The Intelligence Unit of the Economist magazine has named Norway the most peaceful country in the world.
The survey of 121 nations is backed by high profile names such as the Dalai Lama, Desmond Tutu, and Jimmy Carter.
New Zealand, Denmark, Ireland and Japan occupy the spots just back Norway. Lowest in the survey are Nigeria, Russia, Israel, Sudan and Iraq. The USA is remarkably low on the Global Peace Index, at 96th.

It is easy to be peaceful when somebody else is willing to protect you from the bullies.
You got that right!
The survey of 121 nations is backed by high profile names such as the Dalai Lama, Desmond Tutu, and Jimmy Carter.
Kiss my rear.
COMMENT:
Looks like Goobers Carter dosen’t miss an opportunity to degrade the country he once led.
These peace reports are nothing more than a bunch of Socialists race baiting bigots ideas of what feels good to their fringe ideas of right and wrong.
Will America ever recover from the mistake of electing Goobers as president.
Lets see Jimmuh where you ranked your pal Hugo Chavez.
The footprint of the American chicken inspires them. Must be nice hiding in the shadows pretending you are superior.
Personally, I’d say that conclusion sounds more fair, if we by a “peaceful place to live” mean one were ordinary people enjoy security and can build a future for themselves.
“On the basis of their study, researchers reached the following conclusions; small, stable democracies that are part of a larger regional group, such as the European Union, score well; and economic living standards, education levels and regional integration are important.”
- If the study really focused to a great deal on factors like democracy, economic living standard and education levels, it seems strange that the US would receive such a low score.
“You can have peace, or you can have freedom. Don’t ever expect both at once.” —Robert A. Heinlein
- I know of no other former world leader (or leader of any other nation at all for that matter) who seems to enjoy defaming his own country like Mr Carter does.
As I’m not American, it’s not my business, but I can tell you there are lots of Americans I’m more impressed with, like Ronald Reagan for instance.
Damn I wish all the libs will read this and move to Norway. It is a great place...if you like 70% taxation, 6 bucks for a short beer and reindeer steaks.
Reagan on the other hand was held in very high regards.
Perhaps The US is one of the few countries in the world where Jews can live more or less without fear for their personal security.
In my country, Sweden, right wing extremists used to attack Jews every now and them, but lately they seem to have turned against the Muslims to a larger degree.
There was actually some cooperation between Neo Nazis and Muslims 15-20 years ago in Sweden, but today this is not the case any longer. Presently it seems like Communists and Muslims get along better than Muslims and Nazis...
“When I lived down in South America most of the business people of the country thought Carter was a wimp and had very little respect for him.
Reagan on the other hand was held in very high regards.”
- It’s possible that Carter meant something to the slightly improved relations between Egypt and Israel in the late 1970’s, but in general, a president like Ronald Reagan has meant much more to world peace and improved living conditions. Both in the US and abroad.
As a European, I feel gratitude towards Reagan and against the US.
Please don’t forget there are millions and millions of people in Europe who view The US as the best partner on the global arena we could ever have!
Best of regards.

Well, that is certainly misnamed.
That’s because everyone expects us to do their dirty work.
Sometimes I wish we would just pop up and say, we are not protecting anything but our own shores anymore. I know it’s not possible, but it would be fun to see everyone else scramble.
Looks like Goobers Carter dosent miss an opportunity to degrade the country he once led.
You mean GOEBBELS Carter.
I'm telling Santa!
The UK is 18th - excellent.
Who wants to win the Global Pussy Rating! :)
I want the other guy to be more afraid of me that I of him.
Then and only then will I feel secure.
“I’m telling Santa!”
Most reindeer and moose do not experience Scandinavia as a peaceful place.
Pray for Rudolf.
“It is easy to be peaceful when somebody else is willing to protect you from the bullies.”
And you also get to maintain a token military.....like Canada.
I am ashamed that I convinced others that this inane piece of communist garbage deserved to be our POTUS.
I have friends living in Venezuela who are going out of their minds wondering what the future will hold for them and their families.
Carter is responsible for Hugo Chavez and the list is to long to print.
Carter is soon to meet his Maker and I wouldn’t be at all surprised that the Maker has horns.

This gentleman would beg to differ.
Nice image.
Another example of non-peaceful ‘Norsemen’ were the brave Norwegians who were rather successful in stopping the Nazi invasion given the very limited military resources they disposed of, as Norway, just like Denmark, had been disarming itself for years prior to WW2 - despite having neighbors like Hitler and Stalin.
The invasion was successful in the end, but it took the Nazis two months to gain control of Norway. Of the countries Hitler invaded, only The Soviet Union lasted longer.
Too bad most Norwegians have become post modern selfish brutes.
“Too bad most Norwegians have become post modern selfish brutes.”
- While that might be true, to a certain extent, I still must say I’ve met a lot of decent folks from Norway.
