“Lost or Stolen” Firearms Bill Becomes Reality in Connecticut!

Friday, June 08, 2007

After four years of successfully keeping the “lost or stolen” firearms bill from becoming law in Connecticut, the State House caved into anti-gun rhetoric and passed Senate Bill 938.

SB 938 will make it a crime to fail to report the loss or theft of a handgun to police within 72 hours of when you “discover or should have discovered” it missing.  This law will also trigger two more investigations to determine whether or not you “should have discovered” the missing handgun and whether or not you are a “gun trafficker.”

Unfortunately, State Representative Arthur O'Neill (R-69) and Republican Minority Leader Larry Cafero (R-142) were responsible for brokering the compromise that resulted in this defeat.  However, even their compromise would not have been possible without the “yes” vote of many in the Republican caucus.

Please take the time to contact those Legislators who voted “ Yes” to turning crime victims into criminals and voice your strong disappointment in their support for this bill.  Legislators can be reached at (860) 240-0100 or for help identifying your Legislator and further contact information please click here.

To see how your Legislator voted please click here.

Also, please take a moment to call those Legislators who voted “No” and thank them for standing up for law-abiding gun owners.

To view the “debate” in its entirety, please visit http://www.ctn.state.ct.us/ (under “on demand recent additions” click on “more...” then on page 2 of the recorded events, click on House Session recorded 6/4/07.  Fast forward to 08:38:00).

Personally, decency and superstition prevents me from saying what I wish would happen to such folks.

After watching how the Boston Globe tried to smear the ex-marine that acted as a good samaritan I would be confused on whether or not I should interfere and stop the mugging from taking place.

Would I be an accessory?
Would I be liable in a lawsuit?
Would my military backround turn this into an automatic use of a deadly weapon?

This is what will cause the triumph of evil.

““should have discovered””

Thats sufficiently vague to ensure the prosecutors can make all kinds of baseless charges.

Foot in the door?! Heck, they're camping in the living room! Have been for decades. And the camel (not just his nose) has taken a dump inside the tent.

And what does this do to prevent crime? Is there ANY question now that the political agenda is to victimize gun owners?
When do we say that enough is enough? Are not all public servants sworn to uphold the constitution? Can’t we at least sue them and bury THEM in legal costs, if not outright file charges of treason?
