It matters because the DemonRats and their accomplices in the MSM are using the supposed lack of *any* connection between OBL and Saddam Insane to undermine that part of the war on Islamist terrorism that is being conducted in Iraq. Show that they are lying through their teeth and it becomes harder for them to do.

Osama is only one player, the one who attacked us directly, but still only one player. Isalmist terrorism is not centrally controlled in the same way as a rogue country like Iraq under Saddam or Germany under Hitler. Russia under Stalin and Japan under Tojo are better examples, but still not Cut off the head of this snake, and two more heads will pop up to take it's place.
The only "centers" are in Oom, Najaf, Mecca, Medina and probably most important the madrassas in Pakistan and elsewhere.

I thought one more visual evidence, this one before 9/11 and coming from “reputable” and “respectable” media source, couldn’t hurt.
Several of these “in their own words”, combined with Saddam’s own documents (relevance of which media repeatedly denigrates and tries to misinterpret) will make a substantial body of evidence that al-Qaeda’s presence in Iraq was not minimal or accidental and evolved into serious migration from Afghanistan since 2002, after fall of Taliban protection, one that they could either no longer ignore or become “less and less relevant” (just like Jimmy Carter) :~)
A real documentary on DVD would be a good counter to all the liberal “mockumentaries” of Michael Moore’s genre, and Wilson/Plame type of movies that are and will be coming out. Something that is cheap to reproduce and easy to distribute for people who are getting tired of being bombarded with propaganda every day but don’t know the facts.
Areed that a good DVD for distribution would be effective. That in mind, why hasn’t the RNC gotten this done? Blowing the liberal press and DNC talking points up their own rears would seem to be a good idea, so why haven/t Pubbies done it? Must we do everything for them? LOL
The lie is this: that Republicans generally, and the Administration and Republican candidates for President in particular have (falsely) claimed that Saddam was involved with 9/11.
The purpose of this lie is obviously to discredit Republicans as well as to cast into doubt the ethical underpinnings of the Bush Administration's conduct of the Iraq war. It is evidently designed to put on the defensive people who have never claimed what they are accused of claiming, while diverting public attention from the demonstrable involvement of Saddam with Al Qaeda and the current presence of Al Qaeda in Iraq.
This is what truly good disinformatsia is designed to do: to place its targets on the defensive while obscuring the aims of those who tell the lie. I have now seen this meme emerge several times during the past week in the media and in the left-wing Blogosphere, and cannot help but believe it is no accident.

My mind is fuzzy, but that interview may have included bin Laden’s
(repeated?) declaration of war on the USA.
Miller seemed to be a pretty straight-shooter (for the MSM) and did
a few terrorism-related shows on ABC before he got picked up to work
with LAPD head Bratten in 2001.

IIRC, John Miller of ABC and Peter Bergen (now of CNN) are the two
Western journalists that got in-person interviews with bin Laden

Exactly true. The tactic is to attribute a lie to your opponent as liberals did to the Republicans so they can descredit them on the issue of Saddam regime strong relation to Al Qaeda and other terrorist groups. Imagine that in 2003 the President came forth and said we have absolute proof that Saddam regime met with Bin Laden and Zawahiri, the war would have had much more support then and now.
