Birkett is a big time law and order guy, so it looks like there's a coverup going on here, but for some reason the Chicago papers aren't going after this story with their usual zeal. There's no love lost between Birkett and the media, so I'm assuming they're giving the story a pass because they liked Radostits or out of respect for her family. Was she a Dem? If so, nuff said.

County administration and the states attorney's office are Republican, so the odds that she was a Dimocrat are slim to nada.
It's as difficult to find registered Dem attorneys in Du Page county as it is to find registered GOP attorneys in Cook county, the domain of the Daley fiefdom.

This story says Radostits was a republican:

(excerpt)
Radostits was active in Republican Party politics and aspired to be a judge. Last fall, she was one of two finalists for an associate judgeship and it was widely believed she soon would be appointed to the bench. She had a second home in DuPage County and the family planned to move there.
