Congress doesn't like General Pace and let Gates know in no uncertain terms that if he were renominated to serve as CJCS again that his confirmation would be bloody.

Gates caved to political pressure.

Gee, maybe Pace thought the border could be secured, or some other dangerous idea like that....

Yeah, Gates looks like a thoroughly whipped dog. He can’t even look the reporters in the eye when he’s responding to their questions. Something is definitely wrong here...

the question then is..does congress think Pace too soft or too tough. The 2nd question is then, who ?

Gates said it. He said his intention had been to nominate both the chairman and vice chair for another term- and when he began discussing it with Congress- he was told it would become a VERY contentious process in confirmation hearings...so..Gates basically decided to let Congress have their way and he’s replacing them.

If true, you see what giving an inch gets us.

They hated Rumsfeld and demanded his head. Bush gave it to them. That led them to demand Gonzalez’ head, which Bush did not give them. Now they’ve thrown a shot-acoss-the bow before a confirmation hearing to intimidate a man who has done a good job and who is already up-to-speed on all that has been and is happening.

The Dhims are willing to destroy the country for their own power.

Agreed...I can't help but think that Murtha and the move to bring up the Haditha Marines on charges may have had something to do with it. I can't believe General Pace was going along with the way this is being handled.

The Bush Admin doesn't want to antagonize the Senate Dems by fighting for Pace. You see, they need to preserve that alliance as long as they think there is a chance to get the amnesty bill passed.

These guys are sinking lower and lower with each passing day. I used to mock the cars going by me with "January 20th, 2009" bumper stickers. I don't any longer.

Pray for Fred.

I wonder if it was part of the “ grand deal” struck by the few and the White House.

The real reason the libs don't like Pace is because a while back, he stated that he believes that open homosexuals don't belong in the military.

Is Pace the one who said homosexuality was not compatible with the military? If so then perhaps Ted Kennedy told Bush to can him, and since Bush takes his orders from The Swimmer, he complied.

Right after the failure of the White House to get its immigration bill passed in the Senate could it possible the bill might be voted on again in the next few days with a little more support?
