Public School Students in New Hampshire Taken to Abortion Center

Manchester, NH (LifeNews.com) -- Parents in New Hampshire are outraged after learning that the YMCA, in partnership with a local school district, took a group of junior high school students to a Planned Parenthood abortion business. The Manchester school district has come under fire for the trip and promises students will never go there again. The Manchester school district has partnered with the YMCA to put together a program for at-risk students who are in danger of dropping out of school.

YMCA took the students to various places around town to show them summer programs and places to get involved in positive activities. However, a local Planned Parenthood was also on the list of places.

As a result, the YMCA took 41 seventh and eighth grade students last Wednesday to the abortion facility.

Mayor Frank Guinta, chairman of the city school board, told the Manchester Union Leader newspaper that he has heard from numerous parents who were upset and promised to never subject the students to a tour of an abortion center again.

"I'm extremely disappointed," he said of the YMCA trip choice. "I don't think it's appropriate for that age group, nor do I think it's appropriate for that kind of information to be disseminated to kids in that age group by a school program."

"I would expect that these types of trips won't take place in the future," he added, saying he was not aware the list of field trip destinations included Planned Parenthood.

Assistant Superintendent of Schools Frank Bass also confirmed to the Union Leader that the trip would be its first and last.

"We've talked to the YMCA and told them that in the future we're not going to visit Planned Parenthood," he said.

Anne Johnson, the Planned Parenthood staff member who spoke for three minutes to the children at the abortion center, said abortion was never discussed. However, the students encountered pro-life protesters on the way into the center and knew that's what the facility did.

But Joyce Palmer, the YMCA's community outreach director, defended the trip in comments to the newspaper.

"The intent of the day was to provide information to kids who are getting ready for the summer and won't have the support of school or at home," said Palmer. "The intent was not to take kids to an abortion clinic. That word was never said."

Dawn Michaud, principal of Parkside Middle School new about the trip beforehand and also defended the trip calling it more of a "job fair."

This resulted in a significant uproar when it was reported on the front page of the statewide paper, and the YMCA has already said that they won’t do it again.

At least a goodly number of parents were outraged. Now if they can just connect this crap with the fact that NH is turning blue and maybe some sanity can prevail at some point down the road.

Some of us are fighting back, but its gonna be an uphill battle, with Dems firmly in control of the Governors office and both branches of the Legislature.

I heard on the radio over the weekend that the Governor is going to sign a bill that will eliminate the parental notification requirement for minors seeking abortions. The Governor says that there are legal problems with the notificiation law — there is no exception for emergencies. So now, rather than fixing the law to create such an exception, they will throw the whole thing out.

Gotta love those honest, open government Democrats when they say they’re doing the right thing....

Since when is giving kids pro-murder propaganda educational? The dimwit who came up with this trip should be fired immediately.

Apparently.

I am more into eviscerating the NEA by pushing for vouchers so that the NEA government educators can no longer brainwash our youth with their propaganda and our tax dollars.

This story is a scandal, and the principal should be fired.

Ummmmmmmm... doesn't YMCA stand for Young Men's Christian Association? What were they thinking?

The intent of the day was to provide information to kids who are getting ready for the summer. "OK, seventh and eight grade girls, summer is almost here. So be sure to stock up on condoms!"

This is so over the top I can hardly believe it. Wonder who the connection was between the YMCA and PP.

I think that's fine. Let's take advantage of it--make the most of the moment.

I would argue that, to undo the damage (should I sue for mental trauma?!), it would in this rare case be entirely appropriate for a Christian to speak to the class with regard to moral values, specifically, why it is that Christians denounce abortion--because life has value, the concept of imago Dei, and all that.

Did you see how one paper covered the story?

Students run into abortion protesters,

Made it seem as the people in front of the abortion clinic were harassing the kids.

Anne Johnson, the Planned Parenthood educator who spoke to the children Wednesday, said abortion was never discussed. She said she spoke for about three minutes about "the array of services that we offer, 96 percent of which are prevention."

Johnson said she'd like her agency to be part of any future site visits by the STAY program.

"We're pretty proud to have been selected," said Johnson. "It's a shame that people took this as an opportunity to harass kids."

Pro-Life/Pro-Baby ping!

This was covered on Fox News today where they tried to make the point that some parents are upset about this "field trip to a non-profit" [HAH} because the students were exposed to pro-life protestors.

Please FReepmail me if you would like to be added to, or removed from, the Pro-Life/Pro-Baby ping list...

What *was* said? Unwanted pregnancy? Fetal tissue? Something about the way that was worded makes me think she's not being forthright about this.
