Outrage! Mel Martinez Condemns U.S In Latin America (Debbie Schlussel Open Borders RINO Alert)
http://www.debbieschlussel.com/archives/2007/06/outrage_gop_cha.html ^ | 06/15/2007 | Debbie Schlussel

Now, he's really gone too far.

Republican Party Chairman and Florida U.S. Senator Mel Martinez needs to get out of politics before he single-handedly (well, actually with the help of President George W. Bush and other Senators like Jon Kyl) destroys the Republican Party forever.

Today's Wall Street Journal Washington Wire reports that--despite the GOP's jilted lover stalking of the Hispanic vote (including such tactics as the Illegal Alien Amnesty Bill)--more Hispanics than ever identify themselves as Democrats rather than Republicans. A new Wall Street Journal/NBC poll finds that they identify 51% to 21% as Democrats to Republicans.

But, instead of facing the music that open borders advocacy doesn't help the GOP even from a pragmatic, vote-whoring point of view, Martinez instead BLAMES America for "past foreign interventions in Latin American countries" for the downward decline in Hispanic GOP identification. And, Martinez maintains, "a skillful 2008 Republican candidate can recover.

Sandinista, er . . . GOP Chairman, Senator Mel Martinez

HUH?????!!!!! Ronald Reagan is turning over in his grave . . . again.

The last American "foreign intervention in Latin America" was when we supported the Nicaraguan Freedom Fighters--the Contras--against the Communist tyranny of the Sandinistas, headed by Gucci-glasses, pre-Lasik Daniel Ortega. We need to "recover" from that?!

If only we had listened to Oliver North in Nicaragua's elections, last year, and had another "foreign intervention in Latin America." But we did not, and Daniel Ortega (now Lasik-ed) has returned to power.

And, guess what? Our lack of "foreign intervention in Latin America," this time around, didn't help the GOP, Senor Martinez.

But it did lead to this . . .

Mr. Martinez, time for you to say Adios . . . before the rest of America says Adios to you and your party.

Oh, and by the way, that same Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll showed that fewer than 30% of members of both parties--the GOP and the Democrats--call the Senate immigration amnesty bill "acceptable."

Like I said, take the hint, Mr. Martinez. Say bye-bye. Please.

Mel Martinez, his boss and a large Senate coterie is doing their best to destroy the Republican Party. Let's say adios to him and his RINO ilk.

I remember a guy on the radio in Orlando about 10 yrs ago, when Martinez was a local politician, saying we should get rid of this guy. I guess they did, he got bumped up and out.

This liability from the State of Florida just got elected, so he has a destructive run all the way to 2010. Here in Florida we have a cartoon character for a governor and a clown for a Senator.

And they're both Republicans.

Here’s a list of key Senate contacts for EVERYONE to email regarding immigration. Many offices are putting calls straight to voicemail and they can just trash faxes (and letters take weeks to get through due to security). Let’s hit Hill staff where they are so codependent - their Blackberries. Send email directly to staff - not just the
generic Senator’s mailbox. Contact their Chief of Staff, Legislative Director, and Press Secretary. Make your voice heard!!

Make sure you cut and paste the email addresses, instead of just clicking on them, as the HTML is only picking up half the email address (for some reason it cuts off the first name of the recipients).

If only we had listened to Oliver North in Nicaragua's elections, last year, and had another "foreign intervention in Latin America." But we did not, and Daniel Ortega (now Lasik-ed) has returned to power.

Debbie's hyperventilating again.

We should invade Nicaragua because we don't like the results of the last election? Without the USSR as a sponsor, Nicaragua just isn't very important.

BTW, we did intervene in Latin America a great many times, mostly in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, although starting as early as the Mexican War.

The story of these interventions is not nearly as simple as the "evil gringo" version taught in Latin American and US schools, but they did indeed happen.

The party’s already dead. It’s been infiltrated at every level. We have a two-party one-party system in America — the only distinction between them being the degree of Marxism they’re willing to publicly embrace and advocate.

It’s time to accept it and figure out what to do next. Every moment wasted on trying to revive this dead political institution would be better much better spent trying to save this dying country.

Martinez is just a patron like Bush, just with a hispanic name. Cubans like their slaves too.

Bush choice for commerce secretary...Gutierrez...what’s his experience?

Managing Coca-cola plants in Mexico, with Mexican workers. Good experience in Bush’s book for the “new” economy. But the white liberal MSM acts if this guy is a good representative for a “minority.” He’s not, he’s is the overclass. Just like Bush, Hillary, Obama, all just different cogs in the wheel looking to depress wages for campaign contribution kickbacks.

More outrage: This was in El Tiempo Latino, a newpaper in Spanish published by the Wash Post. It is an interview of Sect. Commerce Carlos Gutirrez by Jorge Ramos, who is like the Tom Brokaw of Univision News:

Ramos: “¿Usted cree que extender el muro sirve de algo?” Do you think the fence (wall) serves a purpose?

Gutirrez: “Los expertos dicen que sí funciona simbólicamente (porque) hay gente que quiere ver que se está haciendo todo lo posible en la frontera”, me dijo. “Yo lo que les puedo decir es que una barda no es una solución”. The experts say that it functions symbolically because there are people who want to see that everything possible is being done on the border. What I tell them is that the fence is not a solution.

So, he's saying we have to build a fence so it will look like we're doing something, but it really doesn't serve any good purpose. This is at the same time Bush is touting the famous $4.4 billion they SAY they are going to put toward border security. The administration is telling the Spanish speakers one thing -- we're just doing this to make our critics shut up, but it won't really work, while telling people who speak in English something else entirely.http://www.eltiempolatino.com/opinion/carlos.html

And, Martinez maintains, "a skillful 2008 Republican candidate can recover.

Just what we need. A Senator and party leader who believes that wishful thinking is an acceptable substitute for evidence.

There is ZERO evidence that the majority of Hispanics will become reliable Republican voters--and plenty of evidence that they will not.

Thanks for that list. I've put all the email addresses together, separated by semi-colons so FReepers should be able to cut-n-paste this list to blind carbon copy (bcc) these aides. If anyone sees any mistakes I made in the list, please post a correction. A good idea might be to send your email to yourself (to make sure it went through) and bcc everyone on the list.

From "Mel Martinez Aims to Turn Around Republican Party":
Adam Segal, director the Hispanic Voter Project at Johns Hopkins University, said Hispanic voters are split over immigration, in particular a temporary guest worker program...The party that can figure out how best to address immigration issues could seal the Latino vote next election, he said.

Mel & Jorge Bush seem to think the best way to appeal to hispanic Americans is to forgive criminals, and to make it easier for law-breakers to stay in the country while simultaneously making it more difficult for immigrants pursuing the legal route to get into the country.

Get a clue guys! Stop pandering to offensive stereotypes.

The best way to appeal to us is to execute the laws already on the books, create a system that better rewards those going thru legal channels while punishing those going through illegal ones, and does not ignore crimes against property or people.

Did you catch this quote from your link?
“We believe that the party that captures and motivates and gets the Hispanic vote to turn out is going to be the party who wins the White House” in 2008, said Brent Wilkes, national executive director of the League of United Latin American Citizens, the nation’s largest and oldest Hispanic rights group.
Brent Wilkes, the Bush Pioneer? Brent Wilkes, the one under indictment in the Duke Cunningham debacle (right before Gonzales fired the US Attorney, Carol Lam). Now he is executive director of LULAC, a group funded by George Soros and the Ford Foundation? This Brent Wilkes is a spokesman for Republican success?

I am inclined to think "pay back" at this point.

It just seems like the "deal" has been made but the American people just don't want to pay.

The story of these interventions is not nearly as simple as the "evil gringo" version taught in Latin American and US schools, but they did indeed happen.

Yeah so what. Mel?

How about our European interventions? WW1.WW2,Fifty years of Cold War, Kosovo etc.

Or our Asian interventions WW1.WW2,Korea, Philipines, Fifty years of Cold War

That's the thing with being an important country.

Big Power. Big Interests.

So he knew how to screw over people the most and outsource to Mexico, etc. and thereby got to the top. “Inspiring”

Stories are just pap. Look to what he says, does and spins.

“Get a clue guys! Stop pandering to offensive stereotypes.”

It’s actually good strategy, Rove deployed it last year.

A liberal politicians fear being labelled “conservative” more than the care about facts. They also love to oppose themselves to conservatives, and label them as mean, etc. Rove/Bush labelling the opposition as wholly “conservative” keeps the liberal media and elites in line.

Last year all Rove had to do is leak twice that “conservative house republicans” were the problem and the liberal media, progressives, NPR all went running at that like a Labrador dog after a stick.

I 1st sent my senator an e-mail stating my opposition to the amnesty b.s. bill and got a letter asking for a donation to the republican party.
I again sent an e-mail and this is what i got:

Below is a response to the recent comments I received from you:

Dear Mr. Boucher:

Thank you for taking the time to contact me. I appreciate hearing from you regarding comprehensive immigration reform and would like to respond to your concerns.

As you may know, on June 7, 2007, the Senate was unable to reach an agreement on the Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act (S. 1348) and the Senate Majority Leader has set aside S. 1348, for the time being. Delaying comprehensive reform does a disservice to America. I remain committed to working together with my colleagues to produce a tough but fair and workable piece of legislation that President Bush can sign into law during this Congress.

To do this, we must secure the border first. The first section of S. 1348 mandates that border security and work site-enforcement benchmarks must be met before other elements of the legislation are implemented. This legislation will direct the Department of Homeland Security to complete construction of hundreds of miles of additional double layered fencing and create 200 miles of vehicle barriers on our border with Mexico. The department will hire and train 18,000 border patrol agents. In addition, this bill provides for surveillance technologies to enhance our ability to monitor the border, such as, 70 ground –based radar and camera towers on the southern border and 4 unmanned aerial vehicles. However, physically securing the border will not solve the entire problem. Employers will be required to verify the work eligibility of all employees using an employment eligibility verification system, while all workers will be required to present stronger and more verifiable identification documents. Tough new anti-fraud measures will be implemented and stiff penalties imposed on employers who break the law.

After the border has been certified secure by the Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security and the employment verification system is in place, the remaining provisions of the bill will go into effect. To address the labor shortage in industries with a demonstrated need such as, the Florida Citrus and Hospitality Industries, a guest worker program will be implemented. The purpose of this program is to relieve pressure on the border and provide a lawful way to meet the needs of our economy. The proposal creates a temporary worker program to fill jobs Americans are not doing. To ensure this program is truly temporary, workers will be limited to three two-year terms, with at least a year spent outside the United States between each term. A small percentage of temporary workers will be allowed to bring immediate family members only if they have the financial ability to support them and they are covered by health insurance.

Additionally, this legislation does away with a relative- based immigration system or “Chain Migration” and establishes a new merit-based system to select future immigrants based on the skills and attributes they will bring to the United States. Under the merit-based system, future immigrants applying for permanent residency in the U.S. will be assigned points for skills, education, and other attributes that further our national interest including: ability to speak English; level of schooling, including added points for training in science, math, and technology; employment in a specialty or high-demand field; employer endorsement; and certain family ties to the U.S. This merit- based system will enhance and ensure American competitiveness for the future and put American immigration policies in line with other industrialized nations.

It is my firm belief that addressing border security and cracking down on unscrupulous employers while doing nothing to address those already living here illegally would amount to de facto amnesty for those 12 million. Further, it is in the United States’ national security interest to learn the identity of these individuals. Illegal immigrants who come out of the shadows will be given probationary status. Once the border security and enforcement benchmarks are met, they must pass a background check, remain employed, maintain a clean criminal record, pay an initial fine, determined by the size of their household as well as a state impact fee, and receive a counterfeit-proof biometric card to apply for a work visa or “Z visa.” Some years later, these Z visa holders will be eligible to apply for limited permanent residency, but only after paying an additional $4,000 fine; completing accelerated English requirements and demonstrating knowledge of American civics; going to the back of the line while the current green card backlog clears; returning to their home country to file their application; and demonstrating merit under the merit-based system. It is important to note that a petitioner for or holder of a Z visa can be deported at any time if a disqualifying factor is identified during background checks, such factors include but are not limited to— a criminal conviction, gang affiliation or terrorist activity.

With my full support, this bill declares that English is the national language of the United States and calls on the United States Government to preserve and enhance it, as well as enacting accelerated English requirements for many immigrants.

Please know that I will keep your concerns in mind as the Senate debates S.1348. I am aware that Congress has failed to oversee the enforcement of immigration law in the past. I believe that S. 1348 provides the Executive Branch, American employers and people aspiring to work in America or become Americans with a clear and workable policy that is efficient and fair. This is an important national security, economic, and humanitarian challenge, and I know the American people are looking to Congress for action and oversight.

Again, thank you for sharing your views with me. If you have any additional comments, please contact me. For more information about issues and activities important to Florida, please sign up for my weekly newsletter at http://martinez.senate.gov.

Sincerely,

Mel Martinez
United States Senator
I will not give a penny to the g.o.p. as long as this turd is there.

He’s not Mexican. He came from Cuba with his family. They settled in New York, left for Mexico City when he was little and stayed there.

Interesting story. I’d like to know why a family would flee from Cuba, make it to the US and leave to live Mexico City, while everyone else is leaving Mexico to come here?

Could it be that the family was priveleged, or had some not so nice money making things going on?

This is not over yet. Bush refuses to give up this easily. It's his stubborn character. As I predicted he would try to resurrect it and call it something else. We have to keep our guard up. We need to keep the pressure up. We have no choice but to fight. The oligarchy wants cheap labor and a destruction of the middle class and the millionaire democrats want votes they can count on. A marriage made in HELL.

STAGE TWO is to go after the people who hire illegals. Start giving them fines and arresting them. Just catch ten or 100 of them on the nightly news. The magnet will dry up and most of the 12 million will go home by themselves.

As an addendum, we should anonymously call the IRS, people working "off the books" means taxes ain't being paid. Make anonymous fliers and hang them around the neighborhood, name names. It's time to embarrass these bustards, whether they give to the GOP or Rats, we don't need them.

CALL! CALL! CALL! CALL! AND KEEP CALLING TILL THE LINES FRY!

WRITE! WRITE! WRITE! WRITE! TILL YOU RUN OUT OF INK IN YOUR PEN!

Bombard the Democrats as well, especially the ones that ran on an anti illegal immigration plank and the ones in marginal districts who could be vulnerable. keep pounding on them. This is a bipartisan issue not a Conservative or Liberal issue BUT AN AMERICAN issue.

STOP AMNESTY NOW!! WE CAN DO IT!!

The best way to stop Shamnesty

Martinez' blabber contains nothing about the permanent temporary Z visa, which doesn't depend on so-called "border security" or "triggers," and the fact that from the minute the bill is signed, all illegals will be considered eligible for amnesty, until proven otherwise -- even those now under deportation order.

Truly deceitful, and disgraceful.

I know it’s too much to ask for a real conservative to head the RNC but you’d think he could at least try to conceal his Marxist sympathathies.

At best, he's admitting out loud that Latinos in general aren’t Republicans because Republicans oppose communism.
