to offer him free advise on just about any issue out there.

I agree, he’s got a good sense of deprecating humor. It’s Reaganesque, but certainly his own. And he has that real Southrin draaawl that Shrillary tries to mimic.

What has bi-partisanship gotten us?

How about the expanded Bureaucracy at Education, signed w/ the swimmer. Has that stopped the dems from slamming it as not enough money? No.

How about the bi-partisanship that approved the war? The dims want to abandon our troops and try W for war crimes.

And look what beautiful fruit bi-partisanship has produced on immigration!

Death by bi-partisanship!

The dems are sitting around anxiously awaiting the first hurricane of the season as an excuse to pull out of Iraq. Before the last raindrop falls a news release will be issued condemning the incompetancy of W.

You want to get along w/ these people, Fred?

I guess it’s the nature of a NY closet RINO to stick their nose in where it doesn’t belong...

>>Fred needs to understand that its the quixotic quest for “bi-partisanship” that has served W so disasterously.

Asking for it, is probably smart politically.

Knuckling under, and not having any backbone when treated poorly when offering it, and not exacting any retribution, is the real problem with W’s approach.

I’m thinking the Dems would have seen some smackdowns like the one Fred delivered to Michael Moore. That sort of thing has been conspicuously absent, from the Bush approach.

I don’t know where you live, but I have a Bush/Cheney sticker on my car (Cheney I love, the Bush part I don’t any longer) and if someone slashed my tires they’d get to know the end of my gun.

To add to that, I’d say that there is nothing wrong in asking for bi-partisanship, as a means of winning that popularity and postive public opinion, in order to push your agenda through. It’s when you give up lots, in return for nothing, that bi-partisanship becomes a problem, and that’s where we’ve been with Bush.

I think that anyone who wants to win must say the “Bi” word.

But his actions speak louder than his words.

So he’s going to set a new tone in Washington? Where have I heard that before?

I don't know where you read that in his blog, either.

I have to agree with you. While Bush and the Repubs have tried to foster a spirit of 'bi-partisanship' the Dems have been busy trash-mouthing them and refusing to compromise.

Nevertheless, I like Fred or Duncan Hunter. They, at least, don't seem to hold the same political positions as the Dems.

He also does radio commentaries the way Reagan did prior to his 1980 campaign.

He’s following the Reagan playbook; boning up on his communication skills.

Wise choice.

I'm sorta partial to Fred also, but I can't buy this mamby-pamby "can't we all just get along" bullcrap.

Remember Fred, the road to hell is paved w/ good intentions.

The Compromise of 1850 led to bloody Kansas and ultimately to the greatest bloodletting in our history. Sometimes, when there are principles at stake, the right action is to utterly reject the opposition's position.

Never has that been more clear than these days.

I work at a University. All the tree-hugging, earth first, end-the-war types who litter the campus, greedily accept federal funding, and don’t bathe would let me know how far they comprehend the American two party system.

I can’t wait till they get out and start earning a living. Maybe they will see things in a different perspective when they look at their first for-real paycheck and see how much is taken out in taxes.
