UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon said that the slaughter in Darfur was triggered by global climate change and that more such conflicts may be on the horizon, in an article published Saturday.
"The Darfur conflict began as an ecological crisis, arising at least in part from climate change," Ban said in a Washington Post opinion column.
UN statistics showed that rainfall declined some 40 percent over the past two decades, he said, as a rise in Indian Ocean temperatures disrupted monsoons.
"This suggests that the drying of sub-Saharan Africa derives, to some degree, from man-made global warming," the South Korean diplomat wrote.
"It is no accident that the violence in Darfur erupted during the drought," Ban said in the Washington daily.
When Darfur's land was rich, he said, black farmers welcomed Arab herders and shared their water, he said.
With the drought, however, farmers fenced in their land to prevent overgrazing.
"For the first time in memory, there was no longer enough food and water for all. Fighting broke out," he said.
A UN peacekeeping force may stop the fighting, he said, and more than two million people may return to rebuilt homes in safe villages.
"But what to do about the essential dilemma: the fact that there's no longer enough good land to go around?"
"Any real solution to Darfur's troubles involves sustained economic development," perhaps using new technologies, genetically modified grains or irrigation, while bettering health, education and sanitation, he said.

We actually do live in deserts like no other people on Earth. Both Las Vegas and Phoenix boast more than one million people while lacking any considerable local water resources. We use engineering wonders like the Hoover Dam to make our deserts livable. We irrigate the deserts of the Imperial Valley into some of the most productive farmland in America. Israel likewise makes its deserts bloom. Then again, we’re civilized.
Perhaps, next year, when our taxes are next due, global warming will cause all of us AMERICANS to “forget” we owe the gubment money to pay for their amnesty “children”.
Global Warming ate my homework
Honey, I wasn’t sleeping with another woman, Global Warming made me think she was you!
We are dealing with ignoramus sand lackeys of the male MOOSE-LIMB variety
Have I offended anyone yet?
Can we wait until BJ Clinton is Secretary General before we break out the bulldozers?
Time to change his name to Ban Ki-moonbat.
AHHHHH!
This has become absolutely insane. They act like bad men never did bad things before. It was a big lollipop peaceful world, until ‘global warming’ turned everyone into killers!
These people are so absolutely insane, they should not be let in public. Instead, they are leading the UN. We need out of this schizophrenic institution.
A timeline of Sahara occupation [See Map]:
* 22,000 to 10,500 years ago: The Sahara was devoid of any human occupation outside the Nile Valley and extended 250 miles further south than it does today.
* 10,500 to 9,000 years ago: Monsoon rains begin sweeping into the Sahara, transforming the region into a habitable area swiftly settled by Nile Valley dwellers.
* 9,000 to 7,300 years ago: Continued rains, vegetation growth, and animal migrations lead to well established human settlements, including the introduction of domesticated livestock such as sheep and goats.
* 7,300 to 5,500 years ago: Retreating monsoonal rains initiate desiccation in the Egyptian Sahara, prompting humans to move to remaining habitable niches in Sudanese Sahara. The end of the rains and return of desert conditions throughout the Sahara after 5,500 coincides with population return to the Nile Valley and the beginning of pharaonic society.

What insanity.
Next we will be told that Paris Hilton, Briney Spears and Lindsay Lohan are not wearing underwear in public because of global climate change.
Not enough food to go around??? I clicked on the above article and saw this at the bottom...

You know, THAT might be correct though... :-)
Good observation! You should have taken a screen cap. The irony...
This is the same sort of insane babel we’ve been hearing in this country - that poverty causes violence. Sinful man will use any excuse to avoid responsibility. Time to defund the UN and kick it out of the country, if not off the planet.
