If Don Imus could be fired for offensive racial remarks, Bill Maher certainly deserves discipline from his employer for bashing Christians, including his description of a Catholic Mass as graphic homosexual acts, charge media watchers.
Explicit sexual mockery of Scripture and Catholic theology on HBO's "Real Time with Bill Maher" should be addressed by parent company Time-Warner, say Brent Bozell III, president of the Media Research Center, and Robert Knight, director of the MRC's Culture and Media Institute.
Maher's comments began with a verbal assault on Jerry Falwell three days after the Baptist minister's death May 15 then "escalated into a vicious attack on Christianity in general and Roman Catholicism in particular," MRC says.
(Story continues below)
Maher said, "'We weren't having sex, officer, I was performing a very private Mass, here in my car. I was letting my rod and staff comfort him. Take this and eat of it, for this is my roommate Barry. And for all those who believe there is a special place for you in Kevin."
Bozell said Time-Warner "needs to hold Maher accountable for his despicable remarks."
"We're asking, 'Are you okay with what he said? If not, what are you going to do about it?'" he said.
Bozell noted his friend Bill Donohue, president of the Catholic League, has documented a pattern, calling Maher "a serial anti-Catholic bigot."
Knight acknowledged Maher is "entitled to his vile views, but he's not entitled to an endless ride on the airwaves courtesy of Time-Warner."
"If Don Imus's offensive racial joke was too much for the public to bear, certainly Maher's sickening description of the Mass and Communion as graphic homosexual sex acts is beyond the pale," Knight said.
As WND reported, Maher stirred controversy two years ago when he said Christians suffer from a neurological disorder that "stops people from thinking."
Appearing as a guest on MSNBC's "Scarborough Country," Maher told host Joe Scarborough:
"We are a nation that is unenlightened because of religion. I do believe that. I think that religion stops people from thinking. I think it justifies crazies. I think flying planes into a building was a faith-based initiative. I think religion is a neurological disorder. If you look at it logically, it's something that was drilled into your head when you were a small child. It certainly was drilled into mine at that age. And you really can't be responsible when you are a kid for what adults put into your head."
Maher isn’t scary, what’s scary is the hundreds of fresh zombies who fill his studio every week and applaud his every insult to America and Christianity.
Oh yeah, and Bill, if you call yourself a libertarian, you can’t also admit you’re a socialist and that you want hate crime laws passed alongside affirmative action. Oh yeah, and he supports Bush’s wiretapping. (At least he says he does.) How can we trust someone who misdiagnosed his own politics by 180 degrees?
Bill Maher is one of the most hate-filled people on TV. He was giddy as he was celebrating the death of Jerry Falwell, and his dipshit audience hooted their approval. Does he EVER get challenged by a conservative on his show? It’s just a liberal circle jerk. It seems like he would have a stroke if just one of his “guests” didn’t suck up to him and his retard audience.

Weird guy. Who would even think of such a thing. I don’t think we should get involved in this nasty display that Bill mentioned. I truly believe he will destruct on his own. I find this revolting though.
Maher is ANTI-GOD!
Try bashing the Muzzies on the air in THIS country, and see what happens!
Maher almost seems jealous of bishops.
maher won’t come out of the closet. he’s a dyed-in-the-wool atheist and will not admit it. neither will he admit that he has an agenda and that agenda is socialism with a totalitarian bent, that is, a marxist.
Sounds more like a backhanded slap at Christians. As you (and he) know, "faith-based initiative" is a term used by Christians, not Muslims. He is removing the blame from Islam and placing it on religion in general.
This guy is a creep. He should direct his attention to another ideology which makes people fly planes into buildings, strap bombs around children, blow up buses full of people, and saw heads off to the accompaniment of religious chanting.
I’ll teach him. I pray offer masses and pray him into seminary. As awful as he is now, he’ll make a huge example after he has his Road to Damascus.
We will be dropping HBO after the last Sopranos....
Maher is a closet Homo..he keeps talking about act such as this...perhaps one day we will read about him at a highway rest stop....
Maher is a small man with a large forum...he is a bigot and a loud mouth. He is not happy until he offends. There must be a name for his disorder somewhere.
If everyone ignores him, maybe he will go back to whatever latrine he came from.
Here’s another loud mouth who deserves “to quit” from their TV show.
The difference between Imus and Maher is that Imus is more or less fair and balanced. He trash talks and insults everyone, whereas Maher only insults politically correct targets.
Another difference is that Imus once attacked bill & hillary clinton at the National Press Club, which Maher would never do. I think hillary most likely ordered his firing, because she needed to eliminate one of the few people on the airwaves willing to make fun of her. Fox News certainly won’t do it while Murdoch is in charge.
That said, we should continue to keep the pressure on Maher’s bosses. This was beyond disgusting.
I cancelled HBO when they came up with the garbage about pro-abortion rah-rah crap in the late 90’s.
HBO is the sewer, in my humble opinion.
