Sixth Salt Man Discovered in Chehr-Abad Mine

04 June 2007

Chehr Abad Saltman No. 2.

LONDON, (CAIS) -- The sixth salt man was discovered in Chehr-Ābād Mine in Zanjan City. It is likely that a large number of salt men were buried in Chehr-Ābād Salt Mine, said Farhang Farokhi head of Zanjan Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization (ZCHTO).

Five previous discovered salt men are being kept in Washhouse Museum , he added.

Based on previous reports, Chehr-Ābād Mine had been used from the Achaemenid dynastic era (550-330 BCE) up to the early of the Sassanid dynasty (224-651 CE).

The first salt man was discovered in Zanjān’s Chehr-Ābād salt mine by accident by the miners in 1993. More than a decade later in November 2004, the body of the second salt man was discovered in the same salt mine. The year 2005 was the year of salt men discoveries and bodies of the third, fourth, and fifth salt mummies were unearthed in January, March, and December 2005.

These salt men are among rare mummies discovered around the world that are mummified as a result of natural conditions. Since the salt men have been buried in salt for centuries, most of their tissues are well preserved. Special conditions of the salt mine which prevented the activities of micro-organisms caused the excellent preservation of organic and inorganic materials in the mine.

Tests carried out by Oxford University Radiocarbon Accelerator Unit (ORAU) on the remains and clothing of first and second saltmen, C14 assigned date to the late Parthian dynastic era (1745 BP). The remains of other three saltmen known by numbers 3, 4 and 5, which were also victims of collapsed tunnels C14 testing have placed them in post-Achaemenid period (2245 BP).

I wasn’t aware that salt would preserve DNA. It seems that they would have to destroy a large portion of the sample at first glance, I could be mistaken.

BP = Before present, sometimes written as BPE (E = era). Used to avoid referring to AD/BC. BP(E) refers to BC.

I’m sure folks using a different arbitrary dating system are impressed.

Dating things from a world influencing geological event would make more sense.

I believe that BP should only be used when radio-carbon dating and or thermoluminecent testing. As an archaeologist, while BCE and BP are polite, we are the only ones who use them and other cultures use their own anyways so ho are we trying not to offend with using BC and AD?

Before Paris.

In the era of gynecological time lines, science typically divides modern times and old times into two. The old days are those when women were not considered trophies and were actually somewhat smarter than depicted in pop culture horror movies. These women of old typically did not have artificial breasts or modified hair color. They generally married only once in their lifetime and actually had a modicum of respect for the man whose name they took as their own in the ceremony once known as a wedding. This ceremony generally took place at some point during the females’ fertile years and she was actually bound by the vows she took in this ceremony to conceive children only by the man she was wed to in said ceremony. This vow was supposedly to last for the woman’s lifetime.

After Paris, the rules were changed. The standards for women’s intelligence were greatly reduced. Women were no longer expected to adhere to their wedding vows. Women were only respected for their appearance regardless of the authenticity of their biological reproductive attributes. A whole medical industry sprang up that specialized in the artificial augmentation of female secondary reproductive health attributes. These being primarily breasts, lips, hips, and hair. Children were suddenly secondary in importance to the woman’s physical attributes as just described. In fact, since child bearing is actually destructive to a woman’s secondary reproductive health attributes, they(children) became a liability to a woman’s long term financial success in a post Paris world. In this post Paris world, females discovered that is was to their best interest to get pregnant very early in life by as many males as possible so as to qualify for state aid in child rearing. Then, when the children were of age to fend for themselves, the females would distance themselves from their offspring and begin their personal lives anew by way of government assistance, alimony, pell grants, and the like and build up an impressive resume of scholastic achievement via social assistance. The children that these women abandoned were taught from an early age that their fathers were meaningless and socially irrelevant, thus perpetuating the cycle of post Paris female false aggrandizement and degradation.
