The FReeper Canteen Crew sadly announces the passing of Mr. Tonkin. (68-69TonkinGulfYachtClub).
If you would like to leave a message for his family, please direct them to amom.
Also, we ask that you send prayers to amom, his son Matthew, family, and friends.
We love you, Mr. Tonkin. Say 'hello' to Texas Cowboy for all of us.
You're missed and will never be forgotten.
We hope to make this an online memorial book for his family.
Details will be provided later regarding funeral services.
Godspeed, Until we can All Meet Around God's Throne.

God bless you, tonk.
His insightful contributions will be missed. Condolences and prayers to his family.
Prayers for his family.
Funny how the character of a person comes through even over the internet. He was a person of good character and those of us on FR will definitely feel the void.
A good man who will be greatly missed.
Well done, Tonk. RIP
RIP, Friend.
Rest in peace gentle friend. We will be honored to shoulder your burden.
I am so very sorry - did not even know he was sick. I have always had great respect for his efforts on FR. I never remember anything, anything that was rude, crude, or over the top.
Thank you Mr. Tonkin - indeed you will be missed.
What an absolutely beautiful salute.
Prayers extended and thanks to Tonky for his service to our country, for all the time he spent sharing his knowledge and expertise here on Free Republic and for his undying love for our great country.
God please Bless our dear FRiend 68-69TonkinGulfYachtClub, and please Bless his family and friends.
Rest in peace, Tonky!
Uglybiker, thank you for the beautiful prayer posted in memory of Tonky.

Order arms!
Post or FReepmail me if you wish to be enlisted in or discharged from the Navair Pinglist.
This is a medium volume pinglist.
My thoughts and prayers are with Brian and his loved ones. Tonkin has been missed for so long, was praying that all would be OK with him, sadly...that was not to be, but I know Brian is in a beautiful place now.
Rest In Peace, Tonkin. Thankful that we met in the Canteen many years ago. There is a Freeper Heaven, with a whole lot of chatting going on, bless all of you.
Thank you for the ping, LUV W.

Thanks for the ping. May he rest in peace.
darn it, you went and used that blurry font again. :) Thank you so much for posting that; I cannot believe I had not seen it before.
Sad news this, but now his R&R lasts forever.
My thoughts and prayers go out to his family.
Tet68.
Thanks for the ping. Now his soul is at rest. I being a rather newbie here did not have the honor of conversing with him over the years. I can imagine how much he is missed by many that grew to know him.
Thank you for informing us of this sad event. It came to be that some posts were so excellent, on point, and worthy of massive pinging, that I’d automatically guess the screen name before I read it. They were usually Tonk’s, and I miss his fine work.
You’re welcome.
Amen...he is with TC, Flyer and God...good crowd to be with.
What wonderful pictures of this hero of ours, Kathy!
Thank you for sharing them and his story.

Farewell Freeper friend.
You will be missed.
My prayers for his family.
May you find comfort in knowing that the angels are smiling because Mr. Tonkin is among them now.
Blessings and peace.
I managed to keep it out of my mind all day today, with just a couple of slips, but I managed to stay on top. Good thing, too, because I just burst into tears several times last night.
So grateful to have known him, guided by his conviction, strengthened by his example-he will be with us all the days of our lives
and we are richer for it.
I cried too.
I just realized I have neglected to let you know I am praying for you and yours. Tonkin was a dear friend to me. I only knew him from online, but he was always so kind. I will miss him
Thanks so much MoJo2001 for the update!
Rest in Peace Mr. Tonkin, you will be missed abundantly!!
My deepest condolences to his family and prayers going up for his family during this time.
I send my prayers for Tonkin’s family and friends on the loss of their loved one who gave this country so much of himself.
Blessings to the fam.
FR has lost a good friend, and this nation, a solid citizen and a foul-weather patriot. RIP Brian.
This thread is dedicated to the memory of 68-69 Tonkin Gulf Yatch Club...
Rest in peace Brian.
Thank you for your service and your friendship.

I’ve probably gotten five pings for this thread. I normally don’t ignore pings, but this time, I just found it too hard to read.
I didn’t know him, never posted to him, but I read a lot of his posts, and know he was worthy of everything good.
All I can do is wish him Godspeed, and ask that his family be comforted.
RIP Brian.
I knew ya just a little, but you helped me when I needed some.
Well done Norm, I find it most impressive that an internet community such as ours can spit and fight on just about any topic, however, we all pull together and support our own when the times are tough.

Very true. Wonderful dedication to all you fine people at the NASCAR thread.

Thanks for the ping Norm. Tonk was on my prayer list until yesterday and his family remains there.
May the Lord welcome him with open arms and the words all believers will hear one day, “Well done good and faithful servant.”

Makes the screen blurry, reading that again. He was an inspiration to us who sometimes wondered if there were as many people still waiting to take revenge on that blood-soaked patrician creep as we'd hoped...AND Tonk helped inspire people who weren't in or hadn't lost loved ones to the Viet Nam war to fight to clear the names of all of our service men and women who served in Viet Nam. As long as Kerry's name appears in the news, Tonk's legacy will live on in those he encouraged and inspired to continue the fight for truth.
He was a rare gem.
I hate it when we lose good men.
I am so saddened by this grim news. Prayers to amom, his son Matthew, family, and friends.

Prayers up. R.I.P.
SOME of those turds think they got their revenge on Brian for exposing the TRUTH. They are wrong. Tonk is one more Vietnam veteran to add to the long list of good reasons NEVER to give up the fight to clear their names of the stains ground in by Kerry and Kompany.
I'm gonna miss you my Brother.

p.s. Anita and the girls will too.
