“I was appalled to learn that I had given that impression.”

(Rest of the Story, My bad that this didnt print with the first part.)
The most damning fact that should have gotten Pollard executed is that he is an American
citizen that spied for a foreign government against us..... Treason pure and simple.
Everyone always portrays him as if he were an Israeli that spied for his government. If we execute everyone of those caught our own spies are subject to he same swift judgement.
Caspar Weinberger, Secertary of Defense at the time, thought Pollard should have been shot.

"Cats are four-footed animals with tails."
Correction: "I do not personally think that cats have four feet, and I certainly do not think that they have tails. My comments were misleading and misinformed."
Why do they bother? How dumb do they think we are? Don't bother -- I know the answer.

(Enoch Powell was right.)
The ambassador reiterated his view on Pollard and said, "I certainly do not personally believe that Mr. Pollard should have received capital punishment- I was appalled to learn that I had given that impression."
An odd statement. It is as if he had no idea what he said. Not that there was anything outrageous in what he said, but why act shocked that anyone understood what you said?
I agree with his first comment. It was an act of mercy to not execute a foreign spy.
All spies should be executed!
