Too rich to relate? Presidential wanna-bes enjoy highlife as most Americans struggle

I read an article once that said U.S. Senators on average make about 12% more on the stock market that the average citizen, which got me wondering; Is there any US Senator out there who ISN`T a millionaire?

How is it possible that so many Senators can be multi-multi millionaires since the job of Senator only pays about $166k a year?

Also, has a U.S. Senator ever been busted for insider trading? Very curious since Senators are civil servants who work for and are paid for by the people, no different from your average cop, fireman, sanitation worker, government employee, oh but that`s right...Senators for some reason have this mysterious uncanny ability to make millions more than what they are paid and nobody thinks that is unusual. I mean how is Al Gore a multi millionaire? Ok, Hellary I can understand from her book deal, but how is Gore so rich? It`s from the stock market isn`t it?

Wonder how long a cop would last if he started pulling in millions like these bums before internal affairs started breathing down his back.

Right. I will say, I have had the opportunity (living here in Massachusetts...er...I know, I know...) to hear the ex-Governor speak extemporaneously in front of a large audience while he was governor (as freely as any politician can speak nowdays) I was very, very impressed with him. I know many think he is "Bill Clinton in a healthier, more family friendly way", but I found him to be nothing like that.

It has been said (and I agree on that assessment) that the kind of charisma Bill Clinton supposedly exudes is that "comradely bonhomie" of someone who likes to party and is moderately good at it. Someone you might have a beer with..."

Romney's is NOT that kind of charisma. His charisma is the kind you get from someone who is good at what they do, and you can see they regard the task at hand (whatever it is) with the appropriate gravity.

I thought he was constantly genuine, energetic, articulate, well informed and down to earth, but NOT in a Clintonesque manner.

I thought at the time:

"He would be a great President, but...he will never run for the office. He will analyze his options, take into account the undeniable impact of his Religion on his candidacy, do the math and conclude it just...won't...work. Being the businessman he apparently is, he would then reject the attempt on the basis of sound capitalistic business practices. It was something he seemed good at (that and the Olympics)..."

I am, therefore, surprised to see him run. I also have to say I did not factor in the contents of his heart as heavily as I should have.

I don’t care how rich they are. I would rather be led by someone who made something of the American dream and has the wealth to show it than some “average joe” who can’t even balance his own checkbook.
