HUNTER CORRECTS VICE PRES.ON NUMBER OF ARMY DIVISIONS (Duncan Hunter shoots down Algore-2000)

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Duncan Hunter (CA-52) today corrected Vice President Al Gore’s statement from last evening’s debate regarding the number of Army divisions currently available in our military. Responding to an audience member’s question regarding the deployment of our military during peacetime, the Vice President answered:

"The trends before we — before I got my current job were on the decline. The number of divisions were reduced. I argued that we should reverse that trend and take it back up. And I’m happy to tell you that we have.”

Army divisions, however, have been reduced from 14 to 10 since January, 1993 when the Clinton/Gore Administration began. Additionally, the services have testified before the House Armed Services Committee that working with increasing aging equipment and aircraft, coupled with shortfalls on everything from basic ammunition to precision guided munitions, have resulted in severely declining mission capable rates.

“Despite what the Vice President says about the current state of our military readiness, the numbers indicate that this administration has cut the military nearly in half,” said Hunter. “In addition to this decline in Army divisions, Fighter Wings since Desert Storm have been reduced from 24 to 13 and Navy ships have been reduced from 546 to 316. Taking this into consideration, I fail to see how the Vice President can state that this administration has reversed a trend of declining divisions. The fact of matter is that our military currently does not have the resources to meet the administration’s own “two major theater war” strategy. To indicate otherwise is irresponsible.”

Congressman Hunter is the Chairman of the House Subcommittee on Military Procurement and oversees the acquisition of weapons systems and programs for the U.S. military.

No one knows out Military better than Duncan Hunter, especially Algore the ignorant. If not for Hunter fighting the Clinton Administration every step of the way, things would have been much worse.

Duncan Hunter has done a great job exposing the Clinton administration’s anti-military policies. Go Hunter!

Wasn't Algore suppose to impose new safety regulations for airlines after TWA800, that is before he got all those airline donations and before 9-11?

Never Forget!

I got excited when I saw that. I though Duncan Hunter was having a Dick Cheney moment.

Historians, correct me. I seem to recall that we were in a similar situation when the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor. Our military was not ready for war in terms of men and materiel. But we rolled up our sleeves. Today, not only do I doubt that we have the will to roll up our sleeves, but I don’t think we have the industrial infrastructure to do so. Where are our steel plants, our foundries, and our ship yards capable of meeting wartime needs? Gone in the haze of post-adolescent sweet dreams of peace.

Why is it that some of our best candidates, like Hunter, are not allowed by the media to become well-known?

The question answers itself. The totally liberal-dominated media has good reason to make sure people like Hunter go unnoticed.

The socialists have reason to rejoice. They gave up their Berlin Wall smiling, knowing we were stuck with the liberal media time-bomb.

Far too often, it's not so much what you are that matters, but what they're saying about you.

He’s absolutely right. During the Clinton years there were major cuts in the military. The shop I work in was cut almost in half during those years. Gore was not being dishonest, he was LYING!!!

Fortuantely, the new media has helped change the equation to some degree. Let’s hope that degree is sufficient.

But, let’s not forget the divisions cut by Bush 41 under the “Peace Dividend”. I went to the closing of THREE of those divisions.

Our government, as a whole, failed to recognize emerging threats (Islam) that cannot be overmatched with technology. Boots on the ground in urban environments.

My husband was just reading our comments on this blog and was still an active duty officer until 1992. He reminded me that the Base Realignment Committee (BRAC) that initiated the downsizing plan for the military first met in the late 1980s, under Bush I. When the Gulf War was ongoing, we were inactivating units at a great pace while at the same time sending units to Saudi Arabia and Kuwait. It’s a two-sided folly.

Imagine Hunter in a general election with Hillary or Obama!! That should be enough to win him the GOP nomination.
