As the Republican primary debates trudge on, second-tier contenders are still emerging from early campaign darkness. But while this break in the clouds gives hope to a couple of candidates -- it sets back even further those who have yet to stand out. How many more debates can Jim Gilmore, Sam Brownback and Tommy Thompson participate in before they fade-out?... ....Duncan Hunter had several moments in last nights debate that could promote his lower-tier status sooner rather than later. His experience in foreign policy, national defense and his stance on immigration has previously been impressive but Hunter stepped up his game last night through talking points.

Interesting note. On H&C last night, Ann Coulter all but tossed her support behind Hunter. colmes response "Like that's gonna happen."
We’re still almost seven months out from votes being cast. Hunter needs to get more name recognition. Hell, if a peanut farmer from Georgia could get elected in 1976, Hunter surely has as good a chance as any in 2008.
Yah, I was pleased that Coulter is a Hunter supporter. Coulter makes me laugh, agree, or cringe, but never nod off or change the channel. I gave Hunter a contribution a couple months ago; people should do the same. The main stream media shouldn’t decide our nominees for us by ignoring the true conservatives.
Way to go Annie!
colmes response "Like that's gonna happen."
I'm convinced Colmes is an alien!
Hopefully the public will get more interested soon and the “toy matinée” that has been the Republican, and Democratic, debates will propel men like Hunter to the front.
The battle cry;
“I think we need to move away from the Kennedy Wing of the Republican Party.” DH 6/5/07
One quibble with your post: Hunter needs to HAVE more name recognition.
The fact that he is a unknown is on him; he never did enough to become well known enough to become a “contendah”.
And being one out of 435 members of the house is being a light weight in terms of resume for the office of president since few of the unwashed masses can recall the name of their own congressman.
It’s interesting how much attention Duncan Hunter and Ron Paul are getting online. If you ignore the internet, they both rate way down in the polls/opinions, but once you poke around online, they both shoot to the top. They could take a few lessons from Howard Dean - as nutty and liberal as he is, he managed to maneuver himself into a position that he otherwise wouldn’t have been able to reach, in part through the use of the internet. I still maintain that 2008 will be the first time we truly see the internet come into its own.
I keep telling everyone here, this is the key: "Kept attacking Democrats"
WHOEVER does this the best---and does not attack other Republicans, even Pres. Bush---will win this hands down.
And despite Mitt's good answers, note that he's still on defense. You cannot get the nomination playing defense. EVERY question must be turned to an attack on DEMOCRATS. EVERY QUESTION
The trouble is the RNC is aiding and abetting them. Hunter was the most capable warrior on that stage.
Fred Thompson is smart staying away from these leftist nutjobs the RNC hacks in D.C. are letting run our campaign. They arent running his.
War on Terror? The Mexicans are not on our side and never have been. Think about that one.
Naturally, Colmes doesn’t want that to happen. I’m sure he said that with a bit of nervousness in that they don’t want these influential conservatives to get Duncan Hunter’s name out there. Good for Ann, good for Laura Ingraham who don’t just disparage this great man and his chances. People need to take a look at him because he is what the GOP has long needed.
Chairman of the Armed Services Committee is not just ‘one out of 435 members’ and he is nowhere near being a lightweight! Gravitas does not come from Hollyweird.
That's Great !! So now, Laura Ingraham and Ann Coulter are both on Duncan's side. If he can just keep hanging in there, this has got to help his campaign begin to snowball.
Naturally, Colmes doesn’t want that to happen..........
Kid ourselves not, the mediacrats know who Duncan Hunter is and fear him greatly. Why, because they know he means what he says, which is poison to them but sweet wine to the truth-starved!
Don’t put too much faith in the polls either. They are smart enough to know that if Duncan starts to show gains, there will be a perceived momentum that they will be desperate to stop at some point.
All the attributes of greatness reside in this man! He is ours for the taking!
Yes, I think Representative Hunter would be the best choice for a president who will defend our nation. I think that he has the firmest grasp on defense matters both at the policy level and at the implementation level.

My opinion of Bill Bennett slipped to a new low this AM when he had Fred Thompson on for two segments. I heard nary a word about Duncan Hunter, who, IMHO sprinted ahead of the pack last night, slip from his lips. Because I cannot tolerate Thompson’s folksy intonations, I shut my radio off before he came on.
>...these lefitst nutjobs the RNC hacks in D.C. are letting run our campaign.<
They are running the debates, anyway. SEND THE RNC NO MONEY. DONATE DIRECTLY TO THE CANDIDATE OF YOUR CHOICE.
And hopefully, that will be Duncan Hunter.
I will support Hunter (already sent him some dough), Thompson, Tancredo, Huckabee, and maybe even Romney (I am a little ambivalent about him).
McCain and Julie-Annie will only get a vote with my feet for the GOP.
Hunter Ping...
“SEND THE RNC NO MONEY. DONATE DIRECTLY TO THE CANDIDATE OF YOUR CHOICE. And hopefully, that will be Duncan Hunter.”
Bingo!
WE need to choose the candidate - not the RNC!
“On H&C last night, Ann Coulter all but tossed her support behind Hunter.”
Laura Ingraham likes him, too, and she helped Senator Thune get elected.
Hunter is about as clean as they come and the media wants dirt that can be used at some point. That’s one reason I don’t trust ANY of the media darlings.
Of the big three, Romney is the only one I think I could live with. Definitely not McCain.
On their merits, I’m liking Romney and Hunter. I hope Romney is for real. He comes across as sharp and nice, and says the right things. I see him as having a better chance of gliding past the media than other conservatives.
Actually, this compilation of Bennett’s interview with Fred was quite good.

Thompson and Hunter would make a very compatible team.
I agree. I was only 16 then but I followed politics somewhat. I remember in early ‘76 everyone was SURE that Jerry Brown was going to be the democrat nominee. Just like everyone is SURE that Guiliani and Clinton are going to be it for ‘08. Too bad everyone forgets about those primary doohickies.
I like Hunter and I like Fred.I will support either if they win the nomination. In the meantime I support Fred in the primary.
We have primaries so the base can campaign and vote for their choices. Hopefully we can do that by “accentuating the positives” without throwing dirt.
Did not get to see the debate last night, but sure do like what I'm reading!
Tagline already!
Colmes: Guess what. It’s gonna happen. Believe it.
Excellent
>....if a peanut farmer from Georgia could get elected in 1976, Hunter surely has as good a chance as any in 2008.<
Well, 30 years ago, the far left didn’t have the complete control it now enjoys over the MSM. The Internet helps some, but there is no substitute for living color. Let’s help Rep. Hunter get enough together for a few TV spots, and the money should start pouring in for him.
http://www.goduncanhunter08.com. $$$$$$$ Thank you.
To see Duncan Hunter in last night’s debate, go to Duncan Hunter at New Hampshire GOP Debate, and hit LINK in Post #1.
You know why? Because Hunter is a tough looking real man’s man. He shoots straight and gives solutions, not hyperbole.
Welcome to FR!
That’s quite a military history on your home page.
Thank you for your service.
Yes, it is critical that Representative Hunter get as much money as early as he can. Anyone interested in contributing can do so online at https://contribute.gohunter08.com/.
Did you see this ad?
http://www.wheresthefence.com/
YOu are not only a nebee to FR but brand new to politics.
YOur comments about Hunter could only come from someone with no knowledge and wants to knowledge about Hunter.
Very early this morning on FOX they played the ad.
A real hoot.
Laura Ingraham played the sound clip from it.
Glad to have you aboard, but don’t fall off your kiddie car.
Hmmm... quite a few newbies since the bannings.
Don’t count him out.
Yes, sounds like a retread comment from a former FReeper
I am totally for Duncan Hunterâs politics; his views are 100% correct in my view. Having the right politics is not enough! Realistically, he has no demonstration of executive ability on his resume so his capacity to run the huge and bloated fedgov is uncharted waters. We have seen the nasty effects of executive incompetency and we cannot possibly risk any more of that; lest the enemy party capture the next generation and ruin the nation. Duncan is my choice for VP hands down, he does not now have enough personal preparation for the top job.
Its got a hemi... so my feeties don’t get tired at the peddles.
IMHO...one of the few times Alan Colmes has been right about something.
