FBI: agent was investigating vehicle when confronted by student (more info on UC Irvine incident)

An FBI agent confronted by a Muslim student at the University of California, Irvine, earlier this month was trying to get a closer look at a "suspicious" truck at the time, federal authorities said Sunday.

The agent had followed the truck to the campus from a separate location as part of an investigation that was unrelated to the school or student activities, bureau spokeswoman Laura Eimiller said.

"The investigation the agents were engaged in had nothing to do with the UCI campus or student activities there," she said.

The FBI's response comes after a Muslim student said an agent bumped him with his car near the site of an anti-Israel protest on May 14.

Yasser Ahmed, 21, said he noticed he was being followed by a car with blackened windows as he drove a 24-foot moving van on campus to pick up an exhibit, sponsored by the Muslim Student Union, that protested Israel policies in Palestine.

After he got out of the truck and asked the driver to identify himself, he claimed the driver then revved the engine and began pushing Ahmed back with the front bumper before driving off.

The university's police department on Sunday referred inquiries to the school's public relations department. A message left Sunday with a university spokeswoman was not immediately returned.

The FBI said the incident occurrent on a dead-end street after a group of people surrounded the car of one agent.

"The agent blew his siren and used the cars PA system to warn" the group, the bureau said in a statement. "At that point, it was clear that this was a law enforcement vehicle. At least one person threw or placed a cinder block under the law enforcement vehicle."

Investigators had fist observed the truck away from the campus and decided to follow it because its sign was painted over and there were no visible license plates, Eimiller said. She did not elaborate about the investigation.

Hmm, cop trying to run down concerned citizens with his vehicle.

They were, of course, unarmed ~

The Moslem student(s) involved in this event wouldn't understand. They're usually from countries where the cops beat the heck out of you when you go to report a crime to them.

That's to check your sincerity!

No frivolous calls on the cops there.

Something on the California Orange County Edition of the Los Angeles Times Saturday .

Mentions a May 2006 comment by an FBI agent to a business group in Newport Beach that the agency was monitoring Muslims at UCI and USC.

"The FBI's response comes after a Muslim student said an agent bumped him with his car near the site of an anti-Israel protest on May 14."

An anti-Israeli protest on American soil, and by moslims no less. Isn't America overdue to have one astoundingly large, coast-to-coast protest against islamofacism and islamic terrorism? Why not? It would help people to sort their feelings out about muslims, and could perhaps bring a deeper understanding to the moslems about how we percieve them. T'would be educational and fun for everyone. We are overdue for such a protest march against islamofacism, which is currently the greatest danger against mankind on earth; and the world needs to see how they slaughter poor Christians all over our world, how they debase and enslave their female population, how they hate Jews with a murderous vengeance. These are the kinds of evils in the world that need to be marched against. Why would something like this be so hard to pull togehter?

I must have missed in the article where it said they were citizens

Unless you count throwing cinderblocks as being, of course, unarmed.
