Edwards: Move Past 'War on Terror' May 23 11:36 AM US/Eastern By BETH FOUHY

Associated Press Writer NEW YORK (AP) - Democrat John Edwards Wednesday repudiated the notion that there is a "global war on terror," calling it an ideological doctrine advanced by the Bush administration that has strained American military resources and emboldened terrorists.

In a defense policy speech he planned to deliver at the Council on Foreign Relations, Edwards called the war on terror a "bumper sticker" slogan Bush had used to justify everything from abuses at the Abu Ghraib prison to the invasion of Iraq.

"We need a post-Bush, post-9/11, post-Iraq military that is mission focused on protecting Americans from 21st century threats, not misused for discredited ideological purposes," Edwards said in remarks prepared for delivery. "By framing this as a war, we have walked right into the trap the terrorists have set—that we are engaged in some kind of clash of civilizations and a war on Islam."

Apparently, there really are two Americas: one that believes that radical Islam is a threat to us, and another that doesn't.

I cannot believe anyone with a sound mind can see this weasel as “presidential timber”. And “he” (of course I use the masculine term generously in the context of this hypocritical, ambulance chasing twerp) is considered a “frontrunner” by the so-called MSM.

Breathtaking in his ignorance!

"Breathtaking in his ignorance"

What scares me is that, lately, the American people seem all too breathtaking in their ignorance and completely capable of electing someone like him in '08.

we have walked right into the trap the terrorists have set—that we are engaged in some kind of clash of civilizations and a war on Islam.

What clarity of vision. What did he have to say in the past?

Which way is the wind blowing?

Senator John Edwards
Center for Strategic and International Studies
Washington, DC
October 7, 2002
Remarks as prepared for delivery

...Today I want to focus on America's role in the world, and especially, how the exercise of American leadership around the world is critical to protecting the security of Americans here at home.

...But the first responsibility of any government is the safety and security of its citizens. I believe that, today, that responsibility imposes three challenges above all others: first, to eliminate the threat of chemical, biological, and nuclear weapons; second, to win the war on terrorism; and third, to promote democracy and freedom around the world, especially the Middle East.

With these comments, Edwards shows himself completely and utterly ignorant and misinformed about the greatest threat to civilization since the Nazis. Islamic terrorists are active worldwide, including within the Islamic countries. They are NOT a creation of George Bush. Edwards is therefore not qualified for the presidency.

To finish my point, according to jihadist ideology, any nation that is not living according to their version of Islam is by definition at war with Islam, whether we like it or not. The jihadists DO NOT BELIEVE in peaceful coexistence. Their mission is to reclaim the backsliding (in their view) Muslim countries, then gradually extend their domination over the entire world. Edwards is an idiot; he does not know who these people are.

It is hard to believe that DemocRATs are so ignorant that they may actually believe that if we leave the muzzies alone and withdraw our troops back to the States that the muzzies will abandon their quest for a Capiphate that encompasses every square inch of the Earth and all the Earth’s inhabitants.

Islamic terrorists are active worldwide, including within the Islamic countries. They are NOT a creation of George Bush.

The problem is, it's not just John Edwards who believes that line of BS. Well, to be fair, we don't really know that Edwards believes it, because he's a snake-oil-selling, carnival-barking plaintiff's attorney who would sue his own mother if the price were right. But a hell of a lot of people apparently do believe that the threat of radical Islam is just a big fairy tale cooked up by the Bush Administration to seize power or enrich Haliburton or whatever, and that is far more troubling.

The Democratic base actually literally believes that Pat Robertson and the late Jerry Falwell are a bigger threat to them and our way of life than the Islamic terrorists.

I've recently talked to two, well-educated liberals whose opinion I used to respect even when I disagreed. But they believe that Bush and company generated 9/11, took down the Twin Towers, etc. The only thing that might save the Republicans is the Democrats; they've lost their minds.
