A city councilman expressed outrage today that the council will consider a proclamation initially drafted by a protest group that calls for restricting police tactics during the 2008 Democratic National Convention in Denver.
The one-page proclamation headed for a council vote next Monday is based on a compromise version of the original statement proposed by the Recreate 68 Alliance, which is organizing protests for the 2008 Denver convention.
The group's Web site vows to make Chicago's 1968 Democratic National Convention — notorious for its brutal, bloody clashes between Chicago police and anti-Vietnam War protesters — "look like a small get-together in 2008!"
"I think it's amazing that any can special interest group — right-wing or left-wing — can tell the Denver Police Department and the mayor and City Council how to run our city when it comes to dealing with the protesters at the DNC," Councilman Charlie Brown said, adding he "absolutely" opposes the proclamation.
The draft proclamation urges respecting the constitutionally protected rights of free speech, association and assembly and "welcomes demonstrators with the same respect and honor accorded to convention delegates."

I honestly think that Daley’s execution of the martial law order “Shoot to kill arsonists shoot to maim looters” is the gold standard on why people vote for his son.
They can gather and protest all they want, but since when can they beat up on other people? I’m all for them wasting each other, but not innocent people.
The ‘68 convention fiasco is a prime reason why they lost so badly in the Presidential election.

It’s amazing that in the four months that I was away, NOTHING has changed. The Rats are as anti American as ever, the ROP is still wanting to take over the world by sword (or bomb), and a good portion of our politicians, on both sides, want to turn the United States of America into a Third World Country!

These people are scary. As one who lived through and watched the Democrat convention in 1968 I can tell you Denver does not want to experience this.
Yes, these people will prove once again how radical Democrats are but the price of that exposure is high for a city that is not as large as Chicago. Heaven help us if these jerks get what they want.
The Denver police can handle it, the question is whether or not the politicians will allow us to stop this or defend ourselves?

I remember the Seattle eco-riots where the lefties smashed doors and windows of ground floor businesses. What they did not steal, they trashed, or set on fire.
I remember "'68" and it wasn't pretty and it wasn't romantic. I find "recreate '68" a threat to public safety.

The police chief was later fired for believing the political pc agenda ?
I don't know what "Hick" will do. So far, he's backed DPD critics more than he backs the Department. OTOH, he will be under intense pressure from the DNC not to allow another '68 - because it would be a PR disaster.

Denver police “can” handle it, the problem is “will” they and “will they be allowed” to do their job.
In a city where illegal alien felons are released by the police now, I’m not convinced Denver has the will to enforce any laws.
