Common Sense 'ENFORCE ACT' introduced By Sen. Inhofe
Inhofe website ^ | May 2, 2007 | Sen. James Inhofe

Posted on 05/21/2007 3:27:02 PM PDT by AuntB

WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Senator Jim Inhofe (R-Okla.) today once again introduced his immigration legislation aimed at addressing the ever-increasing influx of illegal immigrants to the United States and its strain on society. Inhofe’s ENFORCE - Engaging the Nation to Fight for Our Right to Control Entry -Act (S.1269) increases U.S. border security, emphasizes greater enforcement of existing immigration laws and prevents amnesty and other shortcuts for illegal immigrants.

“Illegal immigrants continue to cross our country’s borders, strain our economy and exploit our resources,” Inhofe said. “The gravity of this situation warrants that Americans of all political stripes come together to address this problem immediately. I will not stand idly by and watch our great nation collapse under the pressures of uncontrolled illegal immigration; this is a crisis and one that must be addressed aggressively.

“Simply granting citizenship to immigrants, who are currently in our country illegally, is not the answer. We must enhance our border security, hold those accountable who encourage illegal immigration and ensure that those who violate our laws by entering our country illegally do not have this illegal activity easily forgiven and even rewarded with permanent residence or citizenship. Our nation’s future rests on Congress’ actions of today, and the ENFORCE Act is a strong step in the right direction to help solve our growing problem of illegal immigration.”

Major Provisions in Inhofe’s ENFORCE Act:

· Establishes the National Border Neighborhood Watch (NBNW) Program allowing retired law enforcement officers to assist Border Patrol agents by reporting illegal border crossings. · Makes unlawful-presence in the United States a felony. · Establishes an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) office in Tulsa, Oklahoma. · Authorizes funding for online immigration training for state and local law enforcement officers. · Eliminates the practice of granting automatic U.S. citizenship to children born to illegal immigrants in an effort to reduce ‘anchor babies.’ · Establishes an independent verification system for Social Security numbers; also mandates that immigrant’s Social Security numbers expire when visa runs out. · Establishes electronic birth & death registries to fight fraudulent Social Security cards · Helps reduce Individual Taxpayer Identification Number abuse. · Empowers state & local law enforcement to carryout immigration laws (but does not make it mandatory). · Establishes penalties for most flagrant employer tax violations—i.e. if an employer willfully files incorrect tax returns, they will be assessed the maximum penalties available. · Makes it illegal to operate day laborer centers for illegal aliens and to give them unemployment assistance. · Eliminates in-state tuition benefits for illegal aliens.

"THIS is ‘comprehensive reform’!"

It certainly is, and I will support it.

Thanks, Czar, look it over, see if you see any ‘bugs’ in it. Mention the bill to your senators when you talk to them and perhaps the RNC.:<)

Don’t forget Alabama’s Senator Sessions. He’s my hero after what he said to Harry Reid yesterday.

Time to do to Bush what Congress did to Clinton when they forced him to sign welfare reform. Clinton never wanted to sign that but after a while he had to politically.

Senators and Congressmen will be there long after President Bush is relaxing at the ranch. Keep pressure on them and Bush will either sign or give the Republican nominee something great to run on.

On another note, a major issue in this debate is the way Bush, McCain and Graham tried to sneak, then bully this bill through by using standard liberal tactics against the base. It really was an eye opener. If those Republicans would have addressed our concerns instead of name calling who knows what might have happened.

I just caught a Cspn news conference with Kyl, Kennedy, Grahanm. Graham went on and on about this being ‘Bush’s’ bill, how they all met at the white house with cabinet officials for hours and days. He said they deserved all the ‘credit’.

PAY ATTENTION FOLKS!!!!

FOR THE 1000th TIME!!!!

THE 1996 IMMIGRATION REFORM ACT DID AWAY WITH ANCHOR BABIES!!!

YOU ARE CONFUSING BIRTH CITIZENSHIP WITH ANCHOR BABIES!!!!

The 1996 reform ELIMINATED anchor babies. EVEN THOUGH a child is born in the USA and has USA citizenship, CUSTODY FOLLOWS THE PARENTS not the child thus the CHILD goes with the deported parents and can return when 18.

The DREAM ACT seeks to make even NON citizen children become anchor babies. Last night Senator DURBIN vowed to make all children of illegal aliens into anchor babies via the DREAM ACT.

So in summary, ANCHOR BABIES and BIRTHRIGHT CITIZENSHIP are TWO DIFFERENT THINGS.

Quote from Border Patrol Agents Union today:

“Every day that President Bush and the Senate hold real border security hostage to their misguided amnesty program, thousands upon thousands of illegal aliens continue to flood into the country”, it said. “We are losing this war and it’s not even close”

There was this....and he looked directly toward Reid when he spoke......

I love my colleagues. I tease them a lot. I call the group of them that wrote this bill the masters of the universe. They all met in some secret room somewhere, and they started plotting, working, and trying to do the right thing. They met and met and worked and worked, and they decided that they were going to tell America what we needed. They were going to figure it all out, and just explain to us what the real facts were and how this thing ought to be handled.

But, they are a bunch of politicians--good people but still they are politicians. They didn't invite anybody from the Border Patrol into their meetings to give them advice as to what is actually working on the borders. They didn't invite interior agents from Immigration and Customs Enforcement to tell them how to fix the interior immigration problems. They did have, of course, direct and regular contact with big business. They had direct and regular contact with special advocacy groups, who had their list of demands. They were actively seeking out ways to gain the political support of this group and that group because that is what they think legislation is sometimes. But they forgot about the American people.

And this....

Let me just speak briefly about how we came to the final vote tonight. I think the majority leader, HARRY REID, maybe wanted to get rid of this bill from the start. He has now begun to say it is President Bush's bill , but it was the Senate's bill . He called it up without a committee hearing. It is Senator Reid's bill , if you want to know the truth. He brought it up under rule XIV. It didn't even go to committee. The majority leader has that power. He called it up directly to the floor.

Senator Jeff Sessions is definitely in the top five of patriotic Senators. Alabama must be a great state to elect him. Oklahoma has two sterling Senators

A bill is just not a bill without a little pork.

This is definitely pork, but it works real well with the new immigration law just signed on 5/8/2007 by Brad Henry, the Governor of OK. It is entitled the "Oklahoma Taxpayer and Citizen Protection Act of 2007". It is going to be very difficult to be an illegal alien, or to be a business that makes it a practice to hire illegal aliens, in the State of Oklahoma. I wish we would follow suit up here in Nebraska, but I guess I will wish in one hand and you-know-what in the other and see which one gets full first.
