It is a different age. Back in ‘86 they could pass things and the public would find out about it in the morning newspaper.
The internet has changed that.
Base? We doan need no steenking base...

While thats obviously true, in 1986 we all were quite willing to support almost anything RR suggested, because of what he had accomplished previously.
Dubya never had that kind of support for domestic policies of any type....and he sure doesn’t have the credibility as things stand today that Reagan did as we know.
Nope. This is pure bribery. When you can't sell a POS bill on its own merits, load it with earmarks/pork/enticements.
I don’t trust Harry as far as I can throw him.
Well believe it or not I remember screaming at the tv in 1986....of course it was after the fact. I wasn’t behind Reagan’s amnesty anymore than I am behind this one.
I do not follow blindly and have no compunction about speaking up when they are wrong.....and it doesn’t matter to me who ‘they’ is.
The problem is that 300,000,000 people won’t protest this. Oh, they might poll negatively on it, but most people don’t do much...we’re hypnotized by our prosperity and think everything is going to keep on going just the way it’s been going. Meanwhile, our country is being sold out from under us by a handful of elite idiots.

That is exactly what I told McConnell’s office this morning. That they were so used to throwing pork around D.C. to get what they want they figured they could throw a little pork to the American people and we will sign off on amnesty. I told the gal....they are trying to bribe me with MY money and it disgusts me. What part of no don’t they understand?

It wasn’t a problem here in Ohio back then, and my focus due to my age at the time and recent service was on the Cold War, taxation, and judicial nominations. It simply wasn’t a big deal to those of us here back then. Reagan thought it was a good move, so I was okay with it.
We all know today it was a complete failure, and thats why so many of us that didn’t care back then DEEPLY CARE today.
The legislation that Bush signed into law just late last October (the Secure Fence Act of 2006) authorized 700 miles of new reinforced fencing and so far, I can only find evidence of just 2 miles being completed with repairs made to about nine others.
Three years ago, Bush signed a law (the National Identification Act of 2004) authorizing an additional 10,000 BP agents to be added over five years beginning in 2006. There ought be 4,000 new officers on duty - 6,400 more eyes on the southern border, but to date - only 210 officers have been hired and some of those were only replacements of retirees, of those choosing career changes, and replacements of those either incarcerated for doing their jobs or those who died doing their duty.
Until at least a half-hearted effort is made to enforce what laws have already been enacted, American Patriots will and ought stiffly resist any revisions to immigration code that offers amnesty to illegal aliens.
What Capitol Hill SAYS is one thing; what we GET is entirely nothing of the kind.
This “Grand Bargain” is but a new pile of manure from the same old horse.
Well, I live in California. That should explain it to you. ;)
These guys are going to discover that it’s impossible to grab a turd by the clean end.
‘Well, I live in California. That should explain it to you. ;)’
Figured you lived in the Southwest due to your interest dating back to 1986.
I was shocked when I heard what was in this bill. I am even more shocked at Bush’s obsession with ramming it down our throats.
Money (from the corporations) and power (illegals eventually voting)
Nice. Could you do one now with Kyl, the South Carolina Weeping Pansy, Martinez, McConnell, Kennedy and Reid?
In the pic of those laughing, the Swimmer’s holding a piece of paper and already has his bird cocked.
Yeah, that “killer amendment” stopping criminals from accessing the rights under this bill was defeated, with a watered-down Kennedy version put in its place.
Good work, Senators!
Illegals with DUI’s, Welcome!!!
Illegals ignoring deportation orders? All is forgiven!!! (Please move to Cape Cod)
Yeah, he wants this bill so bad he can taste it. Of course Dems have better political instincts than do Repubs so he knows it has to be a ‘Repub Bill’.
They know what we want but they don’t give a dam. I have nothing but contempt for these lowlife politicians. I almost spit at my television this morning when it showed Kyle,Lott and some other old moron. I think it’s time to elect people who have no ties to either party. We need to elect people who love their country and know what it means to work for a living.
