Prior to this most recent uproar I’ve never heard her making any specifically Hispanic comments.
That’s why I’m so disappointed.
I’ve heard her discuss the issue twice since her infamous column, and each time her primary focus is on the rhetoric on the other side she finds so offensive.
Some here have stated that they are offended by being called “bigots.” I am myself.
Is it such a stretch to see that someone of Hispanic ancestry might be at least equally offended by references to “20 million Mexican criminals,” when most illegal immigrants are not evil people, just people trying to make a living?

However, some facts remain, despite how much you may hate them.
There is some number of people adamantly in favor of the bill, and some number adamantly opposed. Nothing you or anyone else can say or do will sway those in either group to change.
Then there are those in the middle, who are either undecided or can possibly be convinced to change their minds. You win by convincing more of this group to move in your direction than move in the other.
Excessive rhetorical flourishes, especially those that can be perceived as racist or “mean-spirited,” may go down well with those who are already on your side, but I can guarantee you they will influence some unknown percentage of the waverers to vote the other way.
So do you want applause from those already on your side, or do you want to defeat the bill? Your choice.
I find it fascinating that since I contend that certain tactics are counter-productive, it means I must be a liberal.
