Didn’t Sharon Stone take her husband to visit one at the zoo for a birthday present—husband got a bad bite on the foot from it. Seems like their marriage soon broke up after that.

Komodo mating season is May-August with males becoming more aggressive and territorial. The boy's urine, which Komodos can smell with their tongue, may have further aggravated this Komodo.
These lizards are not predictable and can move suddenly, inflicting a lethal bite and mauling the victim with their sharp claws.
IMO, permitting an 8-year-old to be anywhere near them or to stray unsupervised into Komodo territory is criminally irresponsible. But many adults who should know better seem oblivious to the danger. In some zoos, children are actually allowed to pet these reptiles. Just unbelievable.
