"He was surprised by the reaction," Mr. Snow said of Mr. Bush's speech in Glynco, Ga., last week. "The speech in Georgia was, 'We've got a serious problem and we need to fix it.' It was not in any way designed to be pointed at Republicans." But conservative opponents of a Senate immigration bill supported by Mr. Bush reacted furiously to the president's suggestion that they are resorting to scare tactics by using the word "amnesty" in referring to the measure that would allow millions of illegal aliens to remain in the United States.

Maybe
Keep the letter and emails and phone calls rolling in folks. They are hearing us.!
Well I am cuprised that he is so out of touch with the base.
We sonservatives don’t take kindly to being insulted...
He’s either way TOO insulated from REAL America - or he has another agenda...
If so, I can guess why. Click here for what I suspect is the reason.
Are you series? this is hugh.
What’s a sonservative?
I hope everyone tears him a new one on this issue.
Judges were done OK.
The war is being done OK IMO.
The economy is being done OK.
His immigration deal and prescription meds deal are both disasters that will bring down his memory and perhaps our country as we once knew it.
There is only one form of “amnesty” I would go along with.
If the illegal goes home and gets in line behind everyone already waiting to come in the legal way, then I’ll forgive them for having come in illegally the first time.
I’d even be willing to give them a six month time limit to leave. After that time, if we find them here, they should be deported and BARRED FOREVER from any possibility of living here.
I know ... I know ... too generous. But I’m a “compassionate conservative.”
That was right on and way too cool!
Its already done. spp.gov. He really doesn’t need our help.
rough night tonight mr.edd?
If he was truly unaware at our rage on this issue, then either his advisers suck, or he’s really blind to his own supporters.
Mr. President... You’d better @#$%^& believe it!!!!
He doesn't need anybody...he's a limp ... er lame ... duck.

I'm starting to wonder about Bush. He can't seriously be surprised that conservatives believe in the rule of law and secure borders.
It’s both, IMO.
Very poorly advised. The man is famous for being loyal to his staff, but needs to do some pruning.
It’s one of the problems of living in the White House bubble. POTUS is surrounded by yes men and doesn’t have any contact with the ‘real world.’ It’s not unlike ‘41’ going to the supermarket and being shocked at the scanner.
He was also shocked last November because his team assured him (and us) that they would pull out the ‘06 election.
Unfortunately Members of Congress live in a bubble as well.
I’d like President Bush or my pathetic excuse(s)for Senator(s) to spend one day in the world of their average constituent. They would sooner have a photo op or make a headline spending a day living on welfare or with the homeless to experience their lifestyles. If they were to spend a day with a real average, native-born, hard-working constituent family, their staffs (not them) would carefuly chose to fit a demographic, based on a focus group.
At the end of the day, I am NOT on the same team with Bush.
” Whats a sonservative? “
Sort of like a conservative, only shinier.
The only thing you need to know Jorge is that, if Eleanor Clift agrees with you, you are screwing up BIG TIME! Just say NO to Shamnesty!
Poor Jorge....he was born weeth a seelver phoote en hees mouf.
That's political power speak for "Where the f**K you conservatives going to go?"
I don’t even want to get started on the other disappointments... such as campaign finance...
I think it's a male offspring of a servative.
You had to be there to witness the birth of the FR lingo.
I understood him perfectly.
maybe they stuned your beeber.
How friggin' tone deaf can this Administration be?
ENFORCE THE BORDER FIRST. FORGET THIS "ALL OR NOTHING COMPREHENSIVE" APPROACH. IT SMACKS OF AMNESTY, OR WHATEVER ELSE YOU WANT TO CALL IT.
Please. For the good of the country and the rest of your term.
I think it’s the latter. He’s totally disconnected from his base (his former supporters). It kind of reminds me of Nixon’s last days before he resigned. Not that there’s a chance that Bush will resign.
That’s it. I thought there were more “legislators” in DC out of touch with the rest of America and now my President! Is there anyone in DC who DOES NOT have his head stuck up his ass?
Does anyone our there feel like they have been left out in the cold. I mean while everyone officially that is, Jeb Bush, etc. are signing on to the immigration bill, does anyone feel like there is something we don’t know?
For example, why the heck are they doing this?
The reform that is needed is reform in application by functionaries in Washington. When it is illegal immigrants that suffer rather than victims of illegal immigrant uninsured traffic homicides, then we can have some reform.
When it is illegal immigrants that suffer from committing felonies including murder instead of citizens seeing these people repeat and escalate, then we can reform.
We are a nation of generous people, but we are generous when we aren't being robbed.
When illegal immigrants suffer from the healthcare costs instead of taxpayers, health providers and bystanders, then we can have reform.
Plain innovation to give new laws to be unenforced and screwed up by functionaries is not the answer.
George, do your damn job or resign. I helped organize three large public protests of over one hundred on three successive weeks to support your election. You are violating your oath of office and making me regret my actions.
“He was surprised by the reaction,”
Maybe he is as dumb as they have been saying..I live in NY City and I have been in fights for 6 years supporting Bush in a city that is full of Liberal Nuts .Now he stabs me in the back , calls me a racist and now he’s surprised that we’re pissed? Horsesh*t I say ..We’re all getting taken to the cleaners BIG TIME . NO ONE represents me anymore.
We have to fight this amnesty bill even if it means taking to the streets . I swear this is the beginning of Socialism in America if this passes
He thinks like Juan Williams does, “Who gonna cut the grass and do all of this laundry?”
This is class issue too, between us common people and the elites. We cut our grass and wash our own clothes.
I think Teve Torbes is a sonservative.
GW is also a puppet.
I think he needs a shower....with a cheese eating moose...but NOT with his sister. :)
Did he just this instant wake up and shake himself out of a cartoon fantasy world?
I am finally starting to understand Bush Derangement Syndrome.
I went through Senator Kennedy’s idiotic speech on the Senate floor, argued it point by point, then faxed it to him, my two “Senators,” and my “Representative.” You are right - keep those cards and letters going! Inundate them with emails and phone calls! Time for action before they completely ruin this country!
Eef I can get cheep enuf trabajadores, jo can cut joor throat....eekonomikally...
Jo weel haf all joor stuff!!.....es really seempel.
Nope :)
I have been flamed all night by some for daring to ask this question.
To some, we are supposed to just believe it is the right thing to do because Bush cares. To question this is unpatriotic.
Be careful for daring to really seek to know why. LOL!
'Scuze me, but shouldn't it be 'soup rice'?
W has always wanted amnesty and he was unsuccessful in 06. Here with a liberal congress he’s trying it again.
Why else try to do it in the cover of the night?
