Bush Urges Hispanics To Speak Up (New Info and Quotes)
The Washington Times ^ | June 16, 2007 | Steven Dinan

Posted on 06/15/2007 10:05:16 PM PDT by truthkeeper

President Bush yesterday told Hispanics to step into the middle of the immigration debate and make sure senators who have been bombarded with calls from opponents also hear from those who support the bill.

"There's a lot of emotion on this issue, and it makes sense to have people from around the country come and sit down with members of Congress to talk rationally about the issue," he told those attending the Hispanic Prayer Breakfast in Washington yesterday.

He was speaking a day after the bill, which collapsed last week, was revived by the top Democrat and Republican in the Senate.

Majority Leader Harry Reid, Nevada Democrat, agreed to put the bill back on the Senate's schedule next week, and Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, Kentucky Republican, agreed to limit the number of amendments Republicans would offer.

But roadblocks are already popping up.
Sen. Jim DeMint, South Carolina Republican, said he will block any attempt to send the bill to an eventual House-Senate conference, complicating the usual path a bill takes to reach the president's desk.

"Ted Kennedy has sold us another bill of goods and I don't trust him to make even more changes...

They were people who loved and appreciate freedom more than most native born Americans

Yes, they're so much better than us Americans, aren't they. That sounds familiar.

I admit my mistake in supporting Bush and I beg the forgiveness of the conservative movement. Señor Arbusto is really making me mad.

President Bush yesterday told illegal aliens to step into the middle of the immigration debate and make sure senators who have been bombarded with calls from United States citizens also hear from those who support the bill.

Yes, but near the beginning of his remarks, he said, "At this breakfast we set aside our politics and come together ....."

So you see, his remarks really had nothing to do with politics at all. Why is everyone trying to politicize them?

Over there they bait and post comments with emotions not facts.
They keep a very narrow information base and don’t really know what is really going on.

I have done more to support Bush than most of them put together including many counter code pick rallys and countering anti war rallys, etc.
I also have many relatives who have served and still serving in Iraq.

Most of them live 500 to 2,000 miles from the border.
I live 20 miles north of the largest and busiest border crossing in the world in San Diego.
They have no clue what we put up with and the mega millions in tax money supporting the illegals.

They were heard. Last May 1st they were heard by the thousands marching in the streets, carrying Mexican flags and signs in spanish, demanding OUR rights. That’s why people are so irate now.

Well I think those bozos carrying Mexican flags should be kicked out, right after we kick their sorry little butts around just for fun.

Seriously. If they don't love this country then they should be kicked out pronto!

What on earth is this President doing ?!?!?

You got it right. Incite the foreign invaders to intimidate duly elected representatives of this republic into voting for amnesty and the citizens be damned.

With the powers now granted by the Patriot Act any attempt to counter Reconquista-Azatlan riots will be put down like Reno smoked the Waco compound.

Just to tickle your memory, Ruby Ridge happened during Arbusto Primus and the groundwork by the BATFAGS for the Waco massacre was also set during the same tenure. Janet just lit the match.

Most of those hispanics were Cubans not Mexicans.
Cubans escaped from Communism and appreciate America.

Not so of the Mexicans. The say to your face, go back to Europe while wearing their Che t-shirts

And I will bet they were Cubans not Mexicans. Cubans want Castro gone so they can re-patriot back to Cuba. The illegal Mexicans want no such thing.

“IMPEACH NOW!”

Well, you have to hand it to the guy — he’s united the country.

DU and FR seem to agree on the whole impeachment thing, finally.

That of course is not what I said. But if you feel inferior and the shoe fits wear it.

Liar. That’s exactly what you said. You think Mexicans are better and more patriotic than American-born citizens.

They were people who loved and appreciate freedom more than most native born Americans. And I loved them for this.

well, not all the illegal immigrants here in California love the US... almost every day i see different people waving Mexico's flag from their cars... and someone a street away from me has a flagpole in his front yard... and guess which one and only flag is waving high on it? Mexico's... i'm disgusted... my own sister-in-law has been in this country for over 15 years, and she still does not speak English...

What bugs me is that I live in a college town and we get a lot of foreign students and they speak English and love it when you take the time to talk with them. In the late 90’s a group were here from Columbia and several were not very fluent but my daughter brought them to several football games and they had a ball. They had wanted to see American futbol up close. They would only speak English because that is the only way they said they could learn the language and apologized if they didn’t say it right.

When they went back after a year, we heard from several of them that had satellite so they could watch OU play football and improve their English. Every last one of the six came back for their graduate degrees. One is now a professor here at OU. All six are applying for citizenship. They didn’t sneak across the border, they competed for graduate school and came here legally. All six are now very fluent in English and as one of them said are living the American dream. They detest the illegals and don’t understand why our Government allows them to stay and get in line ahead of people who want to come here legally. I don’t understand it either.

Most Cubans I met loved life much here in the states to ever relocate back in Cuba.
