Wonder what they will consider “reasonable” expense?

I think I’m going to start looking at each food item I purchase for descriptions like this. If they don’t have it, I’ll pass.

I read the food labels and pass on anything that has 'made in China' on the label. The problem in that an item made in the United States or Canada could contain a contaminated Chinese ingredient. Still...I can eliminate part of the problem by buying food produces made in the USA...and by growing my own produce and/or getting it at Farmer's Markets. You do what you can...

I can’t believe how many people think their pets are human.

They are ANIMALS.

It is so sad their pet died — thank God they were just ANIMALS.

Money greedy people.

They should be attacking the U.S. (and Canadian) policies that allow importation of cheap dangerous goods from China, not the other victims.

I am sometimes amazed at how attached folks can to animals.

“My little baby, my sweet Barkley, died from eating that nasty food. The funeral alone cost me $5Gs and the vet bills were backbreaking.

Those nasty, nasty, evil men killed my baby and they are going pay, you can be sure of that!”

Some days I wonder where our civilization is headed.

I foresee that Menu Foods will be forced to back down on some of the documentation.

First of all, in the initial panic the natural request from Menu was to return ALL products back to the store or throw them out. In fact, this wasn't a request, it was an order. To now expect people to have copies of the labels is ridiculous, and cannot stand as a requirement.

However, vet bills between known outbreak dates that are consistent with renal failure or other expected injuries should be sufficient documentation.

I think they’re allocating about $10.00 per pet, with $9.76 earmarked for the lawyers.

The remaining $0.24 for each pet will be paid in two coupons, when you buy two adult and two pet meals at Sizzler. Limited time only. Check your local Sizzler to verify participation. One coupon per household. Not good in Hawaii, Alaska, or any state containing the letters M or I. Please have your claim notarized and send registered certified mail, postmarked no later than tomorrow. (Certain restrictions apply.)

I am so sorry for your loss. I know money won’t bring Barkley back to you, but I certainly wish you success in collecting anything possible; hurting their bottom line is the only thing they understand.

In addition, pet owners must fill out a lengthy questionnaire that asks for such information as the UPC codes on the recalled foods, dates the products were manufactured, dates when their pets ate the food, number of cans or pouches their pets ate, and whether their pets had any pre-existing conditions.

So in other words, provide the impossible. Blackbird.

My apologies AC

I don’t have pets. I have owned working animals, even ran sheep and cattle back in the day.

But no pets.

I had though my (/S) tag would show it was a statement about people who confuse animals with human beings. Pookie is my *baby* sort of thing.

I will note that I do see a lot of people, esp oldsters who have become quite attached to thier pets. The loss of a pet can be a big deal to them.

I guess I just lack that gene or whatever you need for being a pet person.

WEll, then I would be one of the people you mock... I think very highly of my three dogs and if one had died from this poison food I would be very angry. I am upset about what we are all learning from this and the fact the media is choosing to mostly ignore the fact we have tainted food coming in from China.

Well - since I am mocking people who cannot differentiate between a human being and an animal...

Do you refer to your pets as “baby”?

Do you tell others that your pets are “your children”?

Do you spend more on your pet than you do yourself....?

Do you believe that your animal is worth as much or more a human being? (test - demand a human firefighter enter a burning building to save little Pookie)

IF you answered yes to all these questions - then consider yourself mocked. Again - if people cannot discern the difference between an animal and a human being, where *is* our civilization headed?

IF not, then, by all means, be angry that the pet food mfg you buy from was negligent in not testing their imported products. And thank the Lord you do not buy any food supplements from the same folks.....

You’ll have to look very hard. My last three trips to the grocery store I could not find any apple juice boxes that did not come from China. I ended up having to buy Martinelli’s juice bottles from the local big box store at 3x the price of what I was previously buying.
:P

Did you ever look at this as being a trial run before they hit us humans?

Have some sensitivity to us “pet” people!

I’ve posted this elsewhere but wanted to make sure you know about IAMS.

My dog was an extremely healthy Australian Shepherd named Tucker. At the end of April she got extremely sick, and was diagnosed with acute renal failure. Within 3 weeks of diagnosis, including 1 week at the UGA college of Veterinary Medicine ICU, we had to put her down on May 25th.
I have another dog, that lived with her in the same environment, same treats, etc. The only difference is that we fed Tucker IAMS WEIGHT CONTROL dry food (the blue bag) vs. the mini nuggets the other one eats.

IAMS keeps insisting that there is nothing wrong with the dry food, but asked for a sample to analyze(we do not have the original bag because we put the food in containers so the ants don’t invade the food). We are also having an autopsy done on her kidneys. Does anyone know of a place to find an independent lab to analyze the food?

Everything is pointing to IAMS!

Our dog gets regular Iams, not weight control.
