...the French experiment does. Among many other benefits, the government provides an extensive, free child care system where parents can leave children on a moment's notice

Wow, free French government daycare. I'd sooner leave my kids with Michael Jackson.

Anyone who wants to pretend that we still live in an agricultural-based economy is free to do so, and live by the rule books developed in that age.

This topic was started up to blast someone who is dealing with current realities on whether or not to have children. She's making that decision for herself, I really don't see her making any statements about what other people want to do in regard to having a bunch of kids.

But thanks for the ping, anyway.

Idiocracy wasn’t a comedy, it was a documentary. Mike Judge is a genius!

“Cuz government doesn’t set prices for private property.”

Just as a point of clarification, they do drive prices of private property thru their land use restrictions. Environmentalists are a major reason that some areas of this country have real estate prices that are out of the range of an average family.

A whole host of factors influence housing prices but there is no government entity that sets pricing. Tax policy, zoning and other local matters have no bearing on Fed actions and vice sersa.

Lack of land, access to jobs and commerce, culture and activity, good schools, climate, etc are better factors of what drives people to live where.

You should read some of Thomas Sowell’s works on property prices in the Bay area of CA. You might be surprised at how much the local enviro policies have screwed the average family.

I should also say that I acknowledge that a whole host of things influence property costs, but those are market forces at work. The artificial inflation is almost always caused by bad government policies at all levels of gov’t.

I don't pretend to live in an agricultural-based economy, and my direct ancestors, as far as I have been able to trace them, were not farmers but townspeople who lived in ghettos for the most part.

I understand her sentiments but I believe she is misguided and unaware of her social responsibility.

She is dead on when explaining her view with respect to economics and taxes.

She takes a loser’s turn though when she steers her argument to ethics.

If Canadians do not replace themselves they will be supplanted by those that more than replace themselves.

And that goes for Americans too.

She should realize this and devote herself to fighting the suffocating system of taxes that forces childbirth into a category of economics rather than an experience of spiritual joy.

You take yourself much too seriously, especially when you are talking about things you know nothing about, like Judaism and Yiddish.

The very first commandment in the Bible, given to Man, was to "be fruitful, and multiply."

That command was given to Adam and Eve, not to me.

And I think you misunderstood the post. Qam posted the article... he didn't write it.

But I think that 20% figure already shows the rate of “conversion”. I know some would argue for 50% for conservatives’ kids and 0% for leftists’ kids, but it seems the survey has already taken them into account.
