The recent media tempest surrounding the passing of Reverend Jerry Falwell has blown away the mask of sublime compassion and tolerance worn by members of the mainstream left. Sadly – pitifully, really – the collective face exposed beneath the altruistic facade is one marred by ugliness and hatred – scarred by latent self-loathing.
Anti-Christian activist and former John Edwards presidential campaign blogger Amanda Marcotte – whom Edwards defended prior to her resignation from his campaign – kicked off the dancing-on-the-grave hoedown on her popular Pandagon website. Upon news of Falwell’s death, Marcotte pronounced, “The gates of hell swing wide open and Satan welcomes his beloved son.” Further down the thread, someone identified as “Vir Modestus” replied, “There is no heaven (or alas, hell) for him to go to. All that’s left is memory. May his memory rot like his flesh.” Blog member “tzs” longed for the days of old, writing, “…after watching Falwell I know why the Romans threw the Christians to the lions.”
Meanwhile, on the “gay” JoeMyGod weblog, “Vince” lamented, “I had hoped the [expletive deleted] would have pulled through and lived the rest of his life as a vegetable…” And “MegaHorror” over at Wonkette wrote, “I hope he suffered and I hope he was scared…”
There have been thousands of such hateful musings from self-identified “gays” and “lesbians,” atheists and other moveon.org types who make up the base of the “progressive” movement. Many of them can’t even be repeated.
Members of the mainstream media have also piled on. Chicago Sun Times “religion” columnist Cathleen Falsani (who claims to be a Christian) shamelessly celebrated Rev. Falwell’s death in her May 18th column Sigh of Relief over Falwell’s Death, equating him to a murderous mafia don and writing, “In fact, my very first thought upon hearing of the Rev. Falwell’s passing was: Good. And I didn’t mean ‘good’ in a oh-good-he’s-gone-home-to-be-with-the-Lord kind of way. I meant ‘good’ as in ‘Ding-dong, the witch is dead.’”
Although we might expect a spattering of comparable vitriol from a handful of right-leaning fringe elements if a similarly controversial liberal figure had died, it’s hard to imagine those inside the pro-family conservative mainstream – which Rev. Falwell represented – engaging in such a vile celebration of death.
What causes a heart to become so blackened? Why such hatred for a man who spent his entire life in service to both the Lord he loved and to his fellow man? True, he was unapologetically blunt in his defense of objective truth and unwavering in his opposition to sin, but Rev. Falwell showed – in word and deed – that he truly cared for those who hated him. He exposed them to the compassion and love of Christ, who freely offers salvation from the spiritual and physical death which is a natural consequence of immoral self-indulgence.
It’s not Rev. Falwell they hate so much as the truth he delivered. And as much as they hate that truth, they hate the Author of that truth. Scripture tells us that God’s natural law – His objective truth – is written on the heart of every man, woman and child. Our innate understanding of that absolute truth – whether we acknowledge it or not – coupled with our accountability to a sovereign but loving Creator, becomes like a virus to those who deny it. That denial of reality in turn manifests itself in a visceral hatred of those other equally broken and fallen souls who, by contrast, do acknowledge His truth.
Man’s rebellion against the Creator is no new thing. It's a time-honored tradition among those who prefer to view the world through the prism of moral relativism. And the world’s hatred of those who labor to share His truth is as robust as that rebellion. Matthew 5:11-12 tells us, “Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.”
Yes, Rev. Falwell’s death has stripped away the mask, betraying the angry, rebellious and hurting countenance of those who hated him. If they could have, they would have thrown him to the lions. But they didn’t have to. He entered the den willingly with love in his heart and truth on his lips for Christ’s name sake. And based on that objective truth, Rev. Falwell’s reward in heaven will be great indeed.

Although not devotee’ of Mr. Fallwell ,I believe he served God and his Country to the best of his ability. He served in the way he saw fit. He left a Legacy,he made a mark, thats more than any of the hate filled idiots will ever do.
My mask came off when Gore lost...on our side of the ledger. I had voted against Democrats since 1992 (yes, as a stupid teenage bowl of mush with no political knowledge, I voted for Dukakis...a valid reason to raise the minimum voting age to 21), but until November of 2000 I didn't know why.
The self-hatred comes from wishing for the destruction of others as a central tenet of your being, simply because you disagree with them
Imagine what it must be like to hold a political philosophy that requires the ruin of Bush and requires you to throw a whole country- Iraq- over the side to achieve it.
You can’t think like that and wake up every day claiming to love your own children
It’s even less complicated than that. I think it is just a continuation of the war on everything which is traditional and commonly held in the establishment.
The French Revolutions is still playing itself out all over the world ... shock waves continue to reverberate everywhere. Dismantle the establishment …and if organized religion is part of that, it has to go as well.
If these ‘hip-‘, ‘with-it’ young Liberals (and the old ones too, who never grew up and don’t want to) knew how really dated and past-it their ‘non conformism’ and ‘anti-establishment’ posture is, maybe they would step into the 21st century with the rest of us who see this backward-looking, surly, gratuitous vulgarity, and intolerant Liberal BS for what it is.

Scratch a liberal and under his thin skin is a hard core socialist. Dig a little deeper and you will find the Marxist nuclear fuel rod driving all that he does.
Mankind innately craves the approval of the Creator. When it is missing, those who can’t feel it will do anything to get the substitutionary and wholely inadequate approval of men. They become so insecure that even the “approval” of the majority of men will not assuage their feelings of emptiness and failure. They will rail against and hate anyone they believe doesn’t support them in their evil choices. On the other hand, one who knows the Lord is walking with them and helping them needs no one else’s approval and will gladly walk into death in the face of roaring crowds rather than betray their Lord. With God, you are never alone. Without God, you are always alone.
One only has to listen to AirAmerica to understand the depth of hatred and vitriol; at least that is the case in the area where I live. Some of the local AirAmerica talk show hosts are unbelievble. They ooze hatred, lacing it all with crude language. I have heard the hosts say how much they hate Christians and the “Christian Right”.
If they didn’t hate, they wouldn’t have anything to talk about. They hate this admiminstration, they hate Republicans, they hate Bush, they hate James Dobson, they hate Condi Rice, they hate Cheney-———
And I haven’t even looked at the DU or moveon.org websites yet!
I often wonder: where are they going to go with all that hatred when Bush is out in ‘08? It doesn’t exist in a vacuum. It will have to come out somewhere.
Then we ALL could truly ‘Move On’ with a more honest and functional political agenda. No more tiptoeing around the gorilla in the living room. THEY could be themselves and drive their own agenda and WE would be spared this constant necessity of educating voters on the merits of freedom and individuality.
It would be more fair to the American voters (AND taxpayers) and much less disingenuous all around.

The liberal/Marxist will insist in perfect Orwellian manner that he is **not** a Marxist. He is instead a “Progressive” or other flavor of the day.
I had my issues with Falwell’s rhetoric, but what was done to him beginning three minutes after we learned he was taken to the hospital sickened me.
The only thing that keeps the fragile coalition known as today’s Democratic Party is hate. Hatred of anyone that dares to disagree with their ever evolving position on any topic you care to name.
Which is at the heart of why they were stunned at what occured in the wake of Ronald Reagan’s death, btw. They couldn’t believe the majority of Americans mourned Ronald Maximus, because they loved to hate him, and always will.

One of the biggest hypocrisies after 9/11 was listening to liberals explain why so many people hated America, especially Islam. Excuses immediately began pouring out of the woodwork; it’s our foreign policy, it’s our support for Israel, it’s our consumption and wealth...blah, blah, blah. Conspicuously missing from all these “excuses” was the Left’s own contribution to this hatred, which is perhaps the most damaging and dangerous to this country.
A great illustration of this hypocrisy ocurred while I was listening to Charlie Rangel’s (D-NY) news conference several months ago were he objected to the vial rhetoric of Hugo Chavez as he berated our President before the UN. I couldn’t help but be amused by this hypocrisy; for years the Democrats have attacked Bush—just as they do every Republican president, maligning and marginalizing them for the rest of the world to see and hear.
This hypocrisy became even more evident as I watched Hugo Chavez (from the podium at the U.N.) endorse a book written by one of the leading, liberal American authors/professors (Noam Chomsky) whose only work has been that of attacking his own country for years on-end. This MIT professor’s anti-American diatribes have made him a favorite among the American-hating Left in this country...and now as we see, with other world leaders who take these screeds as facts to justify and excuse their own anti-American hatred.
From liberal professors in academia, to Democrat politicians to Hollywood actors and their movies and the media—American liberals have ingrained a hatred in the mind of others for this country that goes well beyond Bush, the Iraq War and this administration. These people have been building this resentment for decades—in our classrooms, TV/movies, the news media and certainly in our politics. During the Cold War, Reagan was the enemy as many of these same liberals worked hand and hand with the Soviets as they infiltrated special interest groups to sow discontent and dissent among various groups of people in this country. Whether it’s rich vs. poor, young vs. old, men vs. women, black vs. white, Gay vs. Straight, etc.—the Left, just like their communist counterparts, has created perpetual conflict under the guise of social reform.
How the Left can even pretend to care about what the “World” thinks about this country is the height of hypocrisy. In the last couple years alone, both the media and leaders within our own Democrat Party have spoon-fed our enemies the very excuses and reasons to hate us. From Dick Durbin accusing US troops at Gitmo of committing heinous atrocities to John Kerry claiming US soldiers were terrorizing innocent Iraqis, these elected Democrats have inspired this hatred. When you have the leading Democrat in the Senate (Harry Reid) before a classroom of children referring to president Bush as a “loser,” just what kind of message do they think this is sending to others around the world? Do they honestly expect a dictator like Chavez to treat or respect our president any better than they do?
From 50+ front page news stories by the NY Times on the “torture” at Abu Ghraib (and Ted Kennedy agreeing, claiming it is open under new management), to Newsweek’s lying article about US soldiers flushing Korans down a toilet, the liberal media in alliance with their Democrat allies have willingly become the instigators of this very hatred. This same media that chastises the US government for daring to display photos of Saddam and his two dead sons...and ANY captured prisoners (sighting Geneva Accords) had no problem demanding that even more photos of Abu Ghraib be released, almost a year after the event, just so they could further inflame Muslim emotions “against” the USA.
Whether it’s the vitriolic rhetoric of Democratic politicians accusing Bush of being a liar or the deliberate misrepresentations made by liberal film makers such as Michael Moore, the bombardment of hatred towards this country, by people in this country, is inescapable. Heck, Hollywood is one of the biggest exporters of hatred to other countries in the form of movies and entertainment that do nothing more than marginalize and malign America. Well before these current events, people from around the world could pick up any Hollywood movie and see (from the Left’s perspective) how the USA is nothing but a racist and degenerate society.
Is it really any wonder why the rest of the world may hate America when you see how the media, Democrat politicians and the liberal entertainment industry (including music) has defined this country’s image? And what makes the Left’s hatred and vitriol so dangerous are their so-called “celebrities” that are given platforms from which to speak. Unlike the crazies on the Right who have always been marginalized (especially by the media), these liberals are not only given platforms, they are treated with deference and congeniality, as though they hold PH.Ds in world events.
Whether it’s the conspiracy theories emminating from the minds and mouths of people like Rosie O’Donnell or Sean Penn, the Left’s fringe has become part of their mainstream. As a result, their words are carried from the TV and “net” to all places around the globe—including in the foreign press, that picks these screeds up as fact and actual news events. Unlike those from the Right who are often shunned—and often from their own members, the Left embraces their madness and treats it as Gospel...hailing the messanger.
That liberals have the nerve to even pose the question of why we are hated—and then explain it without addressing their own contribution to this discourse is disgusting; worse...it is becoming increasingly deadly. Decades of this hatred has not only indoctrinated many minds in this country, it has obviously seeped out of this country and into the minds and hearts of our friends and foes alike, who are now using these words and thoughts to drive their own hatred for America. Democrats and their allies have taken politics from the once sacred “waters-edge,” to the rest of world—were even this country’s enemies are given a voice; a voice that often sounds eerily similar to theirs. By doing this, these Liberals haven’t just emboldened our enemies, they’ve enabled them; they’ve given Muslims around the world the very excuses and reasons to hate us, and thus, further attack us.
Perhaps most ironic and just as dangerous is the “domestic” terrorism that liberalism inspires. From people like John Walker Lind to the Korean student at VT (Cho), liberalism is indoctrinating American students with a vapid hatred for this country. Liberal professors who engage in wild conspiracy theories and anti-American rhetoric are creating a new generation of young adults who are being bred to despise their own country. This has been going on for decades as liberal-socialists use revisionist history in their attempts to destroy any loyalty to this country.
This has always been the true nature of Marxism/Communism—and now modern-day liberalism. It is an ideology that does nothing more than prey on the youth and disenfranchised through fear and discontent, creating imaginery enemies (and victims) to fight in perpetual conflicts. As a result of this ideology, Liberals have now endangered every one of us and our families. Whether it’s our enemies abroad...or our own people within, liberals have ingrained and inspired a hatred through their politics into the minds and souls of people around the world for America and Her way of life.

The standard had been set by Richard Nixon, who LOVED this country enough to spare it what Al Gore, the Democratic Party and their Thug Lawyers would not. What they put the country through in 2000 was unforgiveable.
Read the threads from that time and you will see that serious people like Walter Williams and others were using the "S" word: succession.
From that time, I have been aware that I co-exist with a large faction of the population that has no qualms about destroying this country.
Think about the Liberals YOU know...
Most are small, hate-filled individuals of questionable sexuality, enraged at the world for some percieved slight, or another.
They are mad about thier tiny schlong, or the non-acceptance of gays, or they were beaten by the jocks in high-school while the pretty girls laughed.
This rage translates into a borderline insanity, later in life, and goes a long way to explain thier inability to accept THE FACTS of nearly any situation...
