Chavez rooting on Venezuelan driver Duno (Indianapolis 500)

Milka Duno and Hugo Chavez bantered back and forth like a couple of flirty schoolchildren. When the two hooked up on the phone this week, Chavez invited Duno to "go for a ride" in his red Volkswagen Bug. Duno countered with an offer to attend a race, drawing a big laugh from the Venezuelan president

"Give me a ride!" he exclaimed. "With you, I'll go anywhere."

For many Americans, Chavez is a pompous blowhard, the world leader who called President Bush "the devil" and positioned himself as a righteous warrior against U.S. imperialism.

Come Sunday, though, Chavez will have a rooting interest in that most red, white and blue of events: the Indianapolis 500.

Duno is the first Venezuelan to make the race, not to mention being part of the first three-woman field in Indy history.

I don't watch Car racing, but I will certainly be voting against the "blowhard's " girl from Venzuela

Is it just me, or does this unflattering picture of Milka Duno look just like Michael Jackson?

Her car has Citgo plastered all over it as well; another reason to hope she finishes as a back marker. I will say she has more curves than your average racetrack..

I would like to see Sarah Fisher or Danica win the race.

Here is another of Milka in a Citgo outfit, I think you are right, she does look like Michael Jackson.

Someone should slip in and put a “Hammer & Sickle” emblem on her car.

Well, she is odd looking with a funny nose. No worry though because there is no way (barring a 32 car crash) she will win Indy this year. By lap 100, she'll either be 5+ laps down or out of the race all together.

GO DANICA!!!!

That just lowered my opinion of her. If Chavez is her buddy, then I hope she finishes dead last.

Actually, the picture flatters her.

If you want a woman to win, wish a win for Danica.

I myself want the kid Andretti to win. He is a hell of a young driver!

Last year it was enjoyable to watch him and his Dad dueling!

I think I agree with you. I remember pulling for the young Andretti myself. And I like Danica!

Car races in general are not won by the racer with the most votes. I plan on watching the entire race, and will be pulling for anyone at the end of the race on the same lap as the leader. Any team and racer that can win this race deserves congratulations and respect from the entire racing world.

Duno has no chance. She’s a rookie with little 500 track time, and she starting from 29th (out of 33). Nobody has ever won from that far back. (Two have won from 28th.) Her qualifying speed was the second-worst of the field, was 3.3 mph behind the field average, and 6 mph slower than the top 5. She’s window-dressing, and the only way to get the Fisher-Patrick tandem some attention (since they’ve raced before). Indy has more problems fielding 33 cars lately than getting quality racers, so they’re happy to have a PR-generating back-row filler.

I’ll admit it gets attention, though not as much as Danica!

I believe that this comes a bit closer than the comparison to Jacko.

You may not like her politics but you can't deny that Milka is drop dead gorgeous.

I would like to see Sarah Fisher win, if a woman wins the race.

There was an article in USA Today saying that Danica was a bitty.

I’m not sure which is most boring to watch — golf, soccer, bowling, car racing, pro basketball or the Superbowl.

I think this last one is intersting, because she looks exactly like the beer-girl models who often adorn the cars for Indy photo-shoots.

I hope she wins! And after she wins I hope her victory, her car, her trophy and all of her money is seized from her ‘by the people’ and all of it is redistributed to the last place finisher ‘for the people’. Then she should get a one way ticket back to Venezuela.

OK, there’s a little Jacko resemblance, but she’s sure got a cute smile. Now let’s see if she’s just curvy eye candy or if she’s got actual driving chops like Fisher and Patrick.

My prediction: DNF. Something breaks on the car and she finishes about where she started, 29th or so.
