WASHINGTON — Two congressional committees are issuing subpoenas for testimony from former White House counsel Harriet Miers and former political director Sara Taylor on their roles in the firings of eight federal prosecutors, according to two officials familiar with the investigation.

Democrats probing whether the White House improperly dictated which prosecutors the Justice Department should fire also are subpoenaing the White House for all relevant documents, said the officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity because the decision had not yet been made public.

The Senate Judiciary Committee's subpoena for Taylor compels her to testify on July 11, while the House Judiciary Committee's subpoena for Miers compels her testimony the next day.

Quote: “Democrats probing whether the White House improperly dictated which prosecutors the Justice Department should fire. . .”

How does one, I wonder, improperly dictate which prosecutor to fire when one has the right to fire that prosecutor at any moment?

What the ap really should have said here is: “Democrats< probing whether they can criminalize any actions taken by the White House with which the democrats disagree, are looking to smear as many people as they can.”

The word subpoena translates into under penalty. Exactly what penalty can the congress dole out to private citizens who flip them off?

Everyone knew that this do nothing but pretend congress was going to try this stunt but the media is acting as this time it will lead to something. I only wish the White House would play hardball but after 6 years I’ve kind of given up on that pipe dream. They’ll negotiate their testimony and it will be another 8 hours of the witnesses sitting there listening to political statements.

Harriet Miers was not qualified for SCOTUS, but I really think she can handle a situation like this.
