What Does It Mean "The South Shall Rise Again":
The Wichita (KS) Eagle ^ | 23 May 2007 | Mark McCormick

Posted on 05/24/2007 6:03:30 AM PDT by Rebeleye

...he was stunned to see two large Confederate flags flying from trucks...emblazoned with the words "The South Shall Rise Again." I'm stunned, too, that people still think it is cool to fly this flag. Our society should bury these flags -- not flaunt them...because the Confederate flag symbolizes racial tyranny to so many... ...This flag doesn't belong on city streets, in videos or in the middle of civil discussion. It belongs in our past -- in museums and in history books -- along with the ideas it represents.

Probably a trial lawyer, and thus, a Democrat.

Nope. Criminal defense attorney.

I appreciate the clarification.

The Federal Government after illegal attacking the South has done a bang up job of ruining our great nation with Socialism, reduction of state’s rights, restriction our liberty and freedoms for their self-empowerment, and supporting their fat cat supporters. The states removed themselves from the Union and the Federal Government started the war by not removing forces from the Fort as requested.

If you join a group and later determine that the group is not working for your benefit, than leaving should not be an issue. The rest of the group might not be happy, but to force you to rejoin is a bit petty and mean spirited! Slavery was on the way out anyhow. Just would have happened later.

Which flag are we talking about being "co-opted"?

“I do wonder, however, why the loyal Sons of the South let it be continually co-opted and defiled by the racists and neo-gnatzi boobs.”

The "loyal Sons of the South" have done no such thing. OTOH The race industry has with the help of the MSM. Of course some people will believe anything if the MSM and/or our liberal education system says it is so.

You couldn't distill Yankee bigotry any purer if you tried.

they are not all bad, just some here are sorta loud.

the irony is that most yankees today share little or no DNA with that era unlike most of us down here, yet they whine like my great great grandaddy killed their's

they just carry on about it because it invoilves racial/ethnic issues and giving what they think is "correct" answer makes them feel superior

they were just as racist as the Southerners, they just had fewer slaves because they didn't need them, they weren't so high minded about how they treated the Indians were they?

they fought because they did not want us to leave and we fought because they were here

both self interest motivations..

Not specific tactics, just a desire to punish Southern Americans.

Um...no. Here's what you said:

If you read the lyrics of the “Battle Hymn of the Republic”, it refers to killing American civilians, families....

Here's a clue for you: Words mean things, and that sentence means that the lyrics advocate the killing of civilians. Nice try.

You said it advocated those things. You did not say it advo The Battle Hymn of the Republic was written by Julia Howe, not Lincoln.

Here's another clue: Two writiers can discuss the same things in their work. My point remains the same. Read Lincoln's Second Inaugural and then ask yourself what the grapes of wrath is all about.

Well, as the previous poster stated: If the Flag offends you, you need a History lesson.

States Rights, primarily.

Manifested in what way? In other words state's right to do what?

The fact was the writing was on the wall about slavery before the first shot was fired at Ft Sumnter. But by that point, the politicians rhetoric had reached a fevered pitched we’ve only seen once since, and that was the day after Pearl Harbor

It's easy to look back after 140 years and see that slavery was a doomed institution. But I'm not aware of any Southern leader of the time who thought slavery was destined for an early end. They all believed that they would be handing it down to their children and grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Its revealing to note the number of fist fights and ‘canings’ that took place in the five years before the outbreak of war in the House and Senate. Not to mention the number of duels, responded to or not, offered up.

Well I'm aware of one. I'm not familiar with any others.

Everybody thought it would be one big battle, and over.

Still a lot of that going around, isn't there?

I agree. He was a decent fellow all round, overcame a lot.

Trusted his friends too much, though.

I lived in Atlanta for 4 years in the early 80’s. Atlanta’s not the south!

Why are you shouting? I agree with you. Not only York in WWI, but Murphy in WWII was an example. I’ve no problem with the CBF being used to denote pride in gallant ancestors. I do have a problem when it is being co-opted to promote segregation and racism.

Bravo! I couldn’t have said it better myself. I think the people who hate the Confederate flag hate and want to dominate the south. They look at the south as being beneath them. Its all about southern pride and nothing to do with slavery like they want to imply. I just wish they would MTOB.

Still, the larger issue is the insistence of too many people to publicly fly this flag.

Can't have the plebs getting all uppity, thinking that they have free speech and all...
