Ailing Texas Pol Makes His Bed at State Capitol to Block Anti-Illegal Immigrant Voting Bill
AP/Fox News ^ | May 22, 2007

Against his doctor's advice, a stooped and feeble Sen. Mario Gallegos arrives at the Texas legislature each day, just to make sure lawmakers do not take up a bill requiring voters to show identification proving they are not illegal immigrants.

And when the rigors of the job start to wear on the Democratic lawmaker, whose body is trying to reject a liver transplanted four months ago, he retires to a hospital-style bed — donated by a Republican colleague — in a room next to the Senate chamber.

From there, he can be summoned at a moment's notice should his vote be needed to keep the bill from reaching the floor.

Against his doctor’s advice, a stooped and feeble Sen. Mario Gallegos arrives at the Texas legislature each day . . .

If he can make it to the Texas legislature despite all of that, others can make the minimal required to get an ID . . . or if ineligible, to just not vote.

Without an ID you cannot enter a bar in Texas.
Without an ID you cannot drive a car in Texas.
Without an ID you will find it extremely difficult to write a check in Texas.
Without an ID you will find it extremely difficult to cash a check in Texas.
Without an ID you will find it difficult to buy beer in Texas.
Without an ID you will find it difficult to buy cigarettes in Texas.
Without an ID you will find it difficult to board a commercial airplane in Texas.

Come on, add to the list...

Democrats are only concerned about vote fraud when they lose elections. They claim it is the only way they CAN lose.

We are about to give amnesty to millions with “dual citizenship” even though our own government does not recognize such a construct.

If they are registered to vote in Mexico, they should not be permitted to vote in the US as well.

Same with Canadians like Peter Jennings (who became an Ameican late in life but still claimed Canadian citizenship as well).

Somehow I am reminded of Ma and Pa, LBJ, the Duke of Duval County, et al.

If I can’t add to your list, will versification do?

No bar,
No car,
No checks,
No sex (poetic license),

No flights,
No lights,
No boarding pass,
No piece of . . .

.
That’s all, folks!

I don’t know why, but lately I’ve been asked to show an id to make a credit card purchase!

But Democrats say thousands of legal residents will lose the right to vote because they lack proper identification. Opponents of the measure — including Gallegos, a Mexican-American — say minorities, the elderly and the poor are less likely than others to have driver's licenses or other documents.

They've all lost their birth certificates, City Hall has destroyed it for every single one of the poor or old or resident alien?? My, how convenient ... one wonders how the clerks knew just which one to pull out of the file drawer.

You know me, ever the pedantic-Celtic, but I do so wish people would get their complaints correct. People who are unable to present proper I.D. would not lose their right to vote, merely their ability -- something easily rectified on all counts.

He's a hero... for ILLEGALS.

It'll be fun watching the whine that spews from the Left when this bill/photo id to vote requirement eventually passes (may not be this session, but I'm sure Rick Perry will have no trouble calling a special session to get the job done).

Of course the Libs, will probably hunt down another ILLEGAL-loving U.S. federal judge to grant an injunction using the justification that making someone flash an id to vote usurps federal authority or some other bleeding heart B.S. reasoning.
