CAMP PENDLETON, Calif., June 14 — Government forensic experts testified at a military hearing here Thursday that four Iraqi men killed by marines in Haditha in 2005 appeared to have been shot in the head from at least a few feet away, undercutting prosecutors’ argument that the men had been “executed” by two Marine infantrymen.

But, in a sign of how forensic evidence can be open to differing interpretations, one expert conceded that the evidence could support the marines’ account of acting in self-defense just minutes after he had asserted that it contradicted one marine’s account of the shootings.

Thursday’s testimony, based on an analysis of photographs of the four bodies...

Is this the case where the relatives refused to allow the bodies to be exhumed and examined?

So what? I killed men in Nam two feet from me, once even closer, you don't always have the luxury of siting your enemy in 200 yards away, some jump out close, others get close because you are busy killing others as they charge your position.

Mr. Bush, let the guys fight to win, sort out the problems after we win, stop playing monica to the left.

The problem is the CIC is more interested in serving the NY Times, Ted kennedy, and the leftist Republic haters than he is defending the men he sent to war.

You're supposed to shoot people from afar. And trials should mimic the OJ Simpson trial. And saying stuff while hanging someone is outrageous!

“In sworn statements provided to The New York Times though they have not yet been made public,”

Oh - and just how did they manage to get that out.

“But Special Agent Maloney, in a forensic report last year, concluded from blood spatter and bullet trajectories that two Iraqi men were shot “while crouched or sitting” — one against a wall, the other inside a closed closet.”

Well, duh!! In a firefight, you grab what cover and concealment you can. You shrink your profile to the minimal amount possible to provide the smallest target.

Agent Baloney needs some time on patrol.

Of course they were shot from a few feet away.

Even in America rooms are small, so, you burst through the door, you spray the room high and low. You don’t ask for an ID check.

Probably the greatest distance anyone would be at would be 12 feet.

The article concludes...

But whether the men were armed when they were shot remains an open question. The two AK-47s, which Iraqi witnesses said they saw marines carry out of the home after the shootings, were not kept in a secure locker at the nearby Marine base, and cannot be found.

Two AKs were carried out of the home. I think we can conclude the men were armed even if the armory corporal screwed up. Jeesh.

That’s why it’s called “Close Quarter Battle” (CQB)...geez, if I have to bash the enemy’s head in with a rock that’s CQB —arm’s length...why don’t these people “get it?”

So what. Is the pentagon saying our troops can’t engage the enemy unless they are a specified distance away? What nonsense!!

Cause they love teddy kennedy more than they love the US of A. If it were not for his judge appointees, I would be joining the impeach bush bandwagon.
