Rosie O'Donnell has fought her last fight at "The View." ABC said Friday she asked for, and received, an early exit from her contract at the daytime chatfest following her angry confrontation with co-host Elisabeth Hasselbeck on Wednesday. She was due to leave in mid-June.
It ended a colorful eight-month tenure for O'Donnell that lifted the show's ratings but no doubt caused heartburn for show creator Barbara Walters. O'Donnell feuded with Donald Trump and frequently had snippy exchanges with the more conservative Hasselbeck.
O'Donnell said last month she would be leaving because she could not agree to a new contract with ABC executives.
"Rosie contributed to one of our most exciting and successful years at `The View,'" Walters said. "I am most appreciative. Our close and affectionate relationship will not change."
In a statement, O'Donnell said that "it's been an amazing year and I love all three women."
No one was feeling the love on Wednesday, when the argument with Hasselbeck began over O'Donnell's statement last week about the war: "655,000 Iraqi civilians have died. Who are the terrorists?"
Talk show critics accused O'Donnell of calling U.S. troops terrorists. She called Hasselbeck "cowardly" for not saying anything in response to the critics.
"Do not call me a coward, because No. 1, I sit here every single day, open my heart and tell people what I believe," Hasselbeck retorted, and their riveting exchange continued despite failed attempts by their co-hosts to cut to a commercial.
According to a New York Post report, O'Donnell's chief writer, Janette Barber, was allegedly led out of the building on Wednesday after she was caught drawing mustaches on photographs of Hasselbeck in "The View" studios. ABC executives didn't return repeated calls for questions on the incident Friday.
On Thursday O'Donnell had asked for a day off to celebrate her partner's birthday. "The View" aired a taped show on Friday.
On her Web site, O'Donnell posted a scrapbooklike video on Friday with pictures and news clippings of her tenure at "The View." Cyndi Lauper's "Sisters of Babylon" played in the background.
A day earlier, she posted messages on her Web site indicating she might not be back.
"When painting there is a point u must step away from the canvas as the work is done," she wrote. "Any more would take away."
Yip Yip Yip Yahooo!!!
But the O’Donnell-Democrats are here forever.
It’s my new term for the liberals.
HAsselbeck gave it back to her and now she’s skulking off...typical coward liberal.
It’s Bush’s Fault!
Kinda “cumbersome” -
How about “O’Donnellcrats”?
Her staff trashed the dressing room. I doubt it was “her choice” to leave. She was outed as a Islamonazi propagandist on the order of Axis Sally from WWII on national television and her staff took it hard.
Why it took “this” level of outrage to drop her is beyond me.
Yeah, sure, whatever you say.(end/sarcasm)
My guess is she was so rude they asked her to leave early.
Oooh! Poor baby got her wittle feelins hurt.
The leftist can dish out all sorts of crap, but once smacked down really good they slitter off and pout.
Makes you think.
If a light weight like Hasselbeck can drive Rosie O’Donut away in huff, what would happen if our so called conservative representatives actually started to fight back?
Actually she is leaving since she has generously volunteered as to help guide the stranded whales out of the Sacramento River.
>> “Rosie contributed to one of our most exciting and successful years at `The View,’” show creator Barbara Walters said. “I am most appreciative. Our close and affectionate relationship will not change.”
If I had any residual shred of respect for BaBa WaWa lying around in my fevered brain... it’s gone now.
I just don’t get this. Rosie accused Elisabeth of being cowardly in not defending Rosie, or defending her right to speak , or something. Rosie accused Elisabeth of cowardly behavior.
Now, Rosie has asked to be released early from her contract????? Couldn’t that be considered cowardly on the part of Rosie? She’s too afraid to go back and finish out her contract????
Rosie is backing away from a potential confrontation by not going back to the show?????
Is Rosie cowardly at all?
Rosie has to know that people will draw their conclusions about her, based on this and her other actions. But this sure looks like she is too stressed or too afraid to go back and face the girls or face Elisabeth again.
Well, I am certain that Barbara Walters will miss Rosie so very much. Yeah, right.
Babs is probably breathing a lot easier today. Can’t blame her. She created a monster.
Bub, bye, Rosie. You’ll be missed...by someone, I guess.
She’s her own worst enemy— combative AND thin-skinned, and sure of herself without deserving to be.
And the self-loathing apparent in that woman is really just sad. Too bad she’s so obnoxious she kills any sympathy for her.
Note to ABC: Time to find another Fat, ugly, dumb lesbian.
Fat, drunk amd stupid is no way to go through life.
That picure says it all. Great choice.
Truth be known, she hates herself the most.
whoever snapped that photo is a genius.
Hates the lovely Elisabeth.
Is Free Republic going the route of the tabloids?
This woman is deranged and quite frightening. Why do we give her the time of day?
Cause she makes us laugh.
They finally separated that mad cow from the herd.
A new nickname for the queen of mean “Hogzilla”!
Fat, ugly and stupid is no way to go through life.
“Why do we give her the time of day?”
Because...”This woman is deranged and quite frightening. “
bye, bye, bitc....
Interesting. The first story was she had planned to take the day off for her partner’s 40th birthday.
Oh the HughManatee!!!
Hey Rosie! Let the door hit your ample ass on the way out!
We need to have a Hasselbeck rule.
I will miss you. You are a great spokeswoman for the treason-atic party. Only you would say what you really all think.
Tiny little Hasselbeck, stands up for herself and Rosie can’t take it and runs away. Liberals really are cowards.
LOL, I like it.
Kind of reminds me of what the Clintons did to the white house when they left...
It’s what the libs will try do to our country when we’ll ultimately have to face them down!
Everybody say hello to Rosie on the thread folks. I guarantee you she’s here lurking, or will be.
Hasselbeck took you down. Bet it hurts. Glad it does.
I miss Gilda.
“The View” Staffer Allegedly Draws Moustaches On Elisabeth

New York, NY (AHN) - First, Elisabeth and Rosie got into a nasty brawl on Wednesday’s episode of “The View.” Then the blonde co-host was snubbed by actress Alicia Silverstone, who happened to be a guest on the show that day. And now, believe it or not, there’s another person who has a bone to pick with the conservative host. All of this only a few days before her 30th birthday!
On Thursday, Janette Barber - Rosie’s head writer on “The View” - was caught drawing mustaches on pictures of Elisabeth that are on display in the studio’s lobby, reports dlisted.com. And it didn’t take long before the writer was quickly escorted out into the streets of New York.
ABC has confirmed the incident took place, saying, “Photographs at The View’s offices were defaced. Rosie O’Donnell was not in the building. ABC Legal and Human Resources are investigating the matter,” reports PEOPLE.
Rosie was nowhere to be found on Thursday since she had taken the day off to be with her partner Kelli, who was celebrating her 40th birthday.
In the past couple of days, the outspoken co-host has hinted on her blog that she may be leaving “The View” before her contact is up in late June, saying she is “sad” about Wednesday’s fall-out and believes that her “work is done.”
And also for your viewing pleasure....
I miss Gilda, too.
“It’s always something!”
Now the great Anne Coulter just needs to take Hasselbeck under her wings a little bit and nurture and we’d have two great Conservative women sages....
