Based on what Gates said, Pace is being forced out because of Senators who would make a “very contentious process” out of the confirmation hearing of a nomination for a second term.

Gates is saying that the Vice Chairman faced the same kind of confirmation process “that would not be in the best interests of the country”.

Uh huh. My bullsh*t meter just maxed out. If this were remotely true then that would mean: A) that the Bush administration won't support it's people, and B) anyone who takes the job does so knowing that they can expect zero support from the White House.

This is result of the rotten RATS, who have succeeded in dislogding the senior uniformed leadership of our military.

Why am I not surprised

>At last count on FR he has retired 4 times and been fired 3 times

Now they're taking him
to a corn field and doing
to him what they did

to Joe Pesci at
the end of "Casino." That's
how you get "retired!"

Locked mine to this thread. Looks as if Gates caved in, but I don’t blame Gen. Pace for leaving; doubt I’d last there as my mouth would blow me away!!

Gates said it. He said his intention had been to nominate both the chairman and vice chair for another term- and when he began discussing it with Congress- he was told it would become a VERY contentious process in confirmation hearings...so..Gates basically decided to let Congress have their way and he’s replacing them.

I got the impression from what Gates was saying, i.e. "I've never backed down from a fight." that Pace maybe is the one that didn't want to go through the confirmation process? But my phone rang and I didn't get to hear the rest of it and now I'm watching the stupid Paris Hilton thing again.

Why am I not surprised

Because you know that the RATS and their RINO minions don't give a hoot about winning wars, securing our nation, and defending freedom.

Wouldn’t every Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff leave his job when his term expired?

This is a 'firing' -- courtesy of scumbag murtha and his Rat ilk.

The real reason the libs don't like Pace is because a while back, he stated that he believes that open homosexuals don't belong in the military.

I'm glad these politicians think that pandering to sexual deviants is more important than good order and discipline in the military.

I’m guessing Pace’s did not have much a Retirement Party at the office this morning.

However, his phone is now ringing with offers from publishers for Pace to write a book dogging on the President for his handling of the War in Iraq.

Pace, will be millions from a book deal and speaker fees.
