Bush has definitely gone to the dark side on this issue.

Thank you so much for your work on this effort. You and a few others deserve a lot of credit for reminding us to lean on the Senate and the WH.

Please keep me on your ping list for this initiative.

Also, thank you for your service.

Interest groups pushing for the bill said Democrats were supposed to deliver 35 votes and Republicans were supposed to deliver 25. "From our point of view we did our job, and from our point of view the Republicans didn't," said Frank Sharry, executive director of the National Immigration Forum, which wants a bill that offers a path to citizenship to illegal aliens."

Revealing that the Executive Director of the "National Immigration Forum", which I presume is registered as a non-partisan interest group, use the term "we did our job", meaning that the democrats delivered their votes. He called his group a democratic organization.

Too bad we can't use that to get their nonprofit status yanked.

What’s the EARLIEST they could re-introduce this bill? I’m thinking that if it can be delayed past the summer recess, that might finally be enough to kill it for good since that would bring it too close to next year’s elections.

Even delaying the bill now will probably do no good in the long run. IMO the damage to the Republican party has largely been done, greatly improving the odds of Dems increasing their majority in the congress. Unless we can get a tough SOB in the WH, we are in a very bad position.

Bush is attempting to commit treason on this issue. It causes me to question his motivation in all things.

You really know how to win people over to your side, huh?

Some of you need to learn that, from time to time, your congresscritter needs to be slammed against the wall, knocked the ground, and have the boots put to him so he understands he is our servant, not our master.

You must create a palpable conditioned response of dread at the mere thought of the angry voters in these spineless creatures. The conditioning should be Pavlovian. And you need to make an example of them so the rest of the herd learns the proper fear.

Angkor, I didn't either....

I don't spend my day imagining conspiracies and such...

..and least, I didn't...

You're saying....'follow the money'...

...but someone like Phyllis Schlafly (of whom I have high regard)...has started to connect the dots.

Why else would a so called conservative President who garnered support, adulation, respect from his base...

..absolutely turn on them and ignore them....
..... denigrate them/belittle them?

Delay/kill it now and forget the long run...the debate on both sides will likely be good for the strong anti Amnesty candidates and that is a good thing.for

Issue resolved.

No permanent Z visas. The bill currently allows renewal of the Z visa until death. There is no expiration date and the Z visa is effectively identical to permanent residency.

That's fundamentally contrary to George Bush's proposal in January 2004:

"The legal status granted by this program will last three years and will be renewable -- but it will have an end.... This program expects temporary workers to return permanently to their home countries after their period of work in the United States has expired.... Some temporary workers will make the decision to pursue American citizenship. Those who make this choice will be allowed to apply in the normal way. They will not be given unfair advantage over people who have followed legal procedures from the start. I oppose amnesty, placing undocumented workers on the automatic path to citizenship. Granting amnesty encourages the violation of our laws, and perpetuates illegal immigration. America is a welcoming country, but citizenship must not be the automatic reward for violating the laws of America."

I live next door in Iowa and I’ve called Hagel’s office many times. All my relatives in Omaha despise him.

If Bush did everything we wanted, but let’s say he was for embryonic stem cells, we would call him the worst President of our time.

Shouldn't you be calling for help from your possee of fellow Bushbots? That's what some of your crew have been doing in recent days.

US Chamber of Commerce as part of the groups supporting amnesty.

Have we thought about calling our local Chamber of Commerce and stating our opposition to amnesty?

Stop it. You can't be serious. You think the Democrats are going to stop this amnesty plan? They're the ones who want it. They're the ones who look at every illegal as a Democrat vote. The only RATS even attempting to look like they're against this are the few that are worrying about their reelection in their districts if they vote for this.

Make no mistake about it, Republicans are our only hope to kill this permanently.

I believe Reid would kill the bill to deny Bush the ‘victory’ he wants. Yes, I do believe that. As much as dems may want amnesty, and many of them actually don’t, they still HATE Bush more.

We need to find conservative candidates to file against all pro-amnesty senators immediately.

Hagel and Grahamnesty are our primary targets but we need to go after all the '08 incumbents who fail to stop this thing.

Is it just me, or have the Bushbots gone AWOL from FR?

Nope, not at all, just that their ranks are a little thin right now.

So the current understaffing M.O. is to have one or two pop into threads and start a ruckus, and then to CC the entire Bushbot possee on a post. Soon they'll show up and attempt a thread takeover, forcing you to say "Mr. President George W. Bush" in your posts.

For the most part they're bunkered down in the Sunday Morning Talk Show Thread. It's like the 5th dimension of unreality over there. Shameless Bushbotism, and they can't even criticize him on Amnesty because they "love him too much" (an actual quote).

There is an interesting meme they're propagating, which is that it's "our fault" (e.g., conservatives) because "we didn't give him a Congress [in 2006] which would temper his impulse toward immigration Amnesty." (That's another actual quote which I've since seen repeated by other Bushbots in other threads, as recently as Saturday)

A related variation is that it's "your fault" (e.g., people who are PO'd a GWB) because "you" didn't rid the Congress of people like Graham, Kyle, Lott, and Specter.

No matter what the twisted logic, it's entirely designed to let GWB off the hook, 100 percent.

The reality that many, many here on FR contributed substantial quantities of time, money, effort, emotion, and loyalty to GWB for BOTH elections and terms to date is completely immaterial to the irrational, unfocused, and hysterical anger the Bushbots bring with their blame game. Keep an eye open, they're still around.

I called both senators. my representative and the White House.I feel like it is a waste.I pointed out that the bill needs to stay dead. One senate staffer said that apparently the President will appear before the senate to try to breathe live into the bill.

One thing that really bugs me is that almost everybody says that it would be impossible to round up all of the illegals. Well, just how many do you think you could round up? It would be a start.
