Get off your soap box Johnnie. Many of us here voted for Bush twice and are now sick and tired of his attempts to hurt this country with pandering the Mexicans. He should tell Fox et al to fix their own economy so they illegals won’t come here. You need to wake up!

Citizenship should be reserved for those people who bring special talents to the country's needs. Guest workers come do their job and leave. The idea of permanent guest workers is ludicrous. Any permanent job should be done by American citizens. Employers of guest workers should be made to furnish proof of medical insurance for their workers so as not to pass these costs on to the taxpayers. We have enough welfare recipients, we do not need to be importing them.

Fellow FReeper sentis1 summed up what is actually going on here rather well a few days ago...

The Senate looks across the border to Mexico and wants what they see there a political system based on graft and curroption. A system of Lords who rather than elected are chosen by birth out of a ruling class and then forced upon the people in curropt elections. The politicos like what they see mexican politicians who are Royalty and above the common people. That is what they want here thats why they are trying so hard to tunr the USA into mexico.

For a more detailed analysis, see this thread:

Immigration and Usurpation - Real reason why your Senator wants this immigration amnesty bill

It's getting too close to the next elections for it to be brought up again.

I'm not really sure about that. They want this amnesty really badly. We're going to have to be on guard against them pulling something like they did when they passed the 1986 victim disarmament act. There were only 5 senators present when a call for a voice vote was made.

How about a path to citizenship for people who come here legally wanting to be citizens. I hear that’s a big mess.

Is it your position that Islamic terrorists are NOT crossing the border into the U. S.?

That’s the issue that for the very most part is new since 1986.

the White House is still 100% committed to getting this bill passed

WHY?? Why does he want to legalize criminals which will eventually allow them to vote in a liberal with a landslide? Is Bush really a liberal? Has he gone to the dark side recently or has he been there all along? Are businesses paying him THAT much money to get their slave labor kept in the USA? It's unbelievable. I am really hating that man.

Folks are really trying to be civil with you, but you are having nothing to do with it.

Actually, the post that you replied to was pretty civil, didn't call anybody names, and merely pointed out that the hyperventilating whining posts calling for Bush's impeachment, in the wake of victory, makes people sound a bit childish and stupid. He is right. While some of his earlier posts on this thread were unduly abrasive, he is raising a good point. If this is how whiny some people sound after a victory, imagine how they would sound after losing a battle in the congress.

“Harry Reid pointed out yesterday that when cloture failed the first time, his phone wasn’t ringing off the hook to “get the bill passed”.”

UNDERSTATEMENT OF THE YEAR

And possibly the first time I’ve ever considered something he said to be truthful. What a shallow soul, what a sad fraud of a man, that millions would know he is such a liar.

It’s not over, but we just took the ball for an 80 yard touchdown drive all on the ground to start the game. How long till football season?

Great analogy. Now, if you had driven the ball 80 yards down the field on the ground, how silly would your team look if everyone on the team took to the airwaves before even lining up for the next kickoff and complained that the opponent was bumping the receivers downfield during the drive and was probably going to commit several illegal blocks in the back on the ensuing kickoff return.

The mere fact that last night at the very least STALLED the effort to allow 20 million illegals a “pathway to citizenship”...and more importantly voting rights is all that matters.

IMO, that’s a naive position.
