Your phoning, faxing and visiting made a real difference today (Immigration update)

From: Roy Beck, President, NumbersUSA Date: Friday 15JUN07 8 p.m. EDT

Your phoning, faxing and visiting made a real difference today ... Flippin' Fifteen softening

DEAR FRIENDS,

What an incredible job tens of thousands of you did today!

Thanks.

The feedback we are getting from you about your phone calls and the intelligence your NumbersUSA Capitol Hill Team is picking up suggests that Senate Republican Whip Trent Lott (R-Miss.) is not nearly as solid in passing the Bush/Kennedy amnesty tonight as he was last night.

A couple of the Republicans who we thought were likely YES votes on amnesty are telling constituents they are definite NO votes.

And we're starting to see signs that a couple of last week's Democratic YES votes are turning to NO.

Sen. Lott and Pres. Bush still have plenty of undecided Republicans who were NO last week from which to persuade to vote YES next week. But we do have a real chance to win this if the voters in each of these states keep up the pressure.

Later this weekend, I will give you a much more detailed look at which Senators are in which list. We have so much more work to do.

But I wanted you to enter the weekend feeling good about our slightly improved prospects and the fact that jointly you have had such an effect today and this last month.

The one way that I hope you will stay on the job this weekend is if you have any chance at all of being in a meeting or other public event where you would have a chance to ask or shout a question or make a statement to one of your Senators who might vote YES on the amnesty. I cannot tell you how influential that would be.

And please, please let us know if you are planning any kind of "visitation" to one of the local Senate offices next week so we can promote the visit to others in your area.

The following are the Senators whom we are feeling quite good about. You should find ways to thank them for being so sensitive to the needs of your state's workers and communities and urge them to just fight harder to stop S. 1348.

(* in front of Senators up for re-election in 2008.)

The KILL BILL Caucus

DEMOCRATS (8) * Baucus (MT) Byrd (WV) Dorgan (ND) * Landrieu (LA) McCaskill (MO) Tester (MT) * Pryor (AR) * Rockefeller (WV)

REPUBLICANS (19) * Alexander (TN) * Allard (CO) Bond (MO) Bunning (KY) Coburn (OK) Corker (TN) * Cornyn (TX) Crapo (ID) DeMint (SC) * Dole (NC) * Enzi (WY) Grassley (IA) * Inhofe (OK) * Roberts (KS) * Sessions (AL) Shelby (AL) * Smith, G. (OR) Thune (SD) Vitter (LA)

A special hero's garland should drape four Senators who have been absolutely courageous leaders in battling the power of the White House and of the Democratic Party Leadership -- and taking incredible abuse from most of the elite national news media.

THE HEROIC LEADERS Sessions (R-Ala.) Dorgan (D-N.D.) DeMint (R-S.C.) Vitter (R-La.)

If all 98 Senators vote, we will need 39 NO votes on cloture to kill this bill.

Congratulations to all of you in the states of these 27 Senators. But we have to get 12 more for sure. Right now, I see 13 others who look like really good possibilities if their constituents can just give them the right message in sufficient quantity. And there are another half-dozen or so who are not out of the question.

Enjoy your evening. Thanks for being such great citizens this week.

What’s the situation with respect to the two California Senators, Boxer and Feinstein? Any hope of persuading either of them to switch to the Nay side?

That number is one paid for by the Pro-Amnesty lobby that gets direct access to your Senator when the line is busy on the regular lines.

Why not take advantage of it and use it against them?

P.S. Jeff Sessions and Jim DeMint rock!

I see my Senator, Dole, is among those who will oppose. What about Burr (R NC). I know he voted against cloture and he has opposed immigration reform in the past. Is he leaning? One of your 13 likely to vote no?

Feinstein’s DC office has a recording saying to call back during the week. She must be resting on her throne right now and can’t be bothered with such mundane things as the nation’s security or her constituents opinion.

Feinstein is too busy being corrupt to worry about 30,000 phone calls.

Thanks for the updates and for providing names.

I agree we need to thank those who are standing against supporting ILLEGAL behavior. I’ve called the Offices of Sen. DeMint and Sessions. Sessions is awesome. I’m not from his state but I sent a contribution to his re-election campaign. Wish he was my Senator vs Martinez or Nelson....yuck.

This is not over yet. Bush refuses to give up this easily. It's his stubborn character. As I predicted he would try to resurrect it and call it something else. We have to keep our guard up. We need to keep the pressure up. We have no choice but to fight. The oligarchy wants cheap labor and a destruction of the middle class and the millionaire democrats want votes they can count on. A marriage made in HELL.

STAGE TWO is to go after the people who hire illegals. Start giving them fines and arresting them. Just catch ten or 100 of them on the nightly news. The magnet will dry up and most of the 12 million will go home by themselves.

As an addendum, we should anonymously call the IRS, people working "off the books" means taxes ain't being paid. Make anonymous fliers and hang them around the neighborhood, name names. It's time to embarrass these bustards, whether they give to the GOP or Rats, we don't need them.

CALL! CALL! CALL! CALL! AND KEEP CALLING TILL THE LINES FRY!

WRITE! WRITE! WRITE! WRITE! TILL YOU RUN OUT OF INK IN YOUR PEN!

Bombard the Democrats as well, especially the ones that ran on an anti illegal immigration plank and the ones in marginal districts who could be vulnerable. keep pounding on them. This is a bipartisan issue not a Conservative or Liberal issue BUT AN AMERICAN issue.

STOP AMNESTY NOW!! WE CAN DO IT!!

The best way to stop Shamnesty

Senator Alexander announced on the Steve Gill show on Fri. that he will vote yes on cloture. He derserves to have his phone lines lit up. I have already written him and told him this is the worst sort of political hypocrisy... a vote yes on cloture and no on the bill.

I've always rated Boxer the second dumbest member of the U.S. Senate. With Patricia Bin Murray solidly enshrined in first, it's a tough call and one I'd have to rethink in view of Boxers vote for the cloture motion.

Maybe she is beginning to think . . . her re-election as an elderly Jewish woman is assured only because there is a remote possibility that a Republican could be elected if the Latino vote doesn't come in for her.

But once shamnesty upgrades that remote possibility to NO POSSIBILITY, Boxer will be dumped for one of their own. Just maybe, she's figured that out. Feinstein evidently has not.

...a vote yes on cloture and no on the bill.

THis is how they think they will protect themselves - by voting no in the end. THey'll say, at re-electtion time, "I voted no".... but they know the amnesty will pass by voting yes on cloture.

MAKE SURE YOUR COMMUNICATIONS INDICATE THAT THEY CAN'T GET AWAY WITH THIS.

Tell them voting for cloture ends their political career forever, regardless of final vote.

That’s the problem with having a rino for a senator. He really wants the bill to pass but doesn’t have the ..um...er.... guts to vote for it. So he does this little dance of yes on cloture and no on the bill and he thinks he looks clean.

I have told his staff in no uncertain terms.... multiple times, that I am a single issure voter. This pissed me off royally as well, and tomorrow I will burn up another phone line.

Actually, I intend to ask for the senator’s home address. When they ask why I will tell them that he has some things I need, and since he is for the amnesty bill I am sure he will have no problem leaving the door unlocked so I can go and get them. Coming from a grandmother that might sound shocking.

Both Corker and Lamar are on the list.....ask them who is going to pay for the increased property taxes for the new schools, jail, teachers and cops, and the new prisons for the 6-7% of them that will end up in TN prisons we are going to need for the millions of ‘extended’ family members.

Here is what TN Eagle Forum sent out this morning:

According to yesterday's paper, Senators Alexander and Corker are supporting the 'Hutchinson' amendment. That amendment is not the answer. As you will see from the DeMint article, enforcing our present laws would go a long way to solving this difficult problem.

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Two Tennessee Republicans are co-sponsors of a compromise that could help keep an immigration reform bill alive.

Sens. Lamar Alexander and Bob Corker have co-sponsored a provision crafted by Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison, R-Texas, to toughen a requirement that unlawful immigrants seeking green cards return home to apply for permanent legal residency.

Something is very wrong this morning...

Where are all the phone calls?

I easily got through to Bill Nelson's office and spoke to a LIVE person...
..(this is so rare, usually I'm forwarded to a mailbox, which informs me it's FULL and says 'good-bye')....

Also, I easily got through to Mel Martinez office and spoke to a LIVE person.

They then forwarded me to the 'immigration expert'....which turned out to be a voicemail....but I left my opinion anyway!

Same here for Corker and Alexander...and I called DC as I’ve got tons of roll over minutes on my cell phone. Corker was just elected, but Lamar is up in ‘08, my message was clear I don’t want my property taxes going up because they were allowed to bring in their ‘extended’ families. And I wouldn’t be voting for Lamar in ‘08 if he votes to reward the illegals with amnesty.

Gail, I'm usually a polite person :)

But I JUST finished talking to a woman in Mel Martinez' Florida office...(having already called DC)

She was no summer intern..

...and I certainly did get MORE than a little angry, even though I started the call with my reasonable, calm voice.

I got more than a little angry when she started spouting the party line and essentially calling me a liar...(not directly, but indirectly)

She spounted a lot of untruths, but also said this was NOT a secret bill...(we know it was)...

..that the 'fence bill's appropriated money' was not available until March and that they are NOT holding the fence HOSTAGE to get the amnesty bill passed.

I asked WHY they cared more about the imput from LaRaza in those secret meetings, rather than the years of experience from the Border Patrol Agents....why didn't they ask their opinions and advice?

She said they did....I said NO, THEY DID NOT!

She said I was wrong....and I said I heard it from the agents themselves on C-span!

She told me I'm getting wrong advice...

I told her Martinez & ilk are criminally accountable if they allow ILLEGALS into our country and clasify them as US citizens.

I told her I am a constituent of Mel....and (forgive me) I voted for him....that I once trusted our President.....that I have been a Florida resident for over 30 years, and a lifelong Republican.....

I also told her that WE GET IT.

I told her across the board, from every level....folks who follow politics and folks who don't.....WE GET IT.

WE KNOW WHAT THIS BILL MEANS TO OUR SOVEREIGNTY!!!

What these 12 million illegals mean to our society is akin to a domestic 12 million American 18 year olds whereby most of these individuals can neither speak nor write in English, and the majority of whom are high school dropouts.

Wouldn’t you think our lawmakers would be “up in arms” about this? I’d bet so much so that it would be characterized as a national crisis and a failure in our education system.
