VANITY POLL: Who would you vote for in the primary?
None ^ | 5/23/07 | Dangus Vanity

Posted on 05/22/2007 9:46:34 PM PDT by dangus

It's been a long time since there was an official FR poll on this subject, and I'd like to propose certain conditions:

1. Who would you vote for, given the current field?

A. Gilmore
B. Giuliani
C. Huckabee
D. Hunter
E. McCain
F. Paul
G. Romney
H. Tancredo
I. Fred Thompson
J. Tommy Thompson

2. Who would you vote for, knowing that Fred Thompson and Newt Gingrich would be candidates?
A. Gilmore
B. Gingrich
C. Giuliani
D. Huckabee
E. Hunter
F. McCain
G. Paul
H. Romney
I. Tancredo
J. Fred Thompson
K. Tommy Thompson

3. Suppose it's after New Hampshire, and most of the lesser known candidates have dropped out. Who would you vote for? (PLEASE answer this one.)
A. Giuliani
B. McCain
C. Romney
D. Fred Thompson

It is way too early to say who you would vote for. I think I would vote to Fred Thompson, but lets see. I can speak better of who I would not vote for:

1. McCain, McCain-Feingold is enough for me and Senators don’t win the general so I don’t take them seriously in the primary. Also he is too old to win.

2. Rudy, he is just too shakey on judges for me.

3. Paul, a part time Libertarian who really seems not to be very Libertarian to me.

I can consider the rest, but many are bit players. I am taking a wait and see attitude about:

A. Fred Thompson who I think will be the nominee.

B. Mitt Romney who seems to be a decent candidate so far.

Yes, he’s got it all, except name recognition. We’ve got to get his name out there!

He’s everything you’ve mentioned, plus pro-life. And I believe he was responsible for the fence that is there, near San Diego, and for legislation to build the new fence (of which only 2 miles have been built so far).

If Hunter doesn’t make it, then a toss-up between Romney and Thompson, if he does become a candidate, but I adopt a wait and see stance here, as Thompson hasn’t announced, and I want to hear more from him on issues.

I think Hunter will make a fine VICE PRESIDENTIAL candidate. The man has no name recognition because he hasn’t done anything significant, yet. Running a government is a far cry from running a congressional office; even Senators make lousy candidates. Give him eight years as VP, and I’ll probably vote for him. In the meanwhile, do you have a second choice?

Paul is outrageously libertarian, which is why he always gets into trouble. In any 434-1 vote, you know who the lone dissenter is. Even his shocking anti-war statements are consistent with traditional libertarianism, which has always opposed interventionalism.

Oh, by the way, I’m for

Romney
Thompson
Thompson

Hunter and Tancredo rock, but are unelectable and lack the experience. Although lately Hunter seems like he’d do a great job, given the opportunity to gain stature.

I would be able to handle Hunter as veep, just because it would put him in line for the top slot in a term or two. At least he would have some influence (hopefully) on policy, even if he was not the POTUS.

That said, Hunter is my preference thus far.

This is not meant as a flame, just a couple of observations I thought I would share.

In a 434-1 vote there may be two dissenters, Ron Paul, and the Constitution.

George Washington must have been a Libertarian, he opposed interventionalism.

I don’t take it as a flame. I was only describing Paul’s staunchly ideological positions, which, most of the time, are quite refreshing. I’m quite aware that he dissents usually because he believes the entire premise behind a bill is based on notions he considers unconstitutional. But, umm... do you mind voting?

Hunter lacks experience? Was that a Fred Thompson vote for you? A 2 term senator, actor, lawyer? See the point I am making? I would for now go Hunter, Hunter, and I guess Romney. So far, I only know what Fred has said, But I know what Hunter has done. Name recognition and style got us exactly what we have today; A congress trying to sneak one by us, and a President who is all too eager to sign on the dotted line. Who is paying lip service and who is in the trenches fighting this travesty? Romney is 2 fakey, changing my vote, #3 Write-in for Bo Derek.

Let me put it to you this way: A mere representative will never win the nomination, and will never win the presidency. Higher office is required. I’d be more comfortable with Fred if he had some executive experience, since even senators make for lousy candidates. But Fred also has been the attorney general of Tennessee and chief minority legal counsel in Watergate... in addition to the plain and simple fact that he has already shaped a public persona for himself and will likely have access to the campaign cash necessary to be a credible candidate.

I sincerely look forward to Hunter’s candidacy after having served as VP for eight years. :^D.

After you look at these sites, you won’t make your remarks again.
He has accomplished far more than that guy who was a mayor and the other guy who was a gov. of a small state for 3 1/2 years.

Though San Diego has 5 congressmen, it is the size of the state of Conn. with over 3 million people.
Also the largest concentration of military in the world.
