So how did An Inconvenient Truth become required classroom viewing?
National Post/Live Daily ^ | 5-19-2007 | Kevin Libin

First it was his world history class. Then he saw it in his economics class. And his world issues class. And his environment class. In total, 18-year-old McKenzie, a Northern Ontario high schooler, says he has had the film An Inconvenient Truth shown to him by four different teachers this year.

"I really don't understand why they keep showing it," says McKenzie (his parents asked that his last name not be used). "I've spoken to the principal about it, and he said that teachers are instructed to present it as a debate. But every time we've seen it, well, one teacher said this is basically a two-sided debate, but this movie really gives you the best idea of what's going on."

McKenzie says he has educated himself enough about both sides of the climate- change controversy to know that the Al Gore movie is too one-sided to be taught as fact. Even scientists who back Mr. Gore's message admit they're uncomfortable with liberties the politician takes with "science" in the film. But, McKenzie says most of his classmates are credulous. His teachers are not much more discerning. "They don't know there's another side to the argument," he says. McKenzie's mother was outraged to find out that Mr. Gore's film was being presented as fact in her son's classroom. "This is just being poured into kids' brains instead of letting them know there's a debate going on," she says. "An educational system falls down when they start taking one side."

I honestly would have no problem with my son being shown the film as long as the class did an honest, in-depth analysis of the facts to determine if the film was correct or simple propoganda.

The film should not be shown in science classes because it's not in any way a objective look at the issue and half of the film is a hagiography of Al Gore.

It would be like showing Michael Moore's film Sicko in health classes - has that happened yet? It certainly would not surprise me!

The school announced it will soon be teaching the children with “Triumph of the Will”, “Birth of a Nation” and “The Protocols of the Elders of Zion”.

I was required to watch Michael Moore’s BS pile “Roger And Me” in a college geography class, of all places. “Sicko” wouldn’t surprise me either.

My son came home from parochial school the other day with his head full of lies from this film. It took a little deprogramming to assure him we were not all going to be cooked alive. The principal has been informed of my displeasure.

Pretty ridiculous but what I find interesting is the courses. I went to high school a long time ago but I don’t recall high school being a time to study such subject (except as part of a larger course such as history). We were so busy with learning basics such as science, math, English, etc. that our electives were pretty much limited to foreign languages, advanced math or English, debate, business courses (i.e. typing or shorthand), shop or home economics. How do they have time to cover environment, economics or world issues as separate courses? Is this why our kids can’t spell or write worth a hoot?

Signed, me, an old coot.

I did a search for Gore and Inconvenient Truth and didn’t find anything. Guess I should have searched for Algore as a keyword instead of Gore.

The NEA is probably behind all of this. Parents need to stand up and tell those schools what they think of this kind of stuff. They are the ones paying the taxes to support the schools.

Oh, never fear, leftists are famous for doing comprehensive and in-depth critical analysis of their own propaganda.

That would be a good lesson in critical thinking for the young to take what they have already learned and use it to prove or disprove junk science.

1. The idea itself is sacrosanct to the liberals
2. Liberals believe that Americans are sagacious as a populace and that only they have the right of sovereignty

The entire book/PowerPoint/Movie/speech whatever of Al Gore and the enviro postate is a slumgullion of falsitudes presented as a gospel

If they try that here, my kids would “conveniently” be absent that day.

It should be exposed as propaganda as The Eternal Jew, Triumph of the Will, and other films are.

The “Oscar” award for this film is a disgrace, as was the Academy’s celebration of Leni Reifentstahl the year she died.

If someone did “great” work for Fred Phelps we all know they would not and should not be celebrated.

Leni may have made other films but she was Hitler’s lover and “those films” are the ones that are shown in every filmmaking class. Her Nazi work is the reason she is known today.

Sicko hasn’t been released yet (although he released bootlegs of F911 to the internet and even Cuban television WITHOUT trying to shut down the providers).
