Note to MNJohnnie: Stop the name calling on this thread.

Ditto to that. Emotions are running high, but there is no call for that.

Calling people names just weakens your argument, anyway. I have yet to see anybody on FR intimidated because somebody else called them names.

I agree that the votes for impeachment are not there at this point.

However, IMO, Bush has committed impeachable acts, as I posted above. If the political will were there to impeach, I would not defend him.

The thing I do not understand is that there is very simple path(s) for him to get what he wants and us to get what we want. Close down the F’n border and start a guest worker program. Just don’t make law breakers automatic citizens. They can get in line like everybody else and do it the right way. I have several Hispanics who work for me. They came here illegally as children and worked their asses off to become legal. They are more pissed about instant citizenship than I am.

Some UGLY realities for the GOP RINO’s here.....

1. Jorge Bush is a lame-duck president who can’t do anything but give you back-slaps. He has no mandate on this issue. NONE. Bush has now lost almost all politcal support. The only supporters he has left are the radical moderates.

2. The public is DEAD-SET AGAINST this bill. We want the immigration problem fixed. But we aren’t stupid. This bill won’t fix the things that are broken. In fact, this bill makes them worse. The public wants the borders secured and the current laws enforced BEFORE we do anything else.

3. It is OBVIOUS to us that the ones supporting this bill are trying to deliver a political payoff. A Rasmussen poll showed that by a nearly 2-1 margin the voters opposed this bill. So, why are about 10-15 Senators from both sides fighting to get this passed like they are on the beach on D-Day? M-O-N-E-Y. It is CLEAR that big business and lobbyists are promising money in some form to these politicians.

TIME you might actually learn how politics works in this country?

What you don't get is that many of us are sick of politics and would like Statesmanship instead. The President can shove his politics.

I agree with you about the FDR period. I thought there might be a small one in the 90's but Clinton made sure that wouldn't happen.

I have wondered for sometime when the Black community was going to wake-up and realize that all of their entitlements were/are being sucked up by Hispanics. I currently believe that at some point in the not to distant future there will be inner city Black/Hispanic violent conflicts - not just drug and gang stuff but organized hit squads to take out the other side. We shall see, but the usual race pimps on the Black side have been very quite as of late - doesn't add up.

I was reading a post about someone who had been here illegally about 20 years. Why? This person had a chance to get legal the last round. The sad thing is that the president probably could get his work program if he wasn’t so high handed “my way or the high way” about it. All most people want is a fence and support of the border control first. Big business could still get their help, legally and registered. Why they want to make this so complicated and give the country away, makes no sense to me.

You haven’t seen earmarks until you see those that start getting doled out to buy votes to get shamnesty passed.

The taxpayer cookie jar will be wide open now with both Bush and Reid having to rescue their reputation and get that Republican cheap labor and Democrat voter bloc.

I suspect that the more complicated it is the more money lawyers and race pimps make. There is no need for the convoluted mess this thing was - - unless of course you have another agenda.

The thing I do not understand is that there is very simple path(s) for him to get what he wants and us to get what we want. Close down the F’n border and start a guest worker program.

I've come to a very startling realization that Bush doesn't want to shut down the flow. Period. He has some agreement with Fox. I think he has made a deal with Fox to let the US accept the migration out of Mexico in order let the Mexican government stabilize. INSANELY stupid policy, but it is the only thing I can see.

Just don’t make law breakers automatic citizens. They can get in line like everybody else and do it the right way. I have several Hispanics who work for me. They came here illegally as children and worked their asses off to become legal. They are more pissed about instant citizenship than I am.

I don't have much sympathy for the illegals. As far as I'm concerned, no illegal should ever be able to gain citizenship and voting rights. NEVER. A solution to let them go back, apply, come here documented, PAY TAXES AND CONTRIBUTE TO THE SYSTEM is doable. If a man is willing to work, then a solution can be found.

But, I believe that the public has had enough of the lawlessness. IF we are going to be a nation of laws, then at some point people have to start abiding by them. This may just be the last straw.

Calm down, MNJohnnie.

This is not the end of the world. Cutting your own grass and cleaning your own toilet is good exercise and enobling work. And soon you might be able to find a parking spot at the 7-11 when you go to buy your Slurpee.

It is the need to be “comprehensive” that has killed the efforts.

I think if the following measures were proposed in isolation, each would garner enough support to pass:

1. Real border security
2. ID cards and registration including biometrics for all aliens
3. Guest worker program
4. Path to citizenship that does not reward lawbreakers

If all of these things were passed, you would have comprehensive reform. The problem is that when you glomm them together, the people who support one will not support another, and nothing gets done.

Furthermore, people have seen the US government be so irresponsible and negligent in this field for so long, they don’t trust them with something so complicated as comprehensive reform. However, I think they can be convinced to trust the government if they try to do little things, one at a time, in a transparent manner.
