Okay, I wasn’t going to ask you, but I have to. Are you going to change your screen name? It’s a bummer.

See above, #29.

That's only part of it. I've come to believe there are bigger things afoot.

I think Laura Bush has his ear on this one issue: and she is standing firm on the issue from a sense of “it’s the only morally right thing to do” viewpoint.

You know, I have thought of that and just can not (at this point) see it being a case of "whatever you say hunny." He has the loss of the House and Senate to point to and tell Laura "No can do shug!"

What he is doing to the base of the Republican vote is waaaay past that.

Keep up the pressure. Tell them NO!

“It’s aliiiive! (Immigration Bill)”

Hence the listing under
KEYWORD: VAMPIREBILL
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/keyword?k=vampirebill

It’s a Vampire, Blood-Sucking Bill for legal US residents
and taxpayers.
Pushed by a lot of Used-Car Salesmen in the Senate, House
and THE White House.

(said with apologies to the ethical used-car salesmen I’ve
met in the past)

When GW leaves office, I hope I never see his face or hear about him again.

I couldn't agree more.

If it hadn't been for 9/11, this would have been the first thing he would have done as president.

My wife was going through immigration at the time (citizen now), and I vividly recall that there was an immigration brawl here on FR the very morning of 9/11/2001.

I also recall the reports that Vincente Fox was devastated by the aftereffects of 9/11, to wit, no amnesty from his buddy George.

I wish we could change our screen names. But no one would ever know who I was again, no posting history, all my FReepmails would be lost.

I never truly wanted to change it before now.

Don't be dismal. First, we can stop it again if we get on the phones again. Second, it'll still have to pass the House, so make sure to include your entire state's House delegation in your calls, regardless of district or party.

Good points. I suppose I am just SCREAMING LIVID at the current Administration for whipping the horse for the fourth time. That is a pretty clear and blatant "Up Yours" to the American Citizens.

I’m not a Bushbot. I am a realist. From the evening of the election in 2000 until this day, the President has been hammered from all sides.

His only crime being he is doing what he feels is right for this country. He has stayed with Conservates on Abortion, Stem Cells, Gay Marriage and Terri Schiavo. He nominated two Conservative Justices to SCOTUS. He gave us the largest tax decrease in history. He has taken the war on terror to the terrorists.

He wants an immigration bill. So give him one. Instead of hammering him on it, Conservatives should stop condemning and go to the media with their bill. All I see is whining about how the law needs to be obeyed. Not one Conservative has told us how we are going to get rid of almost 20 million people.

Don’t feed them and they will leave is an oversimplified solution to a big problem.

This is not over yet. Bush refuses to give up this easily. It's his stuborn character. He will try to resurect it and call it something else. We have to keep our guard up. We need to keep the pressure up.

STAGE TWO is to go after the people who hire illegals. Start giving them fines and arresting them. Just catch ten or 100 of them on the nightly news. The magnet will dry up and most of the 12 million will go home by themselves.

As an adendum, we should anonymously call the IRS, people working "off the books" means taxes ain't being paid. Make anonymous fliers and hang them around the neighborhood, name names. It's time to embarras these bustards, whether they give to the GOP or Rats, we don't need them.

STOP AMNESTY NOW!! WE CAN DO IT!!

CALL! CALL! CALL! CALL! AND KEEP CALLING TILL THE LINES FRY!

WRITE! WRITE! WRITE! WRITE! TILL YOU RUN OUT OF INK IN YOUR PEN!

Bombard the Democrats as well, especially the ones that ran on an anti illegal immigration plank and the ones in marginal districts who could be vulnerable. keep pounding on them. This is a bipartisan issue not a Conservative or Liberal issue BUT AN AMERICAN issue.

Too bad you couldn't do something like, 'the poster formerly known as...'. Oh well, as it stands, your moniker will remind us in the future of our history, and how important our involvement in our gov't is. Plus, people will KNOW you've been around a long time when they see your name! LOL.

I can’t help but wonder if he’s competing with Jimmy Carter to earn the honor of being the worst president in, at least, our lifetimes.

Competing?? With his latest comments and pathetic attitude he's already won! What a pathetic legacy to leave for future generations.

"Not one Conservative has told us how we are going to get rid of almost 20 million people."

Oh, so now there's 20 million. You mean Bush LIED when he said 12 million? Get rid of them? No, my friend, ENFORCE THE LAWS and they will slowly and gradually leave by themselves or be deported when caught violating OUR LAWS. Not sure what country you live in, but anarchy and violation of our legal system is not part of the GOP platform.

I always thought this was the way to go:

STAGE TWO is to go after the people who hire illegals. Start giving them fines and arresting them. Just catch ten or 100 of them on the nightly news. The magnet will dry up and most of the 12 million will go home by themselves.

If my father, who has run a business for 50 years, hired illegals and ran the risk of being arrested, he certainly would not have hired illegals (although, of course, he never did - he hired local kids, and paid them well.)

The President is tilting at windmills by pushing this "comprehensive reform" nonsense, and fracturing the Republican party in the process.

As to your point:
Not one Conservative has told us how we are going to get rid of almost 20 million people.

Well, I'm a conservative, and I'll offer this:

1. Secure the border first. As in really, no kidding, get control of it. 100% closure is not possible, but is not necessary -- 90% is good enough, and a combination of physical barries (ie, the fence), electronic monitoring, and law enforcement measures consistent with our values of respect for human life and dignity will do the job.

2. Deny any and all federal or state benefits, of any kind, to persons who broke the law to get here -- no more free medical care, no food stamps, no school lunch programs, nothing.

3. Deny federal monies to any state or local jurisdiction that does not report immigration status of offenders who come into contact with local law enforcment -- infractions, misdemeanors, or felonies. IE, when Deputy Dog makes a legal T-stop for, say, speeding (an infraction), and the driver has no license (a misdemeanor) because he's in the country illegally, the drill should be: hook him up, tow the car, and call ICE. ICE should be funded to have folks swing by the county lockup and ID, and deport, humanely, such voiolators, after they have paid their fines and served any applicable time.

Once the above is implemented, and is working smoothly, two things will happen: 1) the illegal population will start deporting itself and 2) we can start talking about a bunch o f other stuff like a "guest worker" program (which I oppose on humanitarian grounds, but which should be discussed), a "route to legalization" for people with jobs and roots in this country etc. etc. etc.

There is no reason at all to demand that everything be in one bill.

Great points! These are very reasonable and simple steps to follow.
