Don't Be Fooled (on this immigration bill) by Heather MacDonald

Don't Be Fooled [Heather Mac Donald]

Republican supporters of the Senate’s latest amnesty bill are trying to distract voters by dangling before them the requirements for an illegal alien to become a citizen or purchase a green card. These requirements make this bill a tough, no-cave-in reform, proponents say, that responds to the public’s outrage over immigration law-breaking. Don’t be fooled. Prerequisites to citizenship or permanent residency status are irrelevant to whether this bill rewards law-breaking or will encourage more in the future. Its key feature is rather that illegal aliens, according to press reports, can immediately have their illegal status wiped away with a temporary-residency permit, available virtually upon demand. That’s it. The rest is noise. Whether or not one has to show English proficiency and a knowledge of civics to become a citizen is irrelevant from an illegal alien’s perspective; a minute proportion of illegal or even legal Mexican and Central American immigrants come here with the desire to become citizens. The naturalization rate among qualified Hispanics has traditionally been negligible compared to other national groups; it started rising only when Congress required citizenship to receive welfare benefits.

There is no ambiguity about the effects of amnesty. Everywhere they have been introduced—including in Europe—they have brought in their train a new flood of illegals. This latest bill will do the same.

Thanks for that, as I’m unable to link the other group for some reason!

This bill, if enacted into law, would also stop those pesky towns and states that have been passing ordinances cutting off services or requiring legal status verification of applicants before landlords can sign rental agreements. This completely Federalizes the issue and stops any attempt at states' rights or local control.

I agree with you 100%. The only alternative we have is to fax, call and continue to inundate our representatives with a flat NO, we don’t buy this amnesty bill. Otherwise we all will be paying big consequences. My grandparents immigrated here legally and I am insulted by this gutless act being exercised. Damn, enforce the laws, don’t capitulate as is usually done by our masterful politicians to foster their own little power and political bubble. Anyone who votes for this who is on a ballot I get to vote on will be neglected by me! They are useless pawns, IMHO!

How many high school dropouts are there among the illegals?

Would they be an asset or a liability to the US economy in the next 10 or 15 years..?

I firmly believe all this has to do with the North American Alliance. There are those in the government that are really pushing for open borders between Canada, Mexico and the U.S. Much like the EU. They are going to change our whole way of living. They can do this with Canada because the economys and standard of living is about the same. Mexico is in the tank and has always been that way. To have the North American Alliance, they need to raise the standard of living in Mexico to resemble ours. This means getting rid of the seven families that run Mexico and raise their economic standards. This will cost us plenty but they don’t care. It’s a plan that has been in the works for many years.

Illegal Mexicans are the only group of immigrants in US history to remain utterly balkanized even after being here for years. Mexicans fail at a successful civilization. Ever wonder why millions of them invade the United States in search of a better life? Have you noticed that once they arrive, they create the same kind of ‘society’ in the United States? Unconsciously, they recreate the same condition that they left behind. In the barrios that have sprung up nationwide, the squalor of Mexico is rampant: drugs, violent crime, gangs, illiteracy... and perhaps even more sinister is the adherence to Marxist/socialist ideals.

Mexico’s civilization stands diametrically opposed to America’s culture. Offering amnesty to the most degenerate group of criminals on Earth will do nothing... except bring more of them here.

>>The Senate voted to make our country a weaker, more dangerous place. The Senate voted to take from those who obey the laws, and to give a reward to those who break them.

The senators who voted for this legislation voted anti-American. Period.<<

Er, the Senate has not voted yet.

Here's a question to the general Freeper audience: In 1965 Ted Kennedy authored and led immigration reform legislation that started us on the sliipery slope we now find ourselves in. Back then Kennedy assured Americans that his changes would not alter the basic demographics or make up of our country. He either lied (most likely), or miscalculated.

Question: what would any self-respecting conservative even talk to Ted Kennedy on immigration, let alone wish him good morning?

The Senate “vote” is a mere formality, as yesterday’s recorded for/against tally shows.

If Ted Kennedy if for it, I’m against it. You can’t go wrong with this litmus test.

He was the ONLY INS agent assigned to workplace enforcement, in other words, employer enforcement, in those three states. I have no reason to believe it is any different now.

Except now he's on coffee break 24/7 with an immigration raid every 4 or 5 months strictly for public relations.

Actually, he retired in disgust shortly after that conversation, and I can’t say I blame him.

If John McCain is for it, I am against it.

My email to him this morning

“Thank you for clarifying my choices in the upcoming GOP primary by so
strongly advocating amnesty for the twelve million lawbreakers currently
residing in the US.

I will first vote against you in California - my home state - just for the
pleasure of seeing you lose, then I will gladly abstain from voting at all in
the general election as the useless, sellout GOP doesn’t deserve any support on
any level from a conservative of conscience.

You, Sir can go to hell.

DU has a REALLY interesting thread going on this. They are of two minds on it. Strangely, some of them agree with us.

Yes, but for generally different reasons. They don't give a ding dong damn about border security, but they do care about propping up union wages. They also want every CEO in America who headed a corporation that had some illegal slip a phony ID past their HR department locked up. I agree that many corporations have deliberately looked the other way while knowingly hiring illegals, but the majority of US businesses care about doing this job correctly, and not being sued by LaRaza for discrimination.

I don't think the whole Senate has voted on this yet. This was produced by a "bi-partisan" group of Senators and someone said there isn't actually a bill yet.

Honest question, part two: Does anyone really expect an illegal to fork over $5,000 in cash just to get a Z Visa?

With identity theft, most of them already are receiving Social Security and/or Unemployment and/or Welfare payments, so the American taxpayer will pay the $5K one way or another. The honest ones will no doubt cry poverty and their debt will probably be forgiven.

Why would you want to become a citizen? Fly under the radar -- free education, free welfare, no jury duty, no military service, nationwide "in-state" tuition, minority set-asides and affirmative action. Anonymity makes taxes optional, and in any event taxes are far exceeded by benefits.
