TOWN OF MIDDLETON -- The location of Rusk Gun Shop is deceiving but important.

Located across the street from Woodman's and about 100 yards off Gammon Road, the gun shop at 6904 Watts Road would appear to be in the city of Madison.

Instead, the shop is on an island of land in the town of Middleton.

It's been 33 years since the Madison City Council passed an ordinance banning the sale of handguns. A few years after the measure's approval, the gun shop moved from its Lakeside Street location across the street from Franklin Elementary School.

Opportunity for someone who can brave the dangers of the political Berkley that is Madison.

However, I thought the local ban on buying handguns was obliterated by state law in the 90’s.

Perhaps someone with more current information can correct me on this. I also thought the law to ban the sale of handguns was in 84, not 74.

Well, since the United States Constitution carries no force in the People’s Republic of Madistan, and thus there are no advocates for the Second Amendment, it’s actually a bit surprising any gun shop at all has been in the region this long.

Amazing- I was born in Madison and went to school in Middleton, graduating from high school there in 1957. My 50th reunion is at the end of this month.

Rusk has been there for years, and as far as I know, there is no law against selling guns in the state of Wisconsin. How can Madison pass such a law, and how can they enforce it in the MIddleton township? Or in the Middleton village/city?

There are hundreds of hunters in that area. This is sooooo wrong.

“I also thought the law to ban the sale of handguns was in 84, not 74.”

I’d be interested to know this, too. I was in Madistan in ‘74, but too poor even to think about buying anything more expensive than an occasional pizza. A small pizza.
