UK. NATO forces carry out amphibious landing in Poland
Friday, 25 May 2007
NATO Forces training for the NATO Response Force (NRF) in the Baltic conducted a commando amphibious landing and assault operation at Ustka, Poland, earlier this week to test NATO's capability to carry out Initial Entry Operations - one of the NRF's key missions. The NRF is a joint force of ships, aircraft and ground troops able to respond at short notice to a range of crisis situations with a precise level of intervention or military force.
Royal Marines of 40 Commando landed on the beach facing fierce opposition from a combined Swedish and Finish Amphibious Force.
"This sort of training opportunity, particularly opposed entry, is invaluable" said Admiral Sir James Burnell-Nugent. "It enhances planning, coordination and teamwork skills and helps ensure NATO forces are at optimum readiness to respond to a crisis anywhere in the world".
The landing was a part of a rigorous two week exercise period designed to challenge NATO forces in the full spectrum of NRF operations, including embargo operations, non-combatant evacuation, support to counter-terrorism, peacekeeping and peace enforcement, and humanitarian relief. It also tested the Air, Land and Sea components' ability to work closely together to ensure collaborative planning, integrated communications and clear command and control at all levels. 19 nations took part in the exercises including NATO partner nations.
Great photos, lizol, thanks for sharing.
Fabulous pics!!!
This one is my favorite -- I've never seen a shot quite like it:
Thanks for the excellent pictures, lizol!
Can’t wait to see the F-35 in a similar photograph as well.
I know the world changed almost two decades ago, but the lessons of childhood aren’t easy to forget; when I read that NATO forces landed in Poland, for a split-second I wanted to dive under my desk.
Thanks for the links — I appreciate it.
